ABSTRACT

A prospective study of 38 feet with hallux valugs deformity in 29 patients were reviewed. All patients were treated by a horizontally directed "V" shaped displacement osteotomy in the head of the first metatarsal together with a release and proximal advancement of the metatarso-phalangeal joint capsule form its medial side. The osteotomy was very stable and the valgus tilt of the first metatarsal head together with the primary varus. Operative results were encouraging since satisfactory results were seen in 84.2% and complications were uncommon. When the present series was compared with other series of similar procedure, the results were nearly similar

ABSTRACT

Thirty eight fresh fractures of the tibial shaft in 38 patients were treated operatively by A0 plate over a period of five years. The selected patients were those in whom conservative treatment failed or suffered multiple injuries. Ninety seven percent of the fractures united in an average time of 15.7 weeks and one patient [2.6%] developed nonunion. Three patients [7.9%] suffered delayed union of 32 up to 38 weeks. There was superficial skin infection in two cases [5.3%] and sloughing of skin in one [2.6%], the three were treated by dressing and antibiotics. Deep infection occurred in two cases [5.3%], one was controlled by plate removal and debridement and the second developed chronic osteomyelitis. Axial deformity of 12 varus, external rotation deformity of 20 and shortening of 1cm were seen in one patient. Two patients [5.3%] suffered moderate stiffness in the knee joint and three [7.9%] showed moderate stiffness in their ankle. The overall end results were excellent to good in 92% and fair to poor in 8%
