ABSTRACT

Objective·To investigate the effect of temporary hypothyroidism state to liver function, serum lipid and blood routine in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) prepared for radioactive iodine treatment. Methods?·?A total of 182 patients with DTC undergoing radical operation of thyroid cancer and radioactive iodine treatment were collected. All these patients were divided into 3 groups by age: 26 in young group (<30 years), 112 in middle-aged group (30-54 years) and 44 in elderly group (?≥?55 years). Indicators of liver function, blood lipids and blood routine were compared before and after operation, among groups as well. Results?·?Patients under hypothyroidism state had significantly elevations in ALT, AST, LDH and serum bile acid, but a notable decrease of serum bilirubin (all P<0.05). Meanwhile they had remarkable elevations in triglyceride, cholesterol, LDL and HDL (all P<0.05). In the young group before thyroid hypothyroidism treatment, the elevation of ALT, AST, LDH and serum bile acid were more significant than those of the middle-aged and elderly patients (all P<0.05). Conclusion?·?The temporary hypothyroidism state of differentiated thyroid cancer patients could elevate liver enzymes as well as dyslipidemia.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the uptake of 99Tcm-hydrazinonicotinamide-D-alanine-D-alanine-alanine-proline-arginine-proline-glycine (HYNIC-A(D) A(D) APRPG) in rabbit models of inflammation and VX2 tumor xenografted, so as to evaluate its use as a new tracer for tumor angiogenesis. Methods Ten rabbit models of xenoplanted VX2 tumor and inflammation were randomly divided into two groups which were injected with different injected tracers, 99Tcm-HYNIC-A(D) A (D)APRPG 99Tcm-RGD, followed by serial Gamma images at various time points. The first group underwent 18F-FDG PET ahead of 99Tcm-HYNICA(D)A (D) APRPG SPECT. Analysis of variance and t-test were performed with SPSS 10.0. Results 99TcmHYNIC-A(D) A (D)APRPG scan showed negative uptake at inflammation focus but positive uptake at tumor. Pathological examination confirmed high 99Tcm-HYNIC-A(D)A(D) APRPG accumulation in tumor cells, with the highest tumor/inflammation ratio (3.25 ±0. 171) at 2 h post-injection, which was significantly higher than that of 99Tcm-RGD (2.37 ± 0.076) (F = 15. 63, P<0. 01). The tumor/inflammation ratios of 99Tcm-HYNIC-A(D)A(D)APRPG, 99Tcm-RGD, 18F-FDG were significantly different at 0.5, 1,2,3, 6 h (F = 13. 83~26. 41; t = 23.84, 12.75; all P<0. 01). Conclusion 99Tcm-HYNIC-A (D) A (D)APRPG can be used as a potential tracer for tumor angiogenesis.

