ABSTRACT

By using multistage method, three girl's schools in East zone in Alexandria were selected to identify the lifestyle and patterns of health behaviors among female adolescents in Alexandria. A sample of 439 girl students enrolled in the above schools was included in the study. A questionnaire sheet was developed to obtain necessary data. The mean age group was 14.54 +/- 1.94 years. Also 61.7% were first or second child. Weak positive correlation was observed between age groups, scholastic years and behavior patterns of the sample regarding beverage intake, dieting, and exposure to sun. A negative weak correlation was observed as regards physical exercise, while no significant correlation was observed in relation to nutritional habit. So, it is recommended to enforce health education of adolescent through several resources as schools, home and community. School health nurses and schoolteachers should be trained to respond to the needs of adolescents and should be provided with guidelines. Mass media should be used to disseminate information for adolescent in all areas, related to growth, and in establishing desirable health behavior

ABSTRACT

This study was undertaken to assess women's practices in feeding of their newborn during the first postpartum week in Alexandria and Assyut and the factors affecting them. It was conducted in obstetric and Gynecologic department of the new university hospital in Assyut city and the postpartum department of El-Shatby Hospital in Alexandria and included all postpartum women whose deliveries were normal during the time of data collection [n=198]: 92 from Alexandria and106 from Assyut. The percent of women who started breast feeding in the third postpartum day was more among women in Assyut. A significant difference was observed between the two groups regarding the time of initiation of breast feeding. Nearly equal percents of both groups used prelacteal fluids for feeding their newborn during the first postpartum days. In Assyut, education and employment played a significant role in the early practice of breast feeding and its regimen, while in Alexandria, parity influenced these practices. In both cities, women's self experience influenced their initiation of breast feeding. Media was a most effective factor in the practice of breast feeding with complementary fluids in Alexandria

ABSTRACT

The study was carried out on the third grade students of the Higher Institute of Nursing [HIN] of Alexandria and Tanta Universities and second grade students of the Higher Institute of Nursing. Assiut University, who were studying Pediatric Nursing. A total of 86,60 and 34 nursing students from Alexandria. Tanta and Assiut Universities respectively were enrolled in the study to assess their knowledge about diarrhea and dehydration. A questionnaire interview sheet was developed. Data were collected over a period of four months. The results revealed that Alexandria students had a higher score of knowledge than Tanta and Assiut students. All the studied sample had incomplete knowledge about assessment of patients. It is recommended that Nursing Institutes should pay more stress on the assessment of learning style in order to identify learners who may have difficulty in achievement and to the use of different methods of teaching and learning experience to help these students in improving their knowledge

ABSTRACT

One-hundred nine nursing students on grades fourth participated in the study. Data were collected using a questionnaire that assessed the subjects' knowledge of immediate care. The results showed that nursing student's knowledge was partially obtained. There was a minor loss of knowledge of some items e.g. immediate care of fracture arms and limbs, importance of immediate care and techniques used for resuscitation of persons. The rest of knowledge regarding the other items was very poor to be obtained, due to lack of practice care

Although there was loss of knowledge in the late follow-up. Yet, the majority of the women could retain most of the information taught to them
