ABSTRACT

Urinary tract infections [UTIs] are common in pregnant women, associated with an increased risk of preterm birth, low birth weight, and perinatal mortality. The objectives of this study are: To identify the organisms in the urine in mid trimestric pregnancy, to test for the sensitivity to antibiotics for better maternal health care. This is a prospective cross sectional, descriptive, hospital based study. The population of this study were the women admitted to [W.M.T.H] during the period of study and matched the selective criteria. The results showed that the most common sensitive drugs to the bacteria by culture are amikacin and ofloaxacine. The growth of the organisms in the media was found that it occurred in 88/119 [74%]. The common isolated organisms were the E-coli 21/88 [17.6%], klebsiella.spp 14/88 [11.8%]. It was concluded that urine culture is useful in guiding therapy. This can be particularly important in pregnancy where the choice of safe treatment alternatives is limited

ABSTRACT

Twenty four subjects presenting with colonic manifestations above 50 years old were studied. By proper integration of the clinical picture, colonoscopic, Ba-enema and duplex scanning, chronic colonic ischemia was detected in 17 cases [71%]. Cardiac disease was associated in 8 cases [47%] and diabetes mellitus in also 8 cases. Eight cases [47%] were found to run chronic stationary course while 5 patients [30%], presented with acute episodic form of ischemia. Four cases needed to be operated upon for resection of colonic segment undergoing infarction

ABSTRACT

Several new pyrazole, pyrazolo [5, 1-c]-1, 2, 4-triazine, pyrimidine and thiazole derivatives were synthesised by the reactions of 2-bromo-1-benzofurylglyoxal-2-[3-phenyl-pyrazol-5-yl]-hydrazone with a variety of reagents. Structures were established by elemental and spectral data

ABSTRACT

A variety of new pyrazole, pyrrolinopyrazole and pyrazolopyridazine derivatives were synthesised via the dipolar cycloaddition reactions of acrylonitrile, ethyl acrylate and N-arylmaleimides with the nitrile imine regenerated from 2-bromo-1- benzofurylglyoxal-2-[3-phenylpyrazol-5-yl]-hydrazone. Structure of the newly synthesized derivatives were established on the basis of elemental analysis and spectral data

ABSTRACT

Twenty-eight cases of perianal fistula [PAF] below eight years of age were studied and managed surgically. It was found that children above two years of age showed pattern of the disease very close the adult condition. Infants below two years of age, showed an exclusive male predominance and in many cases have deep anal crypts as an underlying anatomical predisposing factor. Healing was complete in all cases as meticulous primary fistulotomy was adopted as a routine procedure even in acute suppurating lesions. It was concluded that careful diagnosis, prompt surgical management of perianal suppuration in pediatric age group can bring perfect cure to the child provided that surgeon is experienced enough in the field to remember that the case is not just a miniature of an adult one

ABSTRACT

Severe and long and strictures reaching the dentate line are difficult problem to treat. A "hut" shaped advancement pedicle flap technique was tried in 16 patients with anal stricture. It was successful in 15 of them with disappearance of dyschasia, hematochasia and rectal stenosis. Mucosal ectropoid was also corrected. The technique besides being simple, was found to have these advantages: 1] It gives a broad and long skin flap, 2] It protects its blood supply, 3] It leaves no raw area minimizing the time of healing

ABSTRACT

Histological examination of the lower segment caesarean section scars taken from 100 women during repetition of caesarean section and using different types of staining showed that caesarean section scar healed by fibrous tissue formation. The amount of fibrous tissue varied from minimal amount in some cases to dense fibrous scars in other cases. Hysterographic study of the uterus 3 months after caesarean section for 20 cases was done compared to a control group of 10 cases. Post caesarean section cases showed some degree of deformity in only 2 cases, an incidence of 10% while other cases showed the usual smooth outline