ABSTRACT

Neuronal firing is crucial to the information processing in the nervous system. In order to make a further study of bifurcation scenarios, experiments were performed on neural pacemakers formed at the injured site of rat sciatic nerve subjected to chronic ligatures. We chose the conductance of voltage-dependent potassium ion channels as conditional parameter, and the extracellular calcium concentration as bifurcation parameter, to give a demonstration of how the firing pattern of neural pacemaker responses to dual parameter adjusting. Among 28 preparations observed, 21 were insensitive to dual parameter adjusting since no change of bifurcation scenario structure was detected. On the contrary, the residual 7 preparations showed dramatic bifurcation scenario shifting corresponding to different dual parameter configuration. Briefly, when concentration of 4-aminopyridine (4-AP), a voltage-dependent potassium ion channels blocker, was kept at different level and extracellular Ca2+ concentration was decreased gradually, different bifurcation scenarios of firing patterns were exhibited in an identical neural pacemaker. The two-parameter bifurcation scenarios of experimental neural pacemaker with different parameter configuration were also different. The results show that neural firing pattern is different when the parameter configuration is different, and the bifurcation scenario is a fundamental framework to identify the transitions between firing patterns.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the different effects of 1% diatrizoate meglumine,2.5% mannitol and water as oral contrasts in PET/CT scan in gastrointestinal tract delineation and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake. Methods Sixty-one patients referred for PET/CT scan without gastrointestinal diseases were divided into three groups randomly ( random number method). One liter of 1% diatrizoate meglumine,2.5% mannitol,or water was orally taken by groups 1 (25 cases),2 (20 cases) and 3 ( 16 cases),respectively before scan. The scan was performed with GE Discovery LS PET/CT scanner in two-dimensional (2D) mode 50 min after 18F-FDG (5.55 MBq/kg) injection. Patients with abdominal lesions were excluded from this study. The degree of gastrointestinal filling and 18F-FDG uptake was evaluated by 3 nuclear medicine physicians using visual analysis according to a 4-grade classification method:none, mild, moderate, and high. Statistically analysis was performed by Kruskal-Wallis,Mann-Whitney and paired t tests. Results Both the differences of serum glucose and insulin levels were not significant before and after contrast taken in group 2. Group 2 had better gastrointestinal filling than that of group 1 and also better than group 3 except in rectum. The stomach, jejunum, ascending, and transverse colon were better filled in group 1 than in group 3. The degree of 18F-FDG uptake of group 3 was significantly higher than that of group 2 in stomach, jejunum and ileum (z= -3. 192,-3.290,-3.290,all P<0.05),and was also significantly higher than that of group 1 (z = - 3. 603,P < 0.05) in jejunum. The degree of 18 F-FDG uptake of group 3 was significantly lower than that of group 1 in ascending colon (z = - 2. 706,P < 0. 05 ) and was significantly lower than that of group 1 and 2 in transverse and descending colon (z= - 3. 503,- 2.403,- 4.225,-4. 027,all P <0.05),and was also significantly lower than that of group 2 in rectum (z = -4. 128,P <0. 01 ). The maximum CT values in stomach, jejunum, ileum and ascending colon in group 1 were ( 132 ±23),(191 ±31),(313 ±47) and (374±53) HU,respectively, whose difference was significant (t = -7.088--1.781,all P <0. 01 ). Conclusion Oral iso-osmotic mannitol intake has better gastrointestinal filling and less physiological 18F-FDG uptake compared to diatrizoate meglumine and water.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To study the changes in metabolism of (18F-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose) by positron emission tomography over computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging at different time points after inoculation of VX2 tumor cells into rabbits and determine the difference in FDG metablism between various inoculation regions. Methods: VX2 tumor cells were inoculated into rabbits. PET/CT imaging was performed at d 14 and d 19 postinoculation. The tumor growth and SUV (standard uptake value) changes were recorded. Tumor volume was defined in CT images. SUVmax was used in the calculation of retention index (RI). The distribution of 18F-FDG was observed in tumor samples and pathological examination was performed. The correlations of tumor volume and SUV value at various time points was analyzed. Results: Continuous dynamic PET/CT imaging found that VX2 tumor grew rapidly and the volume of tumor body gradually increased with the prolongation of postinoculation time. A linear increase in SUV was observed when the postinoculation time was prolonged. The tumor volume and SUV value had significant correlation with postinoculation time (r = 0.89, r = 0.93, P 0.05). SUV value was not associated with tumor volume at different time points (P > 0.05). Pathological examination validated that the tissues with accumulation of 18-FDG were enriched with tumor cells. Conclusion: VX2 xenografted model in rabbit is an ideal animal model for PET/CT imaging. Similar tumor growth and invasion style are observed regardless of different postinoculation days and body part. The efficacy of radiochemothery should be mornitored by PET/CT imaging in the period when the metablism of 18-FDG increases in linear.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the changes of gastric emptying in awake rats after acute myocardial infarction(AMI). Methods The male Wistar rats were submitted to thoracotomy followed by or not by occlusion of the left coronary artery. After 24 h, AMI(n=12)and sham groups (n=9)were fed in gavage(1 ml)with ~(99m)-Tc-DTPA labeled test meal. Half gastric emptying time (GET1/2) and 50min residual rate were measured by single photon emission computed tomography. The rats of AMI group were sacrificed after 50 min. Plasma level of motilin was measured by radioimmunoassay in AMI and sham group respectively(n=9). Results GET1/2 was significantly higher in AMI group[(23.1?4.7)min] than in sham group[(16.0?4.0)min](P
