ABSTRACT

Despite of the progress in the field of nursing achieved in the last twenty years, yet the problem of care of tracheostomy remains a deficient field in the care of these patients resulting in the occurrence of so many avoidable morbidities and mortalities, if proper nursing care is applied. Accordingly an inservice training program is needed for the nurses to be able to alleviate, minimize, and manage these serious problems, especially that proper nursing care is mandatory in such procedure to minimize complications. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop, implement and evaluationing after the implementation of the program. Results revealed that there were a strong positive correlation between pre- post knowledge scores, a marked increase in mean scores as obtained by observational checklist for the three time observation, as well as a strong positive correlation between post knowledge mean scores and the performance mean scores. Awareness of these findings illustrate the importance of creation of comprehensive and applicable staff development programs

ABSTRACT

The main objective of this study is to assess nurses job satisfaction based on the value and availability of certain work factors. Study subjects were 373 staff nurses selected from 6 different hospitals. Tools of data collection were questionnaire and rating scale. Findings of the study revealed an evidence of overall low level of job satisfaction. The rural areas were however better than the urban in terms of current level of job satisfaction among respondents. Job redesign is suggested as a mean for upgrading job satisfaction level in the studied hospitals

ABSTRACT

Health education is crucial in order to prevent the spread of infection with human immunodeficiency virus [VIV] the cause of acquired immune deficiency syndrome [AIDS]. The present study was conducted in the two outpatient clinics at Ain-Shams General and Ain-Shams Specialized Hospitals. Assessment of knowledge and attitudes of utilizer groups in each clinic including patients, their concerned relatives and friends was done for two main purposes. First; to find out the gap in knowledge ought to be covered in a health education program. Second; to determine appropriate resource to be utilized in disseminating such education. According to the findings of the study, participants were in need for more accurate knowledge about manifestation of AIDS as well as its mode of infection. They also need to identify the risky groups such as drug addicts and hemophiliac patients

ABSTRACT

The type an complex nature of health problems aroused in intensive care units necessitates an outstanding performance of nurses working therein. The present study was conducted in the three intensive care units at Ain Shams University Hospital. The sample included 39 different categories of nurses in charge of providing direct care to patients in these units. The main objective of the study was to discuss changes in performance after communicating to the nurses in the sample results of their performance appraisal through interviewing. A check list was developed for the purpose of data collection about murses performance. The four components of the nursing process considered in the check list development include: assessment planning, implementation and evaluation. According to findings of the study nurses performance was improved in the areas of assessment and implementation after appraisal interview
