ABSTRACT

Musli Safed [Chlorophytum arundinaceum Baker] powder in triturated form has been evaluated for its diuretic activity at dose levels of 1 g and 3 g/kg in albino rats. The diuretic effect of the drug has been compared with standard diuretic agent frusemide [Lasix]. It was found that Musli Safed possesses the efficacy to bring about significant increase in urine output at the dose level of 3 g/kg. Continuous treatment of the animals with Musli Safed for a week resulted in significant increase in the urinary concentrations of Na[+], K[+] and Cl[-] at the close of 3 g/kg. These findings indicate that Musli Safed is a good diuretic agent

ABSTRACT

We performed a clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intralesional glucantime in cutaneous leishmaniasis. Thirteen patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis were treated with intralesional glucantime using a 23 gauge needle. Each lesion was infiltrated with 1-2 ml of solution without local anaesthesia. Total number of injections was from 3 to 5, each one week apart. Resolution of the lesions was obtained in most of the patients [9 out of 13]. The location and duration of the lesion did affect the outcome of treatment. The treatment was generally well tolerated. Intralesional treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis is safe, effective and cheap, and excellent cosmetics results may be achieved

ABSTRACT

We conducted a study on 27patients [17 males, 10 females] to evaluate the efficacy of oral Terbinafine on a short term basis. All the patients had clinical and mycologically proven tinea cruris/corporis. Each patient was given 250 mg Terbinafine [Lamisil] after meals, once daily for one week. Patients were followed up for 6 weeks after completion of treatment. Patients were assessed clinically and mycologically at the end of treatment and the end of the follow up period. The signs and symptoms of the disease had almost disappeared at the end of the follow up period. Mycological investigations were negative in all patients at this time, except for one. As reported in other studies, our results show that one week oral therapy with 250 mg/day of Terbinafine is effective and cheap for the treatment of tinea corporis/cruris
