ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the clinical effects of sinus elevation surgery and implant restorationdue to insufficient bone massafter tooth extraction in patients with odontogenic maxillary sinusitis (OMS) and to provide a reference for use in clinical practice.@*Methods@#This study was reviewed and approved by the Ethics Committee, and informed consent was obtained from the patients. Forty-five teeth were extracted from patients with OMS in the maxillary posterior area (the study group). Sinus elevation and implantation were performed due to insufficient bone height in the implant area 6-8 months after tooth extraction in the study group. Forty-eight teeth were extracted from patients without "OMS" in the maxillary posterior area (the control group), and sinus elevation and implantation were performed due to insufficient bone height in the implant area 6-8 months after tooth extraction inthe control group. In the study group, 13 cases of discontinuous maxillary sinus floor bone and residual alveolar bone height of the maxillary sinus floor less than 4 mm were addressed with lateral wall sinus elevation, and the other 32 cases were addressed with crest-approach sinus elevation. In the control group, 8 cases of residual alveolar bone height less than 4 mm in the maxillary sinus floor were addressed with lateral wall sinus, and the other 40 cases were addressed with crest approach sinus elevation. Restorations were placed 6 to 8 months after surgery. The patients were followed up 21 days, 3 months, and 8 months after implantation and every 6 months after the placement of the restorations. The sinus bone gain (SBG), apical bone height (ABL) and marginal bone loss (MBL) were statistically analyzed 24 months after the restoration.@*Results@#The average preoperative mucosal thickness in the 45 patients in the study group was (1.556 ± 0.693) mm, which was significantly larger than that in the control group (1.229 ± 0.425) mm (P<0.001). There were no perforations in either group. Twenty-four months after restoration, there was no significant difference in the SBG, ABH or MBL between the two groups (P>0.05).@*Conclusion@#After the extraction of teeth from patients with OMS, the inflammation of the maxillary sinus decreased, and the bone height and density in the edentulous area were restored to a certain degree. The effects of sinus floor lifting surgery and implant restoration do not differ between patients with and without OMS.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) related to SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant infection. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical data of 11 children with MIS-C, who were admitted to the Department of Pediatrics of Peking University First Hospital from December 2022 to January 2023. Clinical characteristics, treatment, and follow-up of MIS-C were summarized in this study. Results: The 11 cases contained 7 boys and 4 girls, with an age of 4.4 (2.0, 5.5) years on admission. All the patients had fever, with a duration of 7(5, 9) days. Other clinical manifestations included rash in 7 cases, conjunctival hyperemia in 5 cases, red lips and raspberry tongue in 3 cases, lymphadenopathy in 3 cases, and swollen fingers and toes in 2 cases. There were 8 cases of digestive symptoms, 8 cases of respiratory symptoms, and 3 cases of nervous system symptoms. Eight patients had multi-system injuries, and one of them had shock presentation. All 11 patients were infected with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BF.7 variant. The laboratory examination results showed that all cases had elevated inflammatory indicators, abnormal coagulation function and myocardial damage. Six patients had elevated white blood cell counts, 5 cases had liver function abnormalities, 3 cases had kidney function abnormalities, and 8 cases had coronary artery involvement. All 11 patients received anti-infection treatment, of which 3 cases received only 2 g/kg intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), while the remaining 8 cases received a combination of IVIG and 2 mg/(kg·d) methylprednisolone. Among the 8 cases with coronary artery disease, 6 cases received low molecular weight heparin anticoagulation therapy. All patients were followed up in 2 weeks after being discharged, and their inflammatory markers had returned to normal by that time. The 8 cases with coronary artery disease and 3 cases with pneumonia showed significant improvement or back to normal at the 4-week follow-up. All patients had no new complications or comorbidities during follow-up of more than 3 months. Conclusions: MIS-C may present with Kawasaki disease-like symptoms, with or without gastrointestinal, neurological, or respiratory symptoms. Elevated inflammatory markers, abnormal coagulation function, and cardiac injury contribute to the diagnosis of MIS-C. IVIG and methylprednisolone were the primary treatments for MIS-C, and a favorable short-term prognosis was observed during a follow-up period of more than 3 months.

