ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the prevalence and disease burden of thyroid cancer and their trends between China and the globe from 1990 to 2019.Methods With the global disease burden data in 2019,Joinpoint was used to predict the trends of the disease burden of thyroid cancer in China and the globe from 1990 to 2019,and logarithmic linear model was used to test the predicted trends. The R language was used for predictive analysis and graphic plotting of the disease burden from 2020 to 2035.Results From 1990 to 2019,the standardized incidence rate and the standardized mortality rate of thyroid cancer in China were lower than those in the globe. The standardized incidence rate in China and the globe showed an increasing trend(with the increases of 102.65% and 40.65%,respectively),while the standardized mortality rate showed a decreasing trend(with the decreases of 7.63% and 4.91%,respectively).Compared with those of the female population, the standardized incidence and mortality rates of the Chinese male population increased significantly from 1990 to 2019(the rates of change in the male population were 48.65% and 214.60%,respectively;and the rates of change in the female population were -39.01% and 60.44%,respectively).China's overall standardized years of life lost(YLL),years lived with disability(YLD),and disability-adjusted life years(DALY)rates during the 30-year period were lower than the global average. The Chinese and global populations showed the standardized YLL rate decreasing by 16.61% and 6.88% and the standardized DALY rate decreasing by 10.77% and 3.65%,respectively,while the rates of standardized YLD increased by 128.91% and 46.89%,respectively.The magnitude of DALY in China and the world was mainly influenced by YLL.The standardized incidence, mortality, and DALY rates of the Chinese male population were gradually approaching the global levels. From 1990 and 2019,thyroid cancer showed a higher mortality rate in the population with the age ≥ 75 years and a higher incidence rate in the population with the age <75 years. It is projected that from 2020 to 2035,the standardized incidence rates in China and the world will increase by 36.66% and 21.15%,respectively;the standardized mortality rates will decrease by 20.19% and 3.46%,respectively;and the standardized DALY rate is expected to decrease by 7.08% in China and increase by 4.35% in the world. Conclusions From 1990 to 2019,China's standardized incidence rate of thyroid cancer increased and had a higher increase than the global level, and the standardized mortality rate decreased, with a slightly higher decrease than the global level. However, the increases in the standardized incidence rate and mortality rate of this disease in China's ≥75 years male population were severe.Although China's disease burden of thyroid cancer showed a decreasing trend in line with the global trend as a whole, the disease burden in the Chinese males was higher than that in the females.Specifically, the disease burden due to premature death was predominant, and the burden in specific populations requires policy attention.

ABSTRACT

@#AIM: To observe the effect of pigment epithelium-derived factor(PEDF)on retinal neovascularization(RNV)and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1)expressions in mice retina of oxygen-induced retinopathy(OIR), and to investigate the protective effect of PEDF on ischemia hypoxia retinopathy and the possible mechanism. <p>METHODS: A total of 160 postnatal day(P)7 C57BL/6 mice were obtained. All mice except normal control group were exposed to(75±2)% oxygen environment for 5d and then kept in room air for another 5d to establish the OIR mice model. All mice in normal control group(40 mice)were exposed to room air only. At P12 and P14, respectively, mice in PEDF treatment group were injected intravitreously with recombinant human PEDF(2μg/eye,1μL)in the right eye, while mice in treatment control group were injected intravitreously with the same volume of vehicle [1μL, 10mmol/L phosphate buffered saline(PH7.4), PBS] in the right eye. All mice were euthanized at P17. Eyes were whole mounted and stained with Lectin to observe the growth of abnormal RNV; And retinal specimens were prepared for PEDF, MCP-1 protein and mRNA analysis by Western blot and real time RT-PCR respectively. <p>RESULTS: Changes of retinal vessels had been detected by fluorescence microscopy on flat-mounted retina. The relative RNV areas were significantly increased in OIR model group compared with those in normal control group(<i>P</i><0.01). However, the relative RNV areas were significantly reduced in PEDF treatment group compared with those in PBS treatment control group(<i>P</i><0.01). The specific expression of MCP-1 protein and mRNA in the OIR model group were higher than those of normal control group, presenting a statistically significance(both <i>P</i><0.05). The specific expression of PEDF protein and mRNA in the OIR model group showed a considerable decline in comparison with normal control group, presenting a statistically significance(both <i>P</i><0.01). And the specific expression of MCP-1 protein and mRNA in those of PEDF-treated group showed a considerable decline in comparison with PBS-treated group, and the differences were statistically significant(both <i>P</i><0.05). However, there were increase of the expression of MCP-1 protein and mRNA between normal control group and PEDF-treated group, presenting no statistically significance(both <i>P</i>>0.05). <p>CONCLUSION: PEDF could inhibit oxygen-induced retinal neovascularization and down-regulate retinal MCP-1 expression under hypoxia, which may underlie its anti-neovascularization effects and play a role of protection in ischemic retinopathy.

