ABSTRACT
Objective The mechanism of apoptosis induced by polyphenyl propenoid-polysaccharide complex(PPC)in hu-man breast cancer MCF-7 cells was studied. Methods MCF-7 cells were cultured with different concentrations of PPC for differ-ent time. The effects of PPC on proliferation and apoptosis were detected in MCF-7 cells by MTT assay,fluorescent staining,apopto-sis detection kit,DNA gel electrophoresis and Western blot. Results PPC induced apoptosis in MCF-7 cells. When apoptosis oc-curred,the enzyme activities of caspase-3 and-9 were increased,and the expression of pro-caspase-3 protein was decreased. Caspase-3 inhibitor(z-DEVE-fmk)could partially inhibit PPC-induced apoptosis and inhibit activation of caspase-3 precursor enzyme. Conclusion PPC induces apoptosis of MCF-7 cells by activating caspase family.

Objective@#To understand the status of awarences and the influencing factors of food safety among medical students in Shangdong Province,and to provide a reference for improving a healthy eating habit among students on their knowledge about food safety,attitude and behavior.@*Methods@#A total of 2 322 students from 2 medical colleges and universities in Shandong province selected through stratified cluster sampling were investigated with questionnaires.@*Results@#Univariate analysis of variance showed that food safety knowledge differed by gender, grade, major, origin of student, whether learned nutrition knowledge, monthly cost on food (χ2/H=20.48, 128.02, 98.61, 36.50, 77.60, 171.03,P<0.01). In multiple Logistic regression analysis, results showed that gender, major,origin of student, monthly cost on food and the attention of food affect college students’ food safety awareness (P<0.05).@*Conclusion@#Food safety awareness among medical students in Shandong Province is relatively high but varies by multiple factors. It is necessary to improve food safety awareness of medical students through various channels.
ABSTRACT
<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the occlusal contacts during protrusion and lateral movements in adolescent patients after orthodontic treatment.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Sixteen adolescent patients who achieved normal dentition after orthodontic treatment were selected as experimental group and 17 healthy adolescents and young adults with normal occlusion were selected as control group. The occlusal contacts during protrusion and lateral movements in the two groups were recorded with T-Scan II system and compared.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The prevalence of occlusal interferences in the posterior segment in the experimental group was high and most of them were on the second molars. The value of disclusion time during left lateral movements, right lateral movements and protrusion in the experimental group were (1.504 +/- 0.681), (1.532 +/- 0.913), (1.358 +/- 0.791) s. The value of disclusion time during left lateral movements, right lateral movements and protrusion in the control group were (0.470 +/- 0.059), (0.483 +/- 0.045), (0.482 +/- 0.047) s. The results in the experimental group were significantly longer than those of control group (P < 0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Although the patients achieved normal dentition after orthodontic treatment, their disclusion time were longer than those in healthy adolescents and young adults with normal occlusion.</p>

AIM To develop a simple reasonable and provable model of hypophysis shut off in rats with dexamethasone. METHODS Dexamethasone 6 mg?kg -1 was injected subcutaneously into two groups of rats at 3:00～3:30 pm on the preceding day. This dose was repeated at 9:00～9:30 am next day. The control group was treated with saline in the same way. One hour later, one of the dexamethasone treated groups was ig with Z47 200 mg?kg -1 , the other dexamethasone treated group and the control group was ig with 0 5% CMC. Then all the groups were ip with 0 086 mol?L -1 HAc in order to generate stress reaction. The reduction of the content of Vit C in adrenal gland was taken as the index of secretion of ACTH. ABSTRACT
AIM: To examine the apoptotic pathway of norcantharidin (NCTD)-induced HeLa cells death. METHODS: MTT, photomicroscopical observation, DNA agarose gel electrophoresis, LDH release and Western blot analysis were used. RESULTS: NCTD induced HeLa cells apoptosis and the apoptosis was partially reversed by the inhibitors of caspase-family (-3, -8, -10). The activities of caspase-3, -8 and -9 were significantly increased after treated with NCTD. The expression of the inhibitor of caspase-3 activated DNase (ICAD) was decreased in a time dependent manner. CONCLUSION: NCTD induces HeLa cells apoptosis through activating caspase pathways.
