ABSTRACT

Objective: To study the oropharyngeal sensory function by Current Perception Threshold(CPT) detection, to explore the detection method of oropharyngeal sensory function in normal population, and to analyze the possible influencing factors. Methods: Fifty-eight normal subjects were included prospectively in this study. Age, gender, body mass index (BMI) were collected. The age of the subjects ranged from 20 to 76 (43.27±13.52) years old. There were 34 females with 17 in childbearing period and 17 in menopause; and 24 males were included. In all the cases, 6 cases were in low BMI, 39 cases were in normal BMI, 10 cases were overweight and 3 cases were suffering from obesity. The CPT system of Neurometer was used to stimulate bilateral palatoglossal arch and tongue base. The current used was 2000 Hz, 250 Hz and 5 Hz respectively. The function of type Aβ, Aδ and C sensory nerve fibers were tested and the CPT values were recorded. The values were inversely proportional to pharyngeal sensation function. To evaluate the oropharyngeal sensory function of the subjects, the CPT values of each frequency at each testing point were compared. SPSS 25.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results: The CPT value of palatoglossal arch was significantly lower than that of tongue base (t=-2.58,-2.65,-2.54,-2.47,-2.37,-2.77,P<0.05), 2 000 Hz>250 Hz>5 Hz, and there was no significant difference between left and right sides(t=-0.03,-0.51,-0.49,0.06,-0.16,0.13,P>0.05). The CPT value of male was slightly higher than that of female (t=0.92,1.55,0.27,0.78,1.44,1.26,0.35,0.77,1.27,0.24,0.78,0.96,P>0.05). The CPT values of women in childbearing period were significantly less than those in menopausal women (t=-3.90,-3.64,-2.14,-4.20,-4.28,-4.28,-3.52,-4.46,-3.41,-3.63,-4.66,-2.86,P<0.05). The CPT value increased with age, and the values of all frequency of 20 to 30 years old group was significantly lower than those of subjects over 40 years old at each point (The t values of bilateral palatoglossal arch at 2 000 Hz were -5.57,-6.22,-10.18,-11.00;the t values of bilateral palatoglossal arch at 250 Hz were -6.39,-8.79,-6.39,-15.61;the t values of bilateral palatoglossal arch at 5 Hz were -7.09, -5.57, -9.26, -15.23;the t values of tongue base at 2 000 Hz were -3.11,-3.88,-7.60,-8.55;the t values of tongue base at 250 Hz were -6.31,-10.59,-8.52,-10.60;the t values of tongue baseat 5 Hz were -6.69,-5.09,-8.70,-7.07,P<0.05).The values at all frequencies and testing points of 30-40 years old group were significantly lower than those of all subjects over 60 years old (The t values of bilateral palatoglossal arch at 2 000 Hz were -10.91,-12.42;the t values of bilateral palatoglossal arch at 250 Hz were -6.25,-10.87;the t values of bilateral palatoglossal arch at 5 Hz were -5.53,-11.01;the t values of tongue base at 2 000 Hz were -8.62,-10.12;the t values of tongue base at 250 Hz were -6.89,-7.82;the t values of tongue base at 5 Hz were -6.13,-6.48,P<0.05). Conclusions: CPT can be used to evaluate oropharyngeal sensory function. The sensitivity of tongue base is lower than that of palatoglossal arch, there is no significant difference in oropharyngeal sensory function between male and female, between left and right sides. There are many factors influencing oropharyngeal sensory function. Age, hormone level changes may affect the sensitivity of oropharyngeal sensory function.