ABSTRACT

Abstract@#According to the Healthy China Action Plan, Wuhan gives full play to the role of preventing and controlling student myopia by promoting student health. The primary focus is placed on education in schools, and Wuhan has integrated educational resources to develop a multi-level myopia prevention and control system and service network for school students. The network contains educational adminstrative, schools, families, and professional technical service organizations. By integrating multiple disciplines, Wuhan has built a comprehensive vision health management service system for all students. The Internet and cloud intelligent monitoring facilitated the establishment of a smart vision health management platform for students, which thoroughly and efficiently implemented myopia prevention and control to safeguard students visual health by engaging in education, monitoring, and supervision. The prevention and control of student myopia is a breakthrough for comprehensive healthy development of students. A comparison of the standard myopia rate in Wuhan in 2019 and 2018 revealed that the standard myopia rate at different learning stages of primary school, junior high school, and high school dropped by 3.31, 2.50, and 2.26 percentage points, respectively, and the rate of myopia in primary school was significantly lower than the national level. Post-epidemic surveys showed that the compliance rate and the awareness rate of the visual environment and visual behaviors of primary and secondary school students in Wuhan reached more than 80%, and prevalence of newly onset myopia or decreased vision was 30%, which was lower than the national average. The "Wuhan Model" provides an important referential framework for public health services for school students.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the efficacy and molecular mechanism of Zhizhuwan decoction and its ingredient-contained serums on the proliferation and apoptosis of rat colon interstitial cells of cajal (ICC), and make a molecule-level analysis of the possible mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) purgation-tonifying therapy in treating slow transit constipation (STC). Method:A total of 40 rats were divided into Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma(AMR) group, Aurantii Fructus Immaturus(AFI) group, Zhizhuwan group and blank serum group on random basis, with 10 in each group. Baizhu group was given 17.7 g·kg-1·d-1 of AMR decoction by gavage, AFI group was given 8.9 g·kg-1·d-1 AFI decoction by gavage, Zhizhuwan group was given 26.4 g·kg-1·d-1 Zhizhuwan decoction by gavage, and blank serum group was given 3 mL sterile distilled water for 7 consecutive days, once a day. Drug-contained serums and blank serum were collected from blood of the above groups and diluted to 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% concentrations. Each concentration was intervened for 24 h and 48 h, and the amount and status of ICC were observed. The best intervening concentration and time for each group with cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) were determined. Rat colon ICC was divided into blank control group, blank serum group, AMR group, AFI group and Zhizhuwan group. ICC proliferation for each group was detected with EdU, ICC apoptosis for each group was detected by flow cytometry, and expressions of X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) were detected by Western blot. Result:Compared with the normal group, the best intervention concentration for blank serum group, AMR group and AFI group was 10%, while that for Zhizhuwan group was 5%. The best intervention times for the above groups were all 24 h. No distinct difference between the effect of blank control group and blank serum group on the proliferation and apoptosis of ICC was observed. In comparison with blank control group and blank serum group, AMR group, AFI group and Zhizhuwan group showed significant changes in ICC proliferation rate (P<0.05,P<0.01). There was a greater increase in ICC proliferation rate of Zhizhuwan group than that of AMR group and Zhizhu group (P<0.05,P<0.01), with no distinct difference between the changes of ICC proliferation rates in AMR group and AFI group. There was no significant difference between the changes of ICC apoptosis rates in AMR group, AFI group and Zhizhuwan group than in blank control group and blank serum group. There were significant increases in the expressions of XIAP and PCNA in AMR group, AFI group and Zhizhuwan group than in blank control group and blank serum group (P<0.05,P<0.01), but with little difference among the three groups. Conclusion:At certain concentrations, Zhizhuwan, AFI and AMR all have the effect in improving ICC proliferation by increasing XIAP and PCNA expressions, with no evident effect on the apoptosis of ICC, based on TCM purgation-tonifying therapy, Zhizhuwan has the effect in improving ICC proliferation, with a better effect than single administration with AFI or AMR.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the effect of Zhizhuwan on intestinal conduction and expressions of Phospholipase C-γ1 (PLC-γ1)/Phospholipase C-γ2 (PLC-γ2) signaling pathway of slow transit constipation (STC) with spleen deficiency syndrome. Method:Special pathogen free (SPF) healthy mice were randomly divided into normal group and model making group. Folium Sennae gavage was used to induce the spleen deficiency status, and then diet and drinking water were controlled to establish the mice model of spleen deficiency constipation. After the modeling, the mice in modelling group were randomly divided into model group, Zhizhuwan group and mosapride group. Zhizhuwan group was given drug at the dose of 9.0 g·kg-1·d-1, mosapride group was given 2.5 mg·kg-1·d-1, model group and normal group were given the equal dose of distilled water for 7 consecutive days. At the end of the treatment, the length of Indian ink in the colon was used to calculate the intestinal propulsion rate of the mice. The D-xylose kit was used to determine the content of D-xylose in serum of mice. The hematoxylin eosin (HE) staining was used to observe the pathological changes of colon tissues in mice. The immunohistochemistry and Western blot were used to detect the expression levels of PLC-γ1 and PLC-γ2 proteins in colon tissues of mice. Real-time PCR was used to detect the mRNA expression levels of PLC-γ1 and PLC-γ2. Result:Compared with normal group, the intestinal propulsive rate and the serum D-xylose value in model group were significantly decreased (Pγ1 and PLC-γ2 in colon tissues were significantly decreased (PD-xylose in Zhizhuwan group and mosapride group were significantly increased (Pγ1 and PLC-γ2 were significantly increased (PConclusion:Zhizhuwan can promote the intestinal movement in slow transit constipation model mouse with spleen deficiency syndrome, and alleviate the symptoms of constipation in mice. The related mechanism may be related to the increase of the expressions of PLC-γ1 and PLC-γ2 in colon tissues of mice with spleen deficiency and constipation.

