ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: In recent years, dietary fat supplementation has become a common practice and fat supplemented diets have had variable effects on animal performance and carcass characteristics.


OBJECTIVES: This study was conducted to determine the effect of increasing the levels of sesame oil on performance, rumen parameters and plasma lipid profile in finishing Chal lambs.


METHODS: Eighteen male lambs were fed with control [C; without sesame oil] and the diets contained low level [LSO; 2.5%] and high level [HSO; 5%] of sesame oil.


RESULTS: The addition of fat had no effect on dry matter intake [DMI], average daily gain [ADG], feed conversion ratio [FCR] and carcass weight. Treatments with sesame oil had no effect on rumen ammonia concentration and total protozoal count. Ruminal pH was numerically smaller [p=0.14] for control compared to lambs fed diets containing 2.5 and 5% sesame oil. Treatments had no effect on total VFA, acetate, butyrate, valerate and isovalerate concentrations. The propionate concentration decreased [p=0.04] by supplementation of sesame oil compared with the control. Total cholesterol [TC] and HDL increased and the tendency for VLDL and triglyceride [p=0.13] to increase was observed by treatment groups when compared with the control. Glucose concentration and LDL were not affected by treatment.


CONCLUSIONS: Sesame oil had no effect on the performance and carcass weight of lambs but there was decrease in blood cholesterol concentration.

ABSTRACT

Hepatitis E virus is one of the most common causes of acute infection in adults. Pregnant and transplant patients are more in risk of REV infection. Fecal-oral is the main route of REV transmission but recently transmission by blood transfusion has been observed. This study was amied to determme tbe prevalence of HEV -Ab in hemodialysis patients in Gorgan, Iran. In this cross-sectional descriptive study, we investigated I 150 hemodialysis patients of Panje Azar hospital in Gorgan. These patients were I evaluated for the presence of HEV total Ab by ELISA method. Of 150, 6 patients [4%] are positive for HEV-Ab. There has been no I significant relation between anti HEV Ab and variables such as age, gender, ethnicity, duration and number of hemodialysis in a week and [P>0.05]. This study, which is the first report from this area, show that the I lower prevalence of anti HEV Ab in hemodialysis patients in comparison with | pregnant and childbearing age women

ABSTRACT

Fully quantitative cytological techniques for the analysis of hematopoietic chimerism are very limited and are largely restricted to sex - chromosome detection after sex - mismatched bone marrow transplants [BMTs]. The aim of the present investigation was to evaluate the application of FISH technique in peripheral blood interphase nuclei of three patients who had received sex - mismatched bone marrow transplants. The FISH technique shows 40% to 85% [average 61%] chimerism in these patients. All the three studied patients having undergone bone marrow transplants have achieved complete remission now. Evaluation of mixed chimerism has potential applications in controlling self-reactions avoiding rejection of the transplant