ABSTRACT

@#【Objective】To assess the difference in volume load between different blood pressure control levels in outpatients with hypertension. To investigate the effect of clinical factors on volume load in outpatients with hypertension. To analyze the clinical baseline characteristics and use of antihypertensive drugs in outpatients with hypertension. 【Methods】 A total of 514 outpatients with hypertension were included from July to November 2017. Clinical indicators including gender, age, height, weight, years of hypertension, blood pressure levels, treatment options for hypertension and comorbidities of these patients were recorded. The body volume load was evaluated by detecting the ratio of extracellular fluid(ECW)to total body water(TBW)using a Bioimpedance Analyzer. Whole body ECW/TBW≥0.39 was defined as high volume load. The effects of clinical factors on the volume load of hypertensive patients and whether there was a difference in volume load between different antihypertensive therapy were analyzed. 【Results】The blood pressure compliance rate of outpatients with hypertension was 15.37% ,which was still very low. Male patients had lower blood pressure compliance rate than female patients. Blood pressure was more difficult to control in patients with older age ,higher body mass index (BMI),higher waist-to-hip ratio(WHR)or longer duration of hypertension. The higher the blood pressure grading, the higher the proportion of combination medication. Diuretics were still the most widely used antihypertensive drugs. Age ,gender and different hypertension grades were the main factors affecting the volume load of hypertensive patients. Volume load was higher in female, older or higher systolic blood pressure(SBP)patients. Among them, age was the most important factor affecting the volume load of hypertensive patients.【Conclusion】The blood pressure compliance rate of outpatients with hypertension was still low. Effectively reducing the volume load was one of the important means to control blood pressure, which was more important in female, older or higher SBP patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the effect of Taiji Quan on the sleep quality of patients with chronic insomnia disorder (CID) and its mechanism. Methods:From January, 2015 to December, 2017, 31 patients with CID were enrolled in the sleep disorder clinic. Before and 24 weeks after Taiji Quan exercise, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to assess their sleep quality, the serum levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, TNF-β, soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor (sTNF-R)1 and sTNF-R2 were detected with protein chip, and the correlation between the total score of PSQI and the serum levels of TNF-α, TNF-β, sTNF-R1 and sTNF-R2 were analyzed after exercise. Results:After Taiji Quan exercise, the scores of PSQI factors (subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep duration, habitual sleep efficiency, sleep disturbances, daytime dysfunction) and the total score of PSQI decreased (t > 4.080, P < 0.05). The serum levels of TNF-α and TNF-β decreased (t > 13.580, P < 0.01), however, the serum levels of sTNF-R1 and sTNF-R2 significantly increased (t > 160.189, P < 0.001). The serum levels of TNF-α and TNF-β were positively correlated with the total score of PSQI (r > 0.638, P < 0.001), while the serum levels of sTNF-R1 and sTNF-R2 were negatively correlated with the total score of PSQI (r > 0.532, P<0.001). Conclusion:Taiji Quan exercise could help to improve the sleep quality of patients with CID. The mechanism may be related to the decrease of the serum levels of TNF-α and TNF-β, and the increase of the serum levels of sTNF-R1 and sTNF-R2.

ABSTRACT

[Objective]To explore the correlations between different indices of lipoprotein cholesterol and apolipopro-tein of coronary heart disease(CHD)patients, especially that between low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)and high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)and that between apolipoprotein A1(apoA1)and apolipoprotein B100 (apoB100),as well as the correlations between these indices, indices ratios and the severity of coronary artery lesion.[Methods]301 coronary heart disease patients hospitalized to accept percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University during 2013-2014 were recruited in the study. Fasting serum lipid indices including triglycerides(TG),total cholesterol(TC),LDL-C,HDL-C,apoA1 and apoB100 were examined before surgery.Gensini score was calculated to evaluate the severity of coronary artery lesion. 153 patients whose Gensini score was less than 50 were assigned to Group A,while 148 patients with Gensini score greater than or equal 50 were distributed to Group B.[Results]Positive correlations were found between LDL-C and HDL-C(r=0.161,P=0.005), apoA1 and apoB100(r=0.358,P<0.001),apoB100 and LDL-C(r=0.487,P<0.001),apoA1 and LDL-C(r=0.178, P=0.002)by linear correlation analysis. No significant correlation was found between apoB100 and HDL-C. None of LDL-C,HDL-C,TC was correlated with Gensini score. However,LDL-C/HDL-C ratio was positively correlated with Gensini score(r=0.148,P=0.01). The results showed no significant correlations between apoB100,apoB100/apo A1 ratio and Gensini score but negative correlation between apoA1 and Gensini score(r=-0.129,P=0.025). The positive correlation between HDL-C/LDL-C ratio and Gensini score was still valid after multi-factors adjustment (β=5.071,P=0.018).