ABSTRACT

Immunohistochemical analysis of C-erb B2 as the second member of epidernal growth factor receptor gene family, was performed using ABC method on 32 paraffin-embedded specimens including nine normal oral mucosa, three oral papilloma, two oral papillomas with dysplasia, five epithelial dysplasia and 13 cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma. The positive immunoreactivity for C-erb B2 was increased in oral papillomas, oral papillomas with dysplasia, epithelial dysplasia and oral squamous cell carcinoma relative to normal oral mucosa. In normal oral mucosa, both keratinized and non keratinized stratified squamous epithelium revealed positive reaction for C-erb B2 mainly cytoplasmic and membranous. The distribution of such positivity was in keratin, granular and superficial auter spinous cell layers [upper half of the epithelium], while predominantly basal and parabasal in non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium [lower half of the epithelium]. In the submucosa, the positivity was restricted to the muscular tissue

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of diclofenac sodium on the submandibular salivary gland through the light microscope [using H and E stain] and the transmission electron microscope. Light microscopical examination revealed structural degeneration and vacuolization of acinar cells in diclofenac sodium treated rats, with dilatation of the ductal lumina and apparent chronic inflammatory cells infiltration together with red blood cells extravasation. The examination of the submandibular salivary glands of treated rats, in electron microscope, revealed the serous acinar cells with vacuolated cytoplasm and few cytoplasmic organelles. There was extensive coalescence of the mucous secretory granules and the lumina of the mucous acini were abnormally distended and filled with the mucous secretory materials. In both serous and mucous acinar cells, the mitochondria were few and altered, while the rough endoplasmic reticulum was significantly inconspicuous. The nuclei were heterochromatic with irregular nuclear outlines

ABSTRACT

A total number of 22 adult male Wistar albino rats of average weight 400 g were used in this study. They exposed to traumatic occlusion to the left side for one week duration. Drugs injection started after one week from trauma as daily injection by intramuscular route with Feldene, Surgam and Orudis. From the results obtained, it was concluded that the effect of NSAIDs on the cartilage of TMJ have been assessed in experimental systems to evaluate, which group were more effective and the choice in between groups would be more specific. Drugs that had atoxic effect on chondrocytes and theoretically damaging were the Orudis. Surgam could be considered prior to Feldene in the lesser effect on cartilage based on the experimental results
