ABSTRACT

Objective To improve the understanding of cavernous lymphatic malformation (CLM) of the vulva. Methods The clinical manifestations, histopathological and immunohistochemical features of a case of CLM involving bilateral labia minora were analyzed, and relevant literatures were reviewed. Results A 17-year-old unmarried female patient presented with gradually enlarged subcutaneous masses on the bilateral labia minora for 2 years.Physical examination showed that soft kidney-shaped subcutaneous masses were observed on the bilateral labia minora. After surgical resection,a yellow-white solid cut surface was observed, and there were scattered rice-sized cyst cavitics filled with clear colorless liquid.Histopathologically,a large number of dilated lymphatic vessels with different sizes of lumens were scatteredly distributed in the dermis. The lumens were lined by a single layer of flattened endothelial cells, and there were thick fibrous septa between the lumens.Endothelial cells in the lymphatic vessels were stained positive for D2-40 and CD31,but negative for CD34.Interstitial fibroblasts were stained positive for progesterone receptors, but negative for estrogen receptors. Finally, the patient was diagnosed with CLM of bilateral labia minora. After surgical resection of the masses on the bilateral labia minora,no relapse was observed during the follow-up of 6 months. Conclusion Histopathological and immunohistochemical features facilitate the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of CLM.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the effects of He-Ne laser irradiation on the pH value of gastric juice, the ultrastructure of gastric parietal cells and the content of nitric oxide ( NO ) in chronic atrophic gastritis ( CAG ) . Methods Sixty healthy male Wistar rats were randomly divided into a normal control group, a model group, a drug group, an acupuncture group and a laser acupoint group, each of 12. A CAG model was successfully intro-duced to all except those in the normal control group through the administration of sodium salicylate and alcohol, combined with fasting and water deprivation, running fatigue and other interventions. The rats of the drug, acupunc-ture and laser acupuncture groups were given medications, acupuncture at Zusanli acupoint and laser irradiation at Zusanli acupoint accordingly. After 14 days of treatment, all of the rats were executed and diluted gastric juice and gastric tissues were collected. NO content in serum was determined using a nitrate enzyme reduction method, the pH value of gastric juice was measured, and the ultrastructure of the gastric mucosa was observed using a transmis-sion electron microscope. Results The average pH of the gastric juice and the average serum NO content were both significantly higher in the model group than in the normal control group. In the model group the membrane structure of the parietal cells was absent or partly dissolved and the mitochondria were swollen. Drugs, acupuncture and laser irradiating at the Zusanli acupoint all corresponded with reduced pH and NO content, but the most signifi-cant improvements were observed in the laser acupuncture group. In the laser acupuncture group the membrane structure of parietal cells was complete, and the cytoplasmic organelles had nearly returned to normal. Conclusions Laser irradiation can promote recovery from CAG, increasing the secretion of gastric acid and de-creasing the serum level of NO. Both have a good curative effect for CAG. Laser irradiation deserves further clinical research and promotion.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the inhibitory effect of photocatalytic titanium dioxide (TiO2)on the growth of a human epidermal squamous cell carcinoma cell line A431 and its mechanism. Methods Cultured A431 cells were classified into various groups to remain untreated (blank control group),be treated with different concentrations (100,200,300,400,500,600 mg/L) of TiO2 nanoparticles alone or in combination with ultraviolet (UV,main wavelength 253.7 nm,power 30 W,distance 30 cm,exposure duration 15 min) irradiation. After additional culture for different durations, methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay was performed to evaluate cell growth, annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate/propidium iodide (PI) double staining to observe cell apoptosis, and Rho123 staining to determine mitochondrial transmembrane potential.Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS 13.0 software.Analysis of variance (AOV),t test and Student-Newman-Keuls (SNK) test were performed to assess the differences in these parameters between these groups. Results The growth of A431 cells was inhibited by pretreatment with TiO2 nanoparticles followed by UV irradiation, and the inhibitory effect was enhanced as the dose of TiO2 nanoparticles increased. As AOV and SNK test showed, there were significant differences in the growth inhibition rate among A431 cells treated with different concentrations of TiO2 nanoparticles at the three time points (24,48 and 72 hours) after UV irradiation (n =6,F =21.54,77.56,20.27,respectively,all P < 0.05).No statistical inhibition was observed in the growth of A431 cells treated with TiO2 nanoparticles alone compared with untreated A431 cells (all P > 0.05).Photocatalytic TiO2 nanoparticles also induced the apoptosis but decreased the mitochondrial transmembrane potential in A431 cells. In detail, the apoptosis rate was 8.86% ± 0.22%,11.72% ± 0.29% and 31.24% ± 0.78% in A431 cells treated with TiO2nanoparticles of 100,200,400 mg/L followed by UV irradiation, respectively, compared to 2.69% ± 0.28% in the blank control group (n =3,F =256.61,P < 0.05).Decreased mitochondrial transmembrane potential (expressed as total fluorescence intensity) was observed in A431 cells treated with TiO2 nanoparticles of 100,200,400 mg/L followed by UV irradiation compared with blank control group (758.48 ± 15.42,676.60 ± 14.35,557.71 ± 13.12vs.2943.65 ± 70.26,F =208.57,P < 0.05,n =3),and SNK test also revealed statistical differences between these groups. Conclusions TiO2 nanoparticles combined with UV can inhibit the growth of but induce the apoptosis in A431 cells, which may be associated with the reduction in mitochondrial transmembrane potential in A431 cells, while TiO2 nanoparticles alone show no inhibitory effect on the growth of A431 cells.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the clinical value of total parenteral nutrition for patients with tetanus. Methods:TPN was used in 13 tetanus patients. The nutrition parameters were recorded in these patients and compared with those in 25 tetanus patients without TPN. Results:Compared with the control, body weight, albumin, Hb, peripheral lymphocyte count in TPN group were higher and the complication and mortality were less. Conclusions:Total parenteral nutrition can improve nutrition parameters and prognosis of tetanus patients.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To establish the method of determining the blood concentration of pioglitazone hydrochloride. METHODS:Chromatographic column was based on Hypersil C l8 (150mm?4.6mm,5?m),the mobile phase consisted of ace-tonitrile-buffer phosphate(40∶60,V/V)with a flow rate at l.0ml/min,the detecting wavelength was229nm.The blood sample was extracted with dichlormethane.RESULTS:The linear concentration range was25~4000ng/ml(r=0.9998,n=8).The lowest detecting concentration was25ng/ml.The extracting recovery rate of high, medium and low concentrations were(73.33?1.22)%,(76.92?6.57)%and(84.50?3.40)%respectively,the method recovery which were(103.26?3.31)%,(97.31?9.07)%and(99.61?6.48)%respectively.The intra-day RSD