[Conclusion]Of patients with coronary heart disease, there exist some correlations between LDL-C and HDL-C,apoA1 and apoB100,while the correlation between LDL-C and HDL-C is relatively weak. The LDL-C/HDL-C ratio, weakly positively correlated with the severity of coronary artery lesion,is a risk factor of coronary artery lesion, while the level of apoA1,negatively correlated with the severity of coronary artery lesion, could play a protective role.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the technique and clinical efficacy of retroperitoneoscopic nephrectomy (RN) at different anatomical plane for benign non-functioning kidneys. Method We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of 84 patients who underwent RN for benign non-functioning kidneys from February 2010 to November 2016. Various anatomical plane was performed for differing etiology, image and plane, included radical nephrectomy (A group, n = 35), simple nephrectomy (B group, n = 27) and subcapsular nephrectomy (C group, n = 22). Clinical data and preoperative information was collected and analyzed. Result Nephrectomy was performed successfully in 84 patients. There are significantly longer mean operative time and more estimated blood loss in the C group than that in A group and B group (P < 0.05), however, postoperative hospital stay, complications and recovery time were significantly less in the three groups. There was longer mean operative time and more estimated blood in specific and nonspecific infection group compared with the other two groups (P < 0.05). Conclusion Retroperitoneoscopic nephrectomy, although challenging, is safe, reliable, and successful for treatment of benign non-functioning kidneys.Anatomical plane of avascular zone should be offered as the choice of modality to all patients with benign non-functioning kidney.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of dimethyltin chloride( DMT) on the activity of renal H~+K~+-ATPase( HKA)and Na~+K~+-ATPase( NKA) in SD rats. METHODS: i) In vitro experiment. Five specific pathogen free( SPF) healthy female SD rats were used. The kidney homogenates made with 0. 90% sodium chloride solution was added with DMT( mass concentration,1. 0 g/L) to make final concentrations of 0,1,25,125 and 625 mg/L respectively, then the HKA and NKA activities were detected by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay( ELISA). ii) In vivo experiment. Forty SPF healthy SD rats were divided into control group and exposure group, with 20 rats( 10 males and 10 females) in each group. The exposure group was given one-time intraperitoneal injection with DMT( 16. 000 mg / kg body weight),while the control group was given one-time intraperitoneal injection with same volume of 0. 90% sodium chloride solution. The rats were executed 1 and 24 hours after exposure. The kidney tissue was extracted to make kidney homogenates for determination of HKA and NKA activity by microplate reader. The blood from abdominal aorta was collected to measure the levels of serum K~+,Na~+and Cl-. RESULTS: i) In vitro experiment. The HKA activity was inhibited by DMT,and the effect of inhibition increased with the increase of DMT exposure dose( P < 0. 01),showing a dose-effect relationship. The DMT had no effect on NKA activity( P > 0. 05). ii) In vivo experiment. The body weight of rats at 24 hours time point in exposed group was lower than that in control group( P < 0. 01). The HKA activity of the kidney tissue in rats in exposed group was lower than that of control group( P < 0. 01). The NKA activity in kidney tissue of rats and the level serum K~+,Na~+and Cl-did not show statistical difference in main and interactive effects concerning treatment and exposure time( P > 0. 05). CONCLUSION: DMT could inhibit the HKA activity in kidney homogenates, but had no obvious effect on NKA activity.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>Persistent gastro-esophageal reflux (GER) due to various pathological factors often results in overt clinical symptoms and signs, which is termed as gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). Affected children usually present with failure to thrive, recurrent pneumonia or apnea. Many neurologically impaired children have symptoms related to GERD. Although laparoscopic fundoplication has been established to be an effective treatment modality for children with GERD, data on its role and long-term efficacy for neurologically impaired patients remain sparse. The aim of this study was to review the results of such patients who underwent laparoscopic fundoplication.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A retrospective review was performed from 1998 to 2009. All children with neurological impairment who had laparoscopic fundoplication were included.