ABSTRACT

Objective To observe NLS-KALA-SA-PTX (NKSP) for lung adenocarcinoma cell line A549 in vitro with paclitaxel monotherapy, and the mechanism thereof. Methods MTT assay was used to detect A549 cell proliferation influ-enced by different concentrations of NKSP (20, 40, 80, 100μg/L) and paclitaxel monotherapy (20, 40, 80, 100μg/L) for 24 h, 48 h and 72 h.. Subsequent experiments were divided into four groups, namely, group A (without any drug treatment), group B (added polypeptide 80μg/L of self-assembled nanoparticles, NKS), group C (80μg/L paclitaxel monotherapy) and group D (80μg/L NKSP). Flow cytometry was used to detect the cell apoptotic rates after 48 h and 72 h treatment in four groups. Western blot assay was used to analyse the protein expressions of bax and caspase-3 after 48 h and 72 h treatment in four groups. Results Both paclitaxel monotherapy and NKSP can inhibit the proliferation of A549 cells. The inhibitory rates of paclitaxel monotherapy group at 48 h and 72 h and NKSP group at 72 h showed an increasing trend in a dose-depen-dent manner (P<0.05). After treatment for 48 hours, the apoptotic rate was significantly higher in D group than that of C group (P<0.05). But the apoptotic rate at 72 h was lower in D group than that of C group (P<0.05). The protein expressions of bax and caspase-3 at 48 h were significantl lower in D group than those of C group, which were higher at 72 h in D group than those of C group (P<0.05). Conclusion Compared to paclitaxel monotherapy group, NKS promotes slow release of pa-clitaxol, which reduces the cytotoxicity and extends the antitumor effects.

ABSTRACT

Ectopic mediastinal parathyroid adenomas are rare, but can be life-threatening. Resection is indicated in those cases accompanied by hypercalcemia, especially in young patients. Although most mediastinal parathyroid adenomas can be removed by a cervical approach, a transthoracic approach is needed when the adenoid tissues are located deep within the thoracic cavity. We describe the case of a 37-year-old female who underwent excision of an intrathoracic ectopic parathyroid adenoma after parathyroidectomy four months earlier.

ABSTRACT

Erosive adenomatosis of the nipple is a rare and benign tumor of the lactiferous ducts of the breast that affects primarily middle-aged women. Erythema, crusts, erosions, ulcerations or nodules, with or without serous or bloody discharge, are common clinical findings; pruritus, tenderness or pain may occur or it can be asymptomatic. Since the lesions are clinically indistinguishable from PagetÆs disease of the breast, a skin biopsy is mandatory for diagnosis. Adenocarcinoma of the breast is the main histologically differential diagnosis. Surgical resection is the treatment of choice. We present such a case in a 32-year-old woman with an 8-year history that begun as an erythematous, crusty lesion on her right nipple.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the promoter methylation status of Ras association domain family 1 isoform A (RASSFIA) and adenomatosis polyposis coli promoter (APC) and its association with prostate cancer (PCa), so as to pave a way for early diagnosis of Pea. Methods The prostatie tissues and clinical data were collected from 60 patients with prostate cancer and 40 patients with benign prostatie hyperplasia (BPH) tissues. Bisulphite Sequencing PCR was used to detect the promoter CpG methylation of RASSFIA and APC genes. Results The methylation rates of promoter CG sites of RASSFIA and APC genes in Pea group were significantly higher whan those in the BPH group (RASSFIA: 60. 8% vs 14%; APC: 48. 84% vs 1. 19%, P<0. 05). The methylation rates in RASSFIA and APC genes were significantly associated with PSA, Gleason score, pathologic stage and risk classification of PCa (P< 0.01). Combined detection of methylation status of RASSFIA and APC genes yielded a sensitivity of 95. 74% and a specificity of 82. 90% in differential diagnosis of PCa and BPH. Conclusion The promoter methylation of RASSFIA and APC genes are associated with the development and progression of PCa, and the changes of methylation rate is closely associated with risk classification of PCa. Combined detection of methylation in RASSFIA and APC genes may be a promising method for early diagnosis of prostate carcinoma.

ABSTRACT

A case of erosive adenomatosis of the nipple is reported with a clinicopathologic correlation, an unusual disease that we, as dermatologists, should know since the differential diagnosis with the Paget's disease and the intraductal breast carcinoma can lead to unnecessary surgery.

ABSTRACT

Erosive adenomatosis of the nipple is a benign tumor originated from the lactiferous duct of the breast. A 41-year-old woman presented with one year history of painful and pruritic erosion of the right nipple. A biopsy specimen showed tubular structures which were lined by inner columnar cells showing secretory properties into the lumen and peripherally located cuboidal cells. The papillary projections of the luminal cells into the lumen were also seen. We, herein, report a rare case of erosive adenomatosis of the nipple.

ABSTRACT

We present a case of erosive adenomatosis of the nipple in a 22-year-old woman. The clinical features of erosive adenomatosis of the nipple are similar to Paget's disease in that it has erythematous erosions with oozing and fissured crusts on one nipple. However, histologic findings are characteristic, consisting of dilated tubular structures that are lined by a peripheral layer of cuboidal cells and a luminal layer of columnar cells showing secretary properties into the lumen. The clinical course is benign, so simple mastectomy is enough for treatment.

ABSTRACT

To elucidate the significance of the nesidiodysplasia of pancreas, histological re-evaluation and immunohistochemical studies for insulin, glucagon and somatostatin were done on 16 consecutive cases (5 premature babies, 2 stillborns, 5 infants and 3 adults) in which paraffin blocks of the pancreas were available. Only one infant was hypoglycemic. All 16 pancreases showed changes of nesidiodysplasia which appeared immunohistochemically to have isulin, glucagon and /or somatostatin. The histologic patterns of nesidiodysplasia included ductoendocrine proliferation, endocrine cell dysplasia, adenomatosis, septal islet, islket cell hypertrophy and islet hypertrophy. All the patterns of nesidiodysplasia except for the adenomatosis were seen in premature babies, infants, stillborns and adults with or without hypoglycemia. The adenomatosis was found only in the hypoglycemic infant. The result suggests that all patterns of nesidiodysplasia of other than the adenomatosis does not imply the pathologic basis of hypoglycemia.

ABSTRACT

The patient was a 35 year old woman complaining of non tender erythematous nodule on the left nipple for 2 years. Histopathologic findings showed focal acanthosis and extension of epithelium into some of the superficial ductal structures. In the dermis, the tubules were lined by a peripheral layer of cuboidal cells and a inner layer of columnar cells. The papillary projections of the luminal cells into the lumen also were shown. In the upper dermis, we could find the keratin cysta. She was treated with a simple excision of the nipple and subareolar tissue.

ABSTRACT

We experienced a case of erosive adenomatosis of the nipple (EAN) in a 20-year-old lady. She have had an eczematous, erosive and crusted nipple, on the right si.de, with a serosanguineous discharge for the past two years. The biopsy specimen of eczematous lesion on the affected nipple showed focal erosion and acanthosis in the epidermis. Florid intraductal epithelial proliferation and solid nests were scattered in the nipple stroma without showing any cellular pleomorphism. The lining epithelium maintained two layers of cells the inner colurnnar cells and the outer cuboidal cells. Chronic inflammatory infiltrates of relatively dense lymphohisiocytes were found in the surrounding stromal tissue, Paget cells or underlying malignancy were not seen, and a group of tumor netst was confined to the upper part of the subareolar tissue.
