ABSTRACT

The present study was carried out on 60 balady sheep of 3-5 years old belonged to several private farms located in Giza province. By clinical and laboratory diagnostic methods, 45 animals were proved to be naturally infested with Fasciola gigantica [infested group], the other 15 were healthy and served as the control group. Some biochemical and haematological parameters were evaluated. The results revealed significant hypoproteinaemia associated with significant hypoalbuminaemia and non significant hyperglobulinaemia were recorded in the infested group. Significant decrease in serum glucose and total cholesterol accompanied with significant increase in serum total bilirubin and both the direct and indirect bilirubin in naturally infested sheep. The enzymatic activities of the infested group showed significant elevation in serum AST, ALT and ALP with non significant alteration in serum level of LDH. The haemogram of the infested sheep showed significant deceased level of RBCs count, PCV and Hb content accompanied with leukocytosis

ABSTRACT

Toxoplasma gondii was inoculated intraperitoneally into one hundred mice divided into 4 equal groups. Those were given 100,000 50,000, 25,000 and 12,500 trophozoites. Mice given 100,000 trophozoites died after 2-3 days of infection. The other groups, showed highly significant drops in erythrocyte count, haemoglobin concentration and packed cell volumes progressively, until these reached their lowest values on the last 5-7 days post infection. The mean corpuscule volumes, the mean corpuscule haemoglobins and the mean corpuscule haemoglobin concentrations were normal. Total leucocyte counts dropped progressively until they reached their lowest values on the last day. The percentage of neutrophils were highly increased, while the percentages of lymphocytes were decreased and reached their lowest values on the last day. Serum alanine aminotransferase showed a highly significant increase. Total proteins significantly decreased; while albumin as well as the albumin-globulin ratio were decreased to a highly significant extent. Both creatinine and urea were greatly increased

ABSTRACT

A new monophasic medium for the E. histolytica cultivation was described and compared with other two known media. It was seen that the new medium can be used for the purpose of the drug screening

ABSTRACT

Experimental uretheral obstruction was done on 30 male goats. Serum biochemical analysis declared that there was an increase in the blood urea nitrogen ion or ruptured bladder. These values regained their normality within a week after operation. Serum sodium and chloride showed slight increase during uretheral obstruction and slight decrease after ruptured bladder. Serum calcium and magnesium showed no significant changes all over the period of the experiment