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Fifty-nine GERD patients (male = 32, female = 27; mean age 6 years) were identified. All subjects showed symptoms of frequent emesis; 32 of them had history of hematemesis (54.2%); 54 had feeding difficulty; 35 (59.3%) had associated respiratory symptoms, including recurrent pneumonia. Gastrostomy was performed concurrently in 39 cases. There was no conversion to open procedure nor was there intra-operative complications and operative mortality. Emesis or hematemesis was controlled adequately in all. However, respiratory symptoms were not controlled in 10 patients (16.9%), and five of them required further respiratory assistance including nasal airway tube and tracheostomy. Clinical recurrence of GERD was not observed in any subject. Twelve patients died during follow-up (range from 3 months to 9 years) due to severe respiratory complications, cardiac arrest, and brain tumor.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Laparoscopic fundoplication is an excellent procedure for controlling clinically significant symptoms in neurological impaired patients with GERD. Further studies are required to assess the improvement of the quality of life in such patients.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effects of atorvastatin on C-reactive protein (CRP) induced Toll-Like receptor 4 (TLR4)expression on CD14+ monocyte, and the production of proinflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFalpha), interleukin-6 (IL-6), matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP-9), and to study the anti-inflammatory mechanisms of statins.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The monocytes were isolated from blood of healthy volunteers by the Ficoll density gradient and stimulated by CRP with different doses (5, 25, 50, 100 microg/ml) and different exposure time (6, 12, 24, 48 h). Cells were also incubated with atorvastatin of different doses (1.0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0 micromol/L) in the presence of CRP 50 microg/ml. The protein expression of TLR4 was measured by flow cytometry, mRNA expression of TLR4 and of myeloid differentiation protein (MD2)was detected by quantitative PCR. TNFalpha, IL-6, MMP-9 concentrations in supernatants of cultured medium were measured by ELISA.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>(1) Compared with the un-stimulated control group, enhanced TLR4 protein expression was already detected at a concentration of 5 microg/ml of CRP and increased in a dose-dependent manner (32.22 +/- 2.80)%, (49.94 +/- 5.58)%, (74.82 +/- 3.24)% and (90.82 +/-2.88)% at 5, 25, 50 and 100 microg/ml CRP. (2) TLR4 protein expression on 50 microg/ml CRP stimulated cells also increased in a time-dependent manner (29.80 +/- 2.70)%, (47.44 +/- 4.41)%, (81.71 +/- 2.92)% and (50.57 +/- 3.34)% after 6 h, 12 h, 24 h, 48 h. (3) When monocytes were incubated with CRP 50 microg/ml and atorvastatin (1.0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0 micromol/L), protein expression [(68.17 +/- 1.71)%, (52.43 +/- 1.38)%, (27.72 +/- 4.55)%, (17.46 +/- 3.20)%, (9.99 +/- 2.81)%] and mRNA expression (82.72%, 67.34%, 48.16%, 30.88%, 13.85%) of TLR4 as well as mRNA expression of MD2 (81.78%, 71.04%, 47.85%, 27.06%, 18.30%) were reduced in a dose-dependent manner. (4) Level of TNFalpha, IL-6 and MMP-9 in supernatants was significantly reduced by atorvastatin (2.5 micromol/L) compared with control group (P < 0.01). When monocyte incubated with CRP 50 microg/ml and atorvastatin 10.0 micromol/L, the level of TNFalpha, IL-6, MMP-9 decreased to (25.8 +/- 2.5) microg/ml, (128.2 +/- 14.7) pg/ml, (65.2 +/- 12.3) ng/ml, respectively.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>CRP increased the protein expression of TLR4 on CD14+ monocyte in a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner. Atorvastatin can inhibit the signal transduction of TLR4 and reduce proinflammatory cytokines release induced by CRP on CD14 monocyte, and this might be one of the anti-inflammatory mechanisms of atorvastatin.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To compare the effects of greenlight photoselective vaporization prostatectomy (PVP) and thulium laser vaporesection of the prostate (TmLRP) in the treatment of aged high-risk BPH patients with the prostate weighing > 80 g.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>We included in this study 118 high-risk BPH patients aged 62-96 (mean 76) years with the prostate heavier than 80 g, 82 treated by PVP and the other 36 by TmLRP. Then we compared the operation time, intraoperative bleeding, complications, short-term effectiveness, and surgical cost between the two groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>All the patients tided over the perioperative period without blood transfusion and serious complications. The mean operation time, postoperative bladder irrigation time and surgical cost were significantly less in the TmLRP than in the PVP group (P < 0.05). Both the procedures remarkably improved the international prostatic symptom score (IPSS), quality of life (QOL), post void residual urine (PVR) and Qmax of the patients (P < 0.05), but with no significant differences between the two groups (P > 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Both PVP and TmLRP are effective and safe for the treatment of aged high-risk BPH patients with the prostate heavier than 80 g, but the latter is superior for its shorter operation time and lower surgical cost.