ABSTRACT

The results are presented from an educational research experiment carried out with the participation of graduates of the Obstetrics and Child-Rearing curriculum of the Universidad de Antofagasta, with respect to achievement of professional competence. A descriptive methodological design was used by application of a self-administered questionnaire given to 22 midwives graduated between 2001 and 2004. Of the 22 persons participating, 17 were female, and all were over 24 years in age; 20 of these were employed in assistential systems, while the two remaining persons were employed in higher education. Their final grade averages ranged between 5.0 and 5.9. The results suggested that general competence and assistance skills were optimally transferred using the teaching methods employed in the curriculum, as well as the clinical practice and personal values conveyed. A deficit was detected in the development and leadership of education and community service, held back mainly by the curricular matrix and lack of practical opportunity, and by the personalities of the students. It is concluded that these professionals recognized the key skills required in their professional role based on the education received toward this end. The results also demonstrated requirements needed to improve the study plan which has been in place since 1995, in order to eliminate differences between real social needs and the education of these professionals.


Se presenta una experiencia de investigación educativa, llevada a cabo entre titulados de la Carrera de Obstetricia y Puericultura de la Universidad de Antofagasta, respecto de la percepción del logro de competencias profesionales, así como de los factores facilitadores y / o obstaculizadores del proceso. Utilizando un diseño metodológico descriptivo cualitativo se aplicó cuestionario por auto administración a 22 matronas, (es) titulados entre 2001 y 2003. De los 22 encuestados 17 fueron de sexo femenino, todos son mayores de 24 años, 6 se desempeñaban en el sistema asistencial, 6 lo hacen en la educación superior, 4 trabajan no en el área profesional y los 6 restantes no desempeñan ningún trabajo. Sus notas de egreso fluctuaron entre 5,0 y 5,9. Los resultados sugieren que se logran en forma óptima las competencias generales y asistenciales debido a las metodologías docentes usadas, las prácticas clínicas ejecutadas, las asignaturas orientadas a las temáticas requeridas en ellas y a los valores personales de los alumnos. Se detecta déficit en las competencias de gestión y liderazgo, de educación y trabajo comunitario principalmente obstaculizado por la falta de oportunidades prácticas, falencias de la malla curricular en estos aspectos y por factores vinculados a la personalidad de los alumnos. Se concluye que estos profesionales reconocen competencias claves en su rol profesional producto de la formación que han recibido para desempeñarlo. Los resultados también permiten mostrar componentes que serán necesarios mejorar en relación al plan de estudio vigente desde el año 1995, para que no exista un desfase entre las necesidades sociales reales y la formación de estos profesionales.

ABSTRACT

Se realizó un estudio de casos y control con el objeto de identificar factores de riesgo presentes en neonatos portadores de cardiopatías congénitas, nacidos en el Hospital Clínico Regional de Antofagasta entre 1994-1996. Se analizan 34 casos (75,6 por ciento de total), pesquisados por examen pediátrico post-parto, incluyendo 25 variables. Mediante el cálculo de Desigualdad Relativa (DR) y Test de Comparación de Proporciones, se logra identificar nueve factores de riesgo, la mayoría de los cuales coincide con lo descrito en la literatura. Déficit nutricional materno y consumo de tabaco excesivo por el padre, fueron los factores que resultaron con altos valores en nuestra casuística, sin embargo existe casi nula vinculación bibliográfica de ambos con el problema estudiado. Se anexa información epidemiológica sobre tipos de cardiopatías, incidencia, mortinatalidad e índica de sobrevida al alta.


A study was carried out on cases and controls with the objective of identifying risk factors present in neonates carrying congenital cardiopathies who were born at the Regional Hospital Clinic of Antofagasta, between 1994 and 1996. Analysis was made of 34 cases (75.6 percent of the total), determined by post- partum pediatric examinations which included evaluation of 25 variables. Using a calculation of the Relative Inequality (RI) and proportion Comparison Test, nine risk factors were identified, most of which coincided with results described in the literature. Maternal nutritional deficit and excessive consumption of tobacco by the father were factors related to high causal values. There was, however, almost no relation between these two factors and bibliographic data on the problem studied. Information is annexed on the epidemiology of types of cardiopathies, incidence, mortality at birth, and index of survival after release.
