ABSTRACT

Latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap was used in 25 female patients with breast cancer, 18 with primary tumor and 7 with local recurrence. The tumor size was more than 5 cm in all cases with primary tumor and Peau d'Orange was the commonest skin manifestation in this series [nine cases], fungating tumor was present in six cases and skin nodules with fixed skin in three cases. The donor area was closed without grafting in 17 cases and by split skin graft in 8 cases. The values of this flap in locally advanced breast cancer and in the surgical treatment of local recurrence were discussed

ABSTRACT

Sixty cases with low anal fistulae were operated upon by the "coring out" technique. The fistulae were located anteriorly in 24 cases [40%] and posteriorly in 36 cases [60%]. Thirty-eight fistulae [63.34%] were intersphincteric and 22 [36.66%] were trans-sphincteric. In 11 patients [18.33%], the postoperative pain was not endurable and a pain killer was given, while in the remaining 49 cases [81.67%] the pain was tolerable and a pain killer was not required. All wounds healed uneventfully without any interference with anal sphincteric action. The average time of complete healing was 3.2 +/- 1.3 weeks

ABSTRACT

The effects of Dexamethasone [Decadron M.S.D.] on the Frog's heart preparation was tested alone and in combination with cyclophosphamide [Endoxan ASTA-Werke] and Doxrubicin [Adriamycin Farmitalia]. Inhibitory action was demonstrated if the drug was used alone. Also synergistic inhibition occurred with the other two drugs. Adverse effects on the myocardium can occur in clinical situations where massive doses of steroids are used, and if setroids are combined with other chemotherapeutic drugs. Further study to elucidate the mechanism of action is needed