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the association between hemoglobin scavenger receptor (CD163) expression levels on monocytic surfaces and coronary atherosclerotic severity in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) as well as the roles of CD163 in inflammation and lipidperoxidation.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Eighty-four patients were diagnosed as CHD according to the results of coronary angiography and ACC/AHA diagnostic criteria. The patients were divided into 3 groups: acute myocardial infarction (AMI) group (n = 30), unstable angina (UA) group (n = 30), stable angina (SA) group (n = 24). Another 20 patients with normal coronary artery served as control. Expression levels of CD163 on monocytes were detected by means of flow cytometry, and the results were shown as mean fluorescence intensity (mfi). All patients underwent coronary angiography and the results were further evaluated by Jenkins score. Serum CRP and LDL-C were also measured.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The expression levels of CD163 on monocytes in peripheral blood were significantly higher in CHD patients compared to controls (P < 0.01) in the order of AMI group [(84.4 +/- 6.9) mfi] > UA group [(64.1 +/- 5.5) mfi, P < 0.01 vs. AMI] > SA group [(46.7 +/- 6.5) mfi, P < 0.01 vs. AMI and UA] > control group [(22.0 +/- 6.1) mfi, P < 0.01 vs. AMI, UA and SA]. The expression levels of CD163 on monocytes in patients with CHD were positively correlated with Jenkins score (r = 0.9107, P < 0.01), CRP (r = 0.766, P < 0.01) and LDL-C (r = 0.749, P < 0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Expression levels of CD163 was significantly increased in patients with CHD and positively correlated with coronary heart disease severity and serum CRP and LDL-C.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effects of irbesartan for heart protection and on heart nitric oxide (NO) system in diabetic rats.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Thirty adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three equal groups, namely control group, diabetes group and irbesartan group. Streptozotocin (STZ, 50 mg/kg) was injected to the abdomen to induce diabetes in the rats. After treatment for 12 weeks, the rats were sacrificed and the urine volume, body weight, ratio of heart to body weight, plasma glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) were measured. NO levels in the serum and myocardium were determined. Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression was determined by immunohistochemistry, and iNOS mRNA detected by RT-PCR.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Urine volume, ratio of heart to body weight, plasma glucose, HbA1C, NO levels in the urine, blood and myocardium in diabetic and irbesartan rats were significantly greater than those of normal controls (P<0.05). The ratio of heart to body weight and NO levels of urine, serum and heart tissue in rats of irbesartan group were significantly decreased as compared with those of diabetes rats (P<0.05). Myocardium iNOS mRNA and protein expression decreased significantly in irbesartan group, but not in diabetes group.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The abnormality in NO and iNOS mRNA expression might be related to diabetic cardiomyopathy. Irbesartan can decrease iNOS mRNA and protein expressions and reduce NO levels in STZ-induced diabetic rats.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effect of Sini decoction (SND) in preventing vascular restenosis and protecting against oxidative stress after rabbit iliac artery balloon injury.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Twenty-four male New Zealand albino rabbits were equally randomized into control group, model group and SND group. Rabbits in the control group were fed with common forage, and those in the model and SND groups with high-fat diet. Two weeks later, the iliac arteries of the rabbits in the latter two groups were subjected to balloon injury. Four weeks after the operation, the rabbits were killed and the vascular structure was observed by scanning electron microscope and optical microscope, with the serum cholesterol level, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) level determined.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Scanning electron microscopy showed that the endothelial cell lining in the iliac artery of the control and SND group remain regular, but the arteries in the model group presented with desquamated and exposure of the collagen fibril beneath the endothelium. Optical microscope revealed narrowed vascular lumen, thicken intima and numerous arteriosclerotic plaques in the model group in comparison with the control group, whereas the vascular lumen and intima thickness remained basically normal in SND group. The levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglyceride were decreased with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels increased in SND group, which was not observed in the model group. The serum SOD activity was higher in the control group than in the model and SND groups, but SND group had higher serum SOD activity than the model group. The serum MDA level was lower in the control group than in the other two groups, but SND group had lower MDA level than the model group.