ABSTRACT

This study describes twenty three patients with radial nerve injury. Eight patients had direct repair, ten patients were grafted, and five patients in whom the lesion was in continuity were treated by neurolysis. The mean follow up period was 34 months. There were fourteen good results; six from direct repair, five from grafting and three from neurolysis. One patient had fair result after neurolysis. Eight patients had poor results, five after grafting, two after direct repair, and one after neurolysis. The good recovery occurred in the youngest patients with shorter delay between injury and repair. There were no poor results of the twelve patients performed within six months of injury. The poor results were among the eleven patients performed after six months of injury. The violence of injury was another important factor in determining the outcome. Of the open [tidy] group, five of the sex patients, of the open [untidy] group two of the three patients, and of the closed traction group seven of the twelve patients achieved good results. We strongly recommend early repair of the radial nerve. Tendon transfer is reserved for those patients in whom there is no significant recovery at one year

ABSTRACT

This study includes 22 cases of chronic osteomyeitis tibia with overlying soft tissue defects. The youngest age was fifteen and the eldest was sixty-five. Seventeen patients were males and five were females. In 10 patients chronic osteomyeitis [Ch.O.M] was a sequel to acute hematogenous type, in 8 due to open fracture tibia and in 4 patients it was secondary to chronic leg ulcer. All of them were treated by extensive debridement, sequestrectomy and fasciocutaneous flaps. The results were satisfactory in 18 patients [81.8%] and unsatisfactory in 4 patients [18.2%], with ecunence of bone infection in 3 patients and complete failure of flap in one patient