ABSTRACT

In order to understand the difference of contents of coelonin, batatasin Ⅲ and 3'-O-methylbatatasin Ⅲ in 60 different sources of Bletilla striata planted under the same conditions. UPLC method was used and the analysis was performed on a Waters ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 column( 2. 1 mm×100 mm,1. 7 μm),eluted with acetonitril-0. 1% formic acid solution by gradient. The flow rate was 0. 208 m L·min-1,the detection wavelength was 270 nm,the column temperature was 35 ℃ and the injection volume was 4μL. Under the above chromatographic conditions, the three components can be separated well with good linearity in the range of 0. 156-5. 000 mg·L-1. The average contents of coelonin, batatasin Ⅲ and 3'-O-methylbatatasin Ⅲ were( 0. 116 ± 0. 071) %,( 0. 386 ±0. 185) % and( 0. 086±0. 034) %,respectively. After planting for two years under the same conditions, there was no significant difference in chemical composition among different sources and varieties, but the contents of the three components had some regional differences, which indicated that the western region was higher than the eastern region, while the contents of coelonin and batatasin Ⅲ in B.sinensis were slightly higher than those in B. striata. The chromatographic method above is simple, stable and reproducible, and can be used for quantitative analysis of three components. The content analysis of different sources of B. striata can provide reference for future B. striata breeding and quality control.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the effects of hypoxia on osteogenic differentiation of periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs) and the role of hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) in this process. @*Methods @#Human PDLCs were isolated and identified by checking the expression of vimentin and cytokeratin. PDLCs were cultured in normoxia (20% O2) or hypoxia (1% O2) for 12-72 h. Changes of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and mRNA expressions of osteogenic markers ALP, collagen-I (COL1) and runt related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2) were detected. Western blot was used to detect the expression of HIF-1α. After transfected with HIF1α-siRNA, the expressions of HIF-1αand osteogenic differentiation markers were furthered detected. The statistics were analyzed with SPSS13.0. @*Results@#Positive vimentin but negative cytokeratin were observed in primary cultured PDLCs. ALP activity and mRNA expressions of ALP, COL1 and RUNX2 were decreased in PDLCs in hypoxia for 48 h, while HIF-1α expression was increased. After knocking down of HIF-1α with siRNA, HIF-1α was significantly reduced in PDLCs under hypoxia, while ALP activity and mRNA expressions of osteogenic markers were significantly increased. @*Conclusion @#Hypoxia may inhibit osteogenic differentiation of PDLCs via upregulated HIF-1α.

ABSTRACT

The effects of Dangguibuxue Tang (DBT) on growth performance and immunity response in immunosuppressed broiler chicks were investigated in this study. 240 one-d-old broiler chicks (DaHeng S01) were randomly divided into 4 groups, 2.0% DBT-treatment (A), 0.5% DBT-treatment (B), cyclophosphamide-control (C), and control group (D). From 4 d to 7 d of age, chicks in group A, B and C were given cyclophosphamide (CY) at a dosage of 100mg/kg body weight (BW) daily by intraperitoneal injection to induce immunosuppression. Chicks in group D were given an equal volume of physiological saline daily by intraperitoneal injection and considered normal chicks. Groups A and B were supplemented with 2.0% or 0.5% of DBT in the drinking water from 8 d to 42 d of age. Groups C and D did not receive any additional medication. The results revealed that chicks from group B had lower feed:gain rate (FGR), lower total mortality, higher immunity organ indexes, higher levels of Newcastle disease (ND) antibody and infectious bursal disease (IBD) antibody, higher interleukin-2 and interleukin-6 levels, and greater lymphocyte proliferative responses to concanavalin A (ConA) during the experiment than those from group C. However, no significant difference in the immunity status in the two levels of DBT-treatment was observed. These results indicate that supplementation of 0.5% of DBT can improve both cellular immunity and humoral immunity in immunosuppressed broiler chicks.