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>SND can alleviate intimal hyperplasia and vascular stenosis in injured rabbit iliac artery, possibly in relation to increased SOD activity and decreased lipid peroxidation as a result of SND treatment.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>This article reports a population genetic study on six short tandem repeat(STR) loci, D7S820, D19S253, D12S391, D5S818, D16S539 and D8S1179, in a sample of unrelated Chinese Han individuals(n=122-173) living in Hebei province.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>DNA extraction from blood samples (200 in number) and multiplex amplification of the above six loci were carried out. Using denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and silver stain, the authors investigated the distribution of allele frequencies of the six loci in Han population in Hebei province.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The STR polymorphisms at all of the six loci were observed in Chinese Han population in Hebei province. The observed heterozygosities of D7S820, D19S253, D12S391, D5S818, D16S539 and D8S1179 were 0.828, 0.757, 0.769, 0.837, 0.785 and 0.852, respectively. The measured values of the power of discrimination (PD) were 0.914, 0.919, 0.940, 0.909, 0.917, 0.944; of the mean exclusion chance(MEC) 0.618, 0.740, 0.801, 0.557, 0.655, 0.696 and of the polymorphism information content (PIC) in Chinese 0.771, 0.760, 0.762, 0.708, 0.776 and 0.794, respectively.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The genotype distributions of the six STR were in accordance with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The numerical values of the PD and MEC are relatively high in Hebei province, and thus can be of significant application in population genetics and forensic medicine.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>AIM</b>To establish a suitable condition for extraction of phenylalanine (Phe), 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-OH-Trp) and four diastereomeric salts, (1R,2S)-ephedrine- (2S,3S)-tartaric acid, (1R,2S)-ephedrine-(2R,3R)-tartaric acid, (1S,2S)-pseudoephedrine-(2S,3S)-tartaric acid, (1S,2S)-pseudoephedrine- (2R,3R)-tartaric acid in supercritical fluid extraction and to assess the solubilities of Phe, 5-OH-Trp and the four diastereomeric salts in CO2.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Single-pass method and HPCE.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The solubilities of Phe, 5-OH-Trp and the four diastereomeric salts in CO2 were determined over temperature and pressure ranges of 25-50 degrees C and 6.32-34.03 MPa respectively. The experimental results showed that the solubilities of Phe, 5-OH-Trp and the four diastereomeric salts do not increase with density of CO2. There existed a maximum in the critical region of CO2.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The dramatically high solubilities in the pressure of 6.32-7.78 MPa show a critical behavior, which can be explained by critical characteristic through thermodynamics analysis. The results suggest that the separation of Phe, 5-OH-Trp and the four diastereomeric salts is more efficient in critical region of CO2.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the mechanism affecting on permeability of vascular endothelial cell by nitric oxide (NO). Methods Series concentration of sin-1(a donor of NO) were added to ECV 304, a cell line of human umbilical vein endothelium. Cell growth and expression of f-actin, a cytoskeleton protein were observed. Results Cell growth was inhibited with a dose from 6.25 to 100 μmol/L and was caused to death at the concentration of 50 to 100 μmol/L by sin-1. The expression of f-actin was suppressed obviously after cultured with 100 μmol/L sin-1 for 4 hours. Conclusion It suggests that anomaly increased NO can increase permeability of blood vessels by suppressing the expression of f-actin, inhibiting cell growth or even resulting in cell death.

ABSTRACT

Recent advance in researches of alkane uptake by microorganisms was reviewed. To improve efficiency of bioremediation, knowledge of mechanism of water-insoluble substrate, especially alkanes, uptake by microorganism is badly needed. Powered by novel ideas and advanced techniques, more findings and conclusions were reported. Effects of surfactants on uptake of alkane, adjustment on cell surface properties and transport of alkane into the cells were discussed in this review, at the same time, evidences from analyses of cell ultra-structure and researches on cell chemotaxis were cited. There are still some questions in this area should be taken into consideration.
