ABSTRACT

In the present study, twelve healthy mongrel dogs were used as experimental models, in each animal incision and flap reflection was done around one of the lower posterior molars on both left and right sides of the lower jaw. Flap in the right side was repositioned back by tissue adhesive tachocomb and the left side flap was repositioned back and closed by black silk suture 3/0 the dogs were sacrified at intervals two days - one week- three weeks and specimens were sectioned and stained with H and E and trichrome stain, our study demonstrated the wound healing was quick and uniform with less inflammatory response in the study group compared with control one

ABSTRACT

Ten patients with cystic lesions of either the upper or the lower jaw were chosen for this study. All cases underwent enucleation of the lesion and packing of the post-surgical bone defects with PRP in combination with Bony glass. Clinically all the patients showed good healing. Radiographically it was found, that the additional amounts of growth factors obtained by adding platelet-rich plasma to the Bony glass evidenced accelerated bone healing and maturation and a greater bone density in the healing post-surgical bone defects

ABSTRACT

The present study was carried out on five male patients suffering from lichen planus. Their ages ranged from 32-53 years. The oral affection sites were restricted to the cheek. The cheek lesion was excised completely with safety margin and the wound was covered with DUODERM dressing which is fixed in place by sutures removed after 7 days. The healing process was observed weekly up four weeks postoperatively for evidence of granulation tissue formation, epithelizations, suture and texture of new epithelium also scar formation was observed. It was found that the pateints can tolerate the DUODERM dressing without any discomfort and no allergic reaction to the dressing was reported by any patient. By the end of fourth week, normal color and texture of the mucosa was observed

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the essential fatty acid, linoleic acid, and its metabolic intermediate gamma-linoleic acid in the treatment of squamous cell carcinoma chemically induced in the cheek mucosa of the rabbits. The study was carried out on 10 rabbits of the same species. Cancer is induced by injection of 0.2 ml of 1% DMBA in paraffin oil into the cheek of the rabbits. The injected dose of DMBA was increased by 0.1 ml to attain a total of 0.5 ml, when histological examination confirms the development of cancer, treatment started with primose oil and corn oil in diet. A small swelling started to appear intraorally with fungated mass extraorally after four weeks from injection, with loss of body weight. As a result of treatment with PO the general condition of the rabbits improved with an increase in body weight and with shrinkage in size of the mass. The histological examination revealed epithelization of the ulcer at the end of follow up period with evidence of fibrosis. Primose oil and fatty acids can control local growth and dissemination of malignant cells

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the present work was to study the effect of kaltostat on the healing process after tooth extraction in guinea pigs with induced diabetes. Nine guinea pigs were used after induction of diabetes by a single subcutaneous injection of a freshly prepared Alloxan mono-hydrate in saline solution. The animals were considered definitely diabetic only when the non-fasting blood sugar level was above 180 mg%. So, it was recommended to use the kaltostat in diabetic patients after teeth extraction in combination with any systemic prophylactic antibiotics to avoid the development of fibrinolytic alveolitis and to accelerate the healing process without expecting any harmful side effects