ABSTRACT

Cataract is a major cause of blindness and vision impairment disease, and the main therapy for cataract is operation. For improving the postoperative efficiency, cataract surgery has gradually transformed from traditional restorative surgery to refractive surgery with modern technique. Visual quality is one of the crucial indicators for assessing imaging quality and surgical efficiency in cataract patients. Although several instruments are available, each has its advantage and disadvantage. In the clinic, the optimum visual quality analysis methods should be selected according to the principle, function and clinical significance to meet the practical needs of different cataract patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the pathogenesis of isolated ischemic stroke in basal ganglia using high resolution-magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI). Methods Fifteen consecutive patients with isolated ischemic stroke in basal ganglia, who received HR-MRI examination in our hospital between Jan. 2015 and Dec. 2016, were included in this study, and the clinical and imaging data were analyzed. Results Vascular evaluation results showed that 6 patients had normal middle cerebral artery, 4 had mild stenosis, 2 had moderate stenosis, and 3 had severe stenosis. HR-MRI examination showed that plaque formation of the middle cerebral artery in the lesion side was found in 10 patients, of which 7 patients had arc plaques and 3 had annular plaques. T1 weighted imaging showed that the plaques of 8 patients were obviously enhanced, the plaque of 1 patient was moderately enhanced, and the plaque of 1 patient was not enhanced. Conclusion The etiology of isolated ischemic stroke in basal ganglia is complex. HR-MRI examination can clearly show the wall and plaque of the middle cerebral artery, providing evidence for etiological judgment.

ABSTRACT

Serum pharmacochemistry of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) is an effective method to rapidly screen the effective substances and reveal the compatibility law of compound by identification and analysis of constituents migrating to blood after oral administration. In the last two decades, it has been universally accepted and widely applied in the field. With the cross-fusion with other disciplines, such as serum pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, metabolomics, network pharmacology and systems biology, serum pharmacochemistry shows comprehensive superiority in explaining drug changes in vivo and in vitro, interactions between drugs, interactions between drug and body, which coincides with the complexity of TCM compatibility, multi-components, multi-targets and multi-mechanisms. Based on the references related with the serum pharmacochemistry from CNKI scholar and Pubmed in 2013-2016, the research results of serum pharmacochemistry were statistically analyzed, and the key technical problems during the study of serum pharmacochemistry, for example, preparation of test sample, selection of experimental animal, determination of drug delivery scheme, method and time of the adoption blood, preparation and pretreatment of blood sample, as well as analysis of constituents migrating to blood, and the solving ways were empirically introduced. In addition, the development and comprehensive application of serum pharmacochemistry in TCM were summarized in this paper, hoping to lay a foundation for the further application of this method in TCM research.

