ABSTRACT

Between November, 1983 and June, 1985 nine patients underwent Vesicostomy. In seven there was advanced obstructive uropathy, due to urethral valves. In the only female patient, the obstruction was at bladder outlet due to mucosal flap accompanied by an interureteric bar. One patient had severe urinary tract infection causing dysuria and urinary obstruction. Infection did not respond to the catheter drainage and antibiotics. There was one post operative death, due to septicemia related to improper functioning of the vesicostomy. In all the surviving patients, there was remarkable improvement in their general condition and their urinary tract

ABSTRACT

A study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of "Opsite" strapping for the Umblical Hernia. Opsite is a low allergy adhensive membrane, used during Surgical Operations. It also has advantages over commonly used sticking plaster, for being resistant to water and urine and also allows inspection of hernia. "Opsite" strapping was found to be effective in keeping the hernia reducea till the ring closed in 70% children below 2 years of age with umbilical ring defect of O.5 cm and above. In 11% there were skin complications of strapping. In some patients who developed minor skin abrasions, strapping was continued till the closure of ring. The abrasions healed as the strapping continued

ABSTRACT

Partial nephrectomy was performed on a patient of twelve years, having adencoarcinoma of kidney with duplex ureter. The two segments of kidney had independent blood supply. Operation was based on the evidence that if adenocarcinoma is localized to the kidney, then removal of the involved kidney alone is associated with long term survival
