ABSTRACT

Introduction: malignant Lymphoma is a primary neoplasm of lymphoid tissue. It is the third most common cancer in children worldwide. There are.two broad categories of malignant Lymphoma: Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and Ihdgkin's disease with different microscopic features, treatment, and prognosis

Aim of the work: to determine the types of lymphoma in all ages, and in relation to gender and site of lymph node involvement in Hadhramout governorate

Materials and methods: this is a retrospective descriptive study of 170 cases of lymphomas retrieved from the archives of National Oncology Center, Hadhramout during the period between 2008-2013. The diagnosis was assessed by immunohistochemical results and categorized according to WHO classification of lymphoid neoplasms

Results: Out of 170 cases, [116/170, 68.2%] had Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and [54/170, 31.8%] had Hodgkin's Iymphoma. A male predominance was observed [103/170, 60.6%]. B cell lymphomas were the most frequent Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma type [95/116, 81.9%] and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was the common pattern of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma [58/95, 61.1%] of all Non- Hodgkin's lymphomas] followed by the Burkitt's lymphoma [20/95, 21.1%]+ The distribution of Hodgkin's lymphoma showed predominance of nodular sclerosis classical Hodgkin's lymphoma [38/54, 70.4%] of all Hodgkin's Iymphoma]. The proportion of lymph node [nodal] involvement of lymphomas is higher than extra-nodal, being seen in [91/116, 78.5%] of all Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and [49/54,90.8%] of all Hodgkin's lymphoma

Conclusion: Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is the most common type of malignant lymphoma, and DLBCL is the most common type, while nodular sclerosis classical Hodgkin's lymphoma is the most common type of Hodgkin's lymphoma. The nodal involvement of malignant lymphoma is higher than extra-nodal

ABSTRACT

To study some morphological alterations in the placenta resulting from the effect of hypertensive disorder of pregnancy in a full term gestation. A prospective study of 50 placentas collected from hypertensive patients, and 50 from normotensive mothers, with term pregnancies and vaginal delivery of alive singleton, in hospitals, Alwahda[Aden] and Ibn khaldon- [Lahj], from March to September 1999. The mean weight for hypertensive placenta is 473.90grn, and for Normotensive is 606.04gm with mean diameter of15.12 cm and17.50 cm. For villous arteries, the mean in Normotensive was 1.37 msv and 1.69 msv for hypertensive, while the mean of illous veins for 0.405 msv for normotensive and 0.225 msv for hypertensive group. Infarcts were present in 100% and arteriosclerosis in 82% and syncytial knots in 98% of hypertensive placentas. Placentas of hypertensive patients has low weight and small diameter, reduced arterial lumen and increased in the wall thickness, increased venous lumen size and reduced in wall thickness. The study of the morphological alterations showed that the placentas of hypertensive patients characterized by the presence of infarctions, arteriosclerosis, and syncytial knots
