ABSTRACT

99mTc DISIDA Scintigrams of intants being investigated for proliged jaundice grom May 1983. to December 1987 were studied in order to determine the accuracy and usefulness of the test in differentiating extrahepatic biliary atresia (EHBA) from neonatal hepatitis. The patients were divided into 2 groups, group A consisting of those done from May 1983 to December 1986 and Group B consisting of those done from January to December 1987. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive and negative perdictive value of the test in each group were 62, 57, 58, 35, and 90, 77, 83, 75, 91%, respectively. With more experience and improved technique, today 99mTc-DISIDA scintigraphy has become an accurate test foe differentiating EHBA from neonatal hepatitis. When radiotracer is demonstrated in the intestine, EHBA can virtually be excluded. When no bowcl excretion is seen upto 24 hours, EHBA is probable and further invasive procedures are justified.

ABSTRACT

Patients without nausea received a capsule of 200 mg of Sn Cl2 orally and waited for 1 hour or patients with nausea were injected intravenously with a dose of MDP-Sn (II) and waited for 10 minutes. After the waiting time, 10 ml of blood was withdrawn. Whole blood was incubated with 99mTc 200 ตCi for 30 minutes and 1 wash with normal saline was sufficient. This procedure of labeling RBC with 99mTc is much more convenient than the conventional one. We have used this method since 1979 until 1984 with 52 patients without any adverse reaction occurring. The results are satisfactory not only in accuracy and cost but also in reducing the radiation dosage to patients and operators. This report offers 3 main benefits for this procedure. First of all it can help doctors to make decisions about the priority of examination. Secondly, it can be useful for those who are looking for a good method of measuring blood volume. Finally it can be most helpful in a teaching programme.

ABSTRACT

Preparation of DTPA kit was made by mixing a suitable amount of DTPA and stannous chloride. The kit passed quality test, especially stability test was done with and without lyophilizer to make it practical for laboratory with low facility. In vivo tests were performed in renographic study of 133 patients with invasive carcinoma of the cervix uteri, referred for irradiation at Department of Radiology, Siriraj Hospital, from September 10th, 1981 through March 21st, 1982. The results were analyzed by computer in details to ensure that this formula was one of the most effective.
