ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of nutritional intervention upon the clinical efficacy of chemoradiotherapy in patients diagnosed with esophageal carcinoma. Methods A total of 46 patients who were diagnosed with esophageal cancer in Anhui Cancer Hospital from November 2016 to August 2017 were enrolled in this prospective study. All patients were randomly and evenly divided into the nutritional intervention (NI) and routine treatment (RT) groups. The changes in body mass index (BMI),PG-SGA, serum albumin ( ALB), hemoglobin ( HB), white blood cell ( WBC) and other objective nutritional parameters and the incidence of chemoradiotherapy-induced complications were recorded before and after chemoradiotherapy. Results Prior to chemoradiotherapy, age, sex,BMI,ALB,PLT and clinical staging did not significantly differ between two groups (all P>0. 05).In the NI group, the BMI was (21.52±2. 67) after chemoradiotherapy, significantly higher than (21.13±2. 73) before radiotherapy (P= 0. 000).Moreover,the PG-SGA score after chemoradiotherapy was significantly lower compared with that before chemoradiotherapy (P= 0. 000).In the RT group, the BMI,Hb,ALB,PLT and WBC after chemoradiotherapy were significantly lower than those before radiotherapy, and thePG-SGA score was worse after chemoradiotherapy ( all P<0. 05).In the NI group, the incidence of grade 3 myelosuppression was 4. 34%, significantly lower than 8. 68% in the RT group ( P= 0. 000 ). Conclusions Patients with esophageal cancer treated with chemoradiotherapy have a high nutritional risk. Nutritional intervention can improve the nutritional status, reduce the incidence of chemoradiotherapy-induced complications, and probably improve the quality of life and clinical prognosis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the significance of computed tomography(CT)and 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)in intensity-modulated radiotherapy(IMRT)for esophageal carcinoma. Methods Thirty-five patients newly diagnosed with esophageal carcinoma who received radical radiotherapy in our hospital from November 2013 to April 2015 were enrolled as subjects. Target volume was delineated on the CT images and MRI images(T2-weighted and diffusion-weighted fusion images). The MRI-and CT-based IMRT plans were designed using the same dose prescription and dose constraints for organs at risk(OAR). The target volume, prescribed dose, and doses for OAR were compared between the two plans. Results In the two plans, dose distribution and planning parameters met the clinical requirement. The length of lesion, gross tumor volume (GTV),and planning target volume(PTV)defined by 3.0 T MRI were significantly smaller than those defined by CT(P=0.00,0.03,0.03). There were no significant differences in the D 2%,D 98%,D 50%,homogeneity index,or conformity index for primary GTV(PGTV)and PTV-PGTV between the two plans(all P>0.05). Compared with the CT-based plan, the 3.0 T MRI-based plan had a significantly smaller mean dose to the lungs and an insignificantly smaller actual dose to the lungs(P=0.00;P>0.05).There were no significant differences in maximum doses tolerated by the spinal cord or heart between the two plans. Conclusions In terms of target volume delineation and dosimetric parameters, both CT-and 3.0 T MRI-based plans meet the clinical requirement. The 3.0 T MRI-based plan may provide potential benefits for some OAR due to a smaller target volume compared with the CT-based plan.

ABSTRACT

In July 2009, some farms of breeding Muscovy ducks on the peak of egg laying suffered the decrease of hatching rate and the quality of the eggs showing low mortality and no evident respiratory symptoms. The swelling and congestive ovary was visible after autopsy. This study was brought out for the diagnosis of these cases. The virus was isolated and identified by the methods of virus culture in chicken embryo, physical and chemical properties test, hemagglutinin test, NDV (Newcastle diseases Virus) interference test, electron microscope observation, pathogenicity test and the gene sequence analysis. The results indicated the virus showed the characters of inducing dwarf embryo after inocubation, the sensibility to lipid solvent and the hemagglutination capacity after pancreatic enzyme treatment, the typical morphology of coronavirus, the interference to NDV replication and the homology among 84.7% - 99% of the particial N gene sequences to the reference IBV (Avian infectious bronchitis virus) strains. The strain was identified as IBV isolate and this study confirmed the pathogenicity of IBV to Muscovy ducks.

ABSTRACT

To compare vertical changes occurring in Class I patients after orthodontic treatment with different extraction patterns in a retrospective study. Records of 47 patients with extraction of maxillary first premolars and mandibular second premolars [4/5, Group A] and 46 patients with extraction of fourth first premolars [4/4, Group B] were obtained in the Orthodontic Department, West China Hospital of Stomatology, Chengdu, Sichuan, China from April 2008 to July 2012. Pretreatment and posttreatment cephalograms were digitized, 8 skeletal and 10 dental cephalometric measurements were selected to evaluate vertical changes. Changes of measurements resulting from orthodontic treatment in each group were compared by paired t-test; changes between 2 groups were compared by Independent t-test. Before treatment, subjects in Group A showed larger angle formed by the intersection of NA and NB lines, overjet, and overbite than those in Group B. After treatment, both groups showed significant vertical changes after orthodontic treatment without remarkable differences between groups. No differences of vertical change were found between the 2 extraction patterns. The hypothesized wedge effects due to mesial movement of posterior teeth might be balanced by the extrusion of posterior teeth as well as the residual growth potentials

ABSTRACT

Influenza virus assembly requires the completion of viral protein and vRNP transport to the assembly site at the plasma membrane. Therefore, efficient regulation of intracellular transport of the viral proteins and vRNPs to the surface of the host cell is especially important for virus morphogenesis. Influenza A virus uses the machineries of host cells to transport its own components including ribonucleoproteins (vRNPs) and three transmembrane proteins hemagglutinin (HA), neuraminidase (NA) and matrix 2 protein (M2). It has been shown that newly synthesized vRNPs are associated with active form of Rab11 and accumulate at recycling endosomes adjacent to the microtubule organizing center (MTOC) following nuclear export. Subsequently, they are transported along the microtubule network toward the plasma membranes in cargo vesicles. The viral transmembrane proteins are translated on the rough endoplasmic reticulum and transported to the virus assembly site at the plasma membrane. It has been found that several host factors such as ARHGAP21 and GTPase Cdc42 are involved in regulation of intracellular trafficking of influenza A virus transmembrane proteins including NA. In this review, we will highlight the current knowledge about anterograde transport and its regulation of the influenza A virus transmembrane proteins and genome in the host cytoplasm.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinicopathologic and immunohistochemicalcharacteristics of primary squamous cell carcinoma of the breast(PSCCB). Methods Sixteen patients with primary squamous cell carcinoma of the breast were retrospectively reviewed. Twelve cases with a follow-up information were evaluated for ER, PR, C-erbB-2, HCK, Ki-67 expression. Results PSCCB is a very rare neoplasm, constituting 0.8 % of all breast carcinoma over 28 years(1981-2008) in our hospital. The patients age varied from 25 to 72, median age is 49 years old. All patients received operative treatment. Seven patients had metastatic disease in axillary lymph nodes. Three patients died from metastases and tumour recurrence.Tumors were usually ER-negative, but most cases showed high molecular cytokeratin (HCK) expression. Conclusion In terms of the clinical feature, there were no differences between the PSCCB and the other breast cancer. PSCCB could be confirmed by pathology. The prognosis is in controversial. Standard therapy should be studied and recommended in future.