ABSTRACT

Licorice is an important harmonic drug which has been widely used in traditional Chinese medicine since ancient times. However, with the increasing demand of industrial production, the licorice resources in our country have been reduced rapidly and we have to import licorice resources from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan consequently. In order to find out the trade flow of licorice resources and evaluate the status of Chinese licorice in the world trade, the trade situation of licorice and its products from 2011 to 2015 May in Chinese customs was investigated and analyzed in this paper. The import and export volumes of licorice were declining; the import and export volumes of licorice were relatively concentrated in international trade, with greater risks of trade; and export quota management was not well executed. As one of the strategic resources of medicine, licorice resources must be based on domestic development, and we should adjust the export quota management from passive quota to active quota management and improve the intrinsic value of licorice resources to establish the international market position of our licorice and control the pricing power in international market.

ABSTRACT

The commodity specification and grade is an important factor affecting the price of Chinese medicinal materials. Specification and grade standard play an important role in transferring quality information in Chinese medicinal market, which is characterized by highly information asymmetry. This paper analyses and expounds six classification methods of commodity specification and grade of Chinese medicinal materials based on the market investigation carried out in the medicine markets in Anguo, Bozhou, Yulin, Chengdu and so on. This study proposes that to formulate the commodity specification and grade standard of Chinese medicinal materials, their efficacy, inspection, purity and beauty should be taken into account orderly.

ABSTRACT

Traditional Chinese medicine market is a typical market with information asymmetry, which may lead to "lemons" problem. Third-Party Certification is efficient path to solve the problem of information asymmetry. For this reason geo-authentic and commodity classes certification seems to be very important. But as we know, information asymmetry happen in the stages of traditional Chinese patent medicines market. So a signaling transfer mechanism, which can deliver the quality signal, is badly needed in TCM market. This paper analysis and design of signaling transfer mechanism based on Third-Party Certification, which called quality prestige index of TCM enterprises (QPITCM). QPITCM can display quality information as a signal run through the TCM market.

ABSTRACT

A dispute about the decreasing-price problem of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has recently arisen. This article analyzes the statistical data of 1995-2011 in China, the results showed that the main responsibility of expensive health care has no direct relationship with the drug price. The price index of TCM rose significantly slower than the medicine prices, the production margins of TCM affected by the material prices has been diminishing since 1995, continuous price reduction will further depress profits of the TCM industry. Considering the pros and cons of raw materials vary greatly in price, decreasing medicine price behavior will force enterprises to use inferior materials in order to maintain corporate profits. The results have the guiding meaning to medicine price management.

ABSTRACT

The complex production processes and long industrial chain in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) market result in difficulty in Chinese market microstructure research. Based on the defining the logical relationships among different concepts. This paper divides TCM market into two stages as Chinese materia medica resource market and traditional Chinese Patent Medicines market. Under this foundation, we investigated the supply capacity, approaching rules and motivation system of suppliers in TCM market, analyzed the demand situation in the perspective of demand side, and evaluated the purchasing power in terms of population profile, income, and insurance. Furthermore we also analyzed the price formation mechanism in two stages of TCM market. We hope this study can make a positive and promotion effect on TCM market related research.

ABSTRACT

Based on vector auto-regression (VAR) model, this paper takes advantage of Granger causality test, variance decomposition and impulse response analysis techniques to carry out a comprehensive study of the factors influencing the price of Chinese herbal, including herbal cultivation costs, acreage, natural disasters, the residents' needs and inflation. The study found that there is Granger causality relationship between inflation and herbal prices, cultivation costs and herbal prices. And in the total variance analysis of Chinese herbal and medicine price index, the largest contribution to it is from its own fluctuations, followed by the cultivation costs and inflation.

ABSTRACT

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is the transition state between normal aging and AD. There are better detection and treatment methods to screen a population of patients with MCI. Through intervention, the probability of MCI conversion to AD can be significantly reduced. This paper first introduces the concept of cost-effectiveness analysis, reconsiders the concept of cost for the particularity of MCI, and uses QALY to evaluate the health effects of the quality of life. Then measure the health quality of life of elderly MCI population, and use Markov model to study the cost of intervention with traditional Chinese medicine-effectiveness analysis. Finally, according to the QALY measure and CEA results, we draw the conclusion that it's helpful to get early intervention in MCI.
