ABSTRACT

Determination of Residues of Malathion [M] and its metabolic fractions Malaoxon [MO], 0, O-dimethyl-phosphoro dithionate [DPDT], Malathion mono acid [MCA], Dicarboxylic acid [DCA] and desmethylmalathion [DMM], in serum, urine and tissues of lactating goats received a daily dose [10mg-1 kg] body weight of [M] for 5 successive days was investigated. Daily samples of blood and urine were collected during the period of administration as well as 7 and 14 days after withholding of [M]. Tissue samples were taken from slaughtered goats at 7 and 14 days after cessation of the insecticide. Gas chromatographic technique [GC] was adopted for determination of [M] and its metabolites. [M] was not detected in any serum samples collected during administration and/or after cessation of insecticide, while it was excreted unchanged in urine and milk till one week after cessation of treatment with neurotoxic concentration over 20 ng/ml. The active metabolites [MO] and [DPDT] were not detected in any milk samples collected during application or after stoppage of [M] administration, while both metabolites were detected in serum and urine with neurotoxic concentrations during period of administration and still detected in serum for 7 days [400 ng/ml] and DPDT for 14 days [241 ng/ml] after stopping of [M] administration. The major excretory detoxified metabolites was found in milk on the days 7 and 14 after cessation of Malathion. Tissue residue-analysis

ABSTRACT

The effect of rifampicin " as enzyme-inducing agent " at intraperitoneal dose [25 mg/kg body wt.] for 3 successive months on plasma testosterone level and some seminal parameters were studied in adult male rats. Plasma testosterone concentration was significantly increased at the end of the 1[st] 2[nd] and 3[rd] month of rifampicin administration. An improvement in sperm cell concentration and sperm motility% were also recorded. The results of the present study indicate that rifampicin "as enzyme-inducing agent" may have an improvemental effect on some male fertility parameters which might be due to induction of testosterone biosynthesis and/or an increase in sex hormone binding globulin [SHBG] level

ABSTRACT

The aims of this work are to evaluate the shear bond strength and microleakage of sealant placed over universal bond material, and to assess the effect of salivary contamination on the bond strength and microleakage of sealant only, and sealant with universal bond. The results showed that, the use of Prisma bond beneath the sealant improved the bond strength, while salivary contamination reduced it significantly. Similarly, there was a tendency towards reduced leakage by using Prisma universal bond, however, there was no statistically significant difference, except in between group II [sealant + bond] and group III [sealant with salivary contamination]

ABSTRACT

This study assessed the oral health problems of 60 leukemic children divided into 3 equal groups, and suggested an oral health regimen for each group. The results showed that the control group who have not received oral hygiene instruction throughout a course of therapy over one year, had the highest incidence of oral problems, while the fresh cases who instituted the preventive procedures from the start had fewer oral complications than the second group, which started the preventive regimen after a period of more than one month from the institution of cancer chemotherapy. Although the nursing staff has the initial responsibility for the oral care of the ill child, the provision of adequate oral care which should be organized and planned by the dentist together with the treating hospital team, would do much help to alleviate the problem

ABSTRACT

In laboratory experiments under three moisture levels [50, 200 and 400% whc] with sandy, sandy loam and clay loam soils, the ammonification and subsequent nitrification of 200 ppm biuret-N was studied. Ammonification was more rapid in heavy than in light textured soils. Mineralization percentages of biuret-N were 25, 27 and 30.2 at 400% whc, in sandy, sandy loam and clay loam soil, respectively, and most mineralized-N was in the form of NH4 +. The corresponding figures at 50% whc were 15, 16 and 21% and most nitrogen was in the NO3 form. NO-2-N accumulated in considerable amount only at 200% whc, and persisted longer in soils which reflect the relative sensitivity of Nitrobacter to anaerobic conditions. Whc, of 400%, inhibited both Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter and no NO-2 or NO-3 was detected in the soils. Biuret, by itself, at 200 ppm-N had no effect on nitrifying bacteria
