ABSTRACT

Ultrasound placental grading and its relation to infant birth weight and placental surface area was studied prospectively in 50 hypertensive pregnancies and compared with a similar number of normotensive pregnancies. There was no statistically significant difference in placental grading between hypertensive and normotensive pregnancies. Grade III placental changes, especially when they appear before the 36th week of gestation, are associated with a significant reduction in infant birth weight and placental surface area in both hypertensive and normotensive pregnancies

ABSTRACT

The clinical features of three sisters presenting with the complete syndrome of testicular feminiztion [TFS] are described. All of them were seen because of primary amenorrhoea. The gonads were in the inguinal canal in all of them. Two of them had inguinal hernia, a common feature of this syndrome. At laparoscopy the absence of mullarian structures was confirmed. Gonadoctomy was performed in two patients, in the third patient the testes were not removed awaiting pubertal feminization

ABSTRACT

In 323 cases of dilatation and curettage carried out over a twelve month period [1982] in pre-menopausal women with irregular uterine bleeding, the pick-up rate of endometrial malignancy was very low [only one case of endometrial carcinoma]. The yield of other endometrial pathology [e.g retained product of conception] was significantly high. It is suggested that the selection of cases for dilation and curettage under general anaesthesia could be improved

ABSTRACT

The uses of laparoscopy in diagnosis and investigations of 210 patients over a period of three years are described. The simplicity of the procedure is emphasized and a low complication rate is recorded. Laparoscopy was superior to hysterosalpingography in 35% of patients; and was superior to routine clinical pelvic examination in 24% of patients
