ABSTRACT
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy quickly emerged as an alternative to open cholecystectomy. During the last 12 months [Nov.90 - Nov.91], 75 consecutive laparoscopic cholecystectomies with no death and a morbidity rate of 5% [four of 75 patients; 1 major and 3 major] were performed. This study included six patients with acute cholecystitis. Operating time improved significantly from month 1 to month 12 [180 minutes versus 45 minutes, respectively], indicating a rapid learning curve

Fifty patients with inguinal hernia were subjected to herniotomy with or without repair under local anesthesia. All the patients were subjected to the intraoperative stress test during the operation and were discharged on the same day or 24 hours after surgery. This is an effective way of cost reduction, decreases hospital cross infection and decreases the burden on the nursing staff without any interference with the quality of medical service offered to the patients
