ABSTRACT

Abstract Surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-based biosensors offer superior analytical features such as simplicity, sensitivity, and specificity when compared to conventional methods in clinical analyses. In addition, they deliver real-time monitoring of label-free analytes with high-throughput approaches requiring little sample pretreatment that allows the analysis of virtually every clinical sample type to determine the amount and/or activity of any molecule of interest. Accordingly, SPR emerges as a novel, efficient, powerful, and relatively low-cost alternative tool for routine clinical analysis, opening also new horizons for developments in personalized medicine applied to diagnostics or therapeutics’ monitoring.

ABSTRACT

Background: It is a major challenge to support training for simulated patients (SPs) and maintain a SP community. In order to promote the motivation of SPs, we conducted two sessions titled “clinical diagnostics lectures” . This study qualitatively explores the impact of the lectures for SPs. Methods: Nine SPs who attended the clinical diagnostics lectures took part in focus group interviews. Transcripts were analyzed as per the Steps for Coding and Theorization (SCAT) method. Results: Fifteen concepts and six categories were generated from the focus group interviews. The categories included <Medical information learning>, <Deepening understanding of scenarios>, <Effect on performance>, <Effect on feedback>, <Motivation for learning>, and <Concerns about biasing toward medical models>. Discussion: “Clinical diagnostics lectures” provided to SPs offer a deeper understanding of scenarios and motivation for SPs to learn. However, there was concern about deviation from the patient’s perspective.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the quality of the examination paper of the theory of Clinical Diagnostics,to explore and reflect on the teaching methods,so as to improve the quality of teaching. Methods Finals results of Clinical Diagnostics including 40 clinical undergraduates of Capital Medical University were analyzed.SPSS 20.0 was used to make analysis of the frequency, means statistics and normality of the examination paper.Kuder Richardson/Cmnbacha formula, percentage unification methods and so on were used to calculate confidence, validity, difficulty and degrees of distinction.Acquisition of relevant knowledge was assessed according to score distribution, while test paper quality was evaluated based on indicators including confidence, validity, difficulty and degrees of distinction. Results Test scores of 40 students were between 61 to 96 (83.64 ± 8.07).The degree of confidence (γ) for choice questions and subjective questions was 0.65 and 0.59 respectively; The validity (V) was 0.27;The overall difficulty (P) of the examination was 0.84;The degrees of distinction (D) were between 0.16 to 0.30.And the total points losing rate was 16.36%.Conclusion The examination is of medium difficulty and good degree of distinction, but the teaching strategies still need further adjustment in order to improve the students' ability of flexible application of the basic knowledge.

ABSTRACT

Check the correlation between the clinical and histopathological study of biopsies performed in the Center of Expertise in Oral Pathology - CEAP Clinic Asa Branca ASCES College from 1999 to the first half of 2010. A retrospective study, based on histopathological findings in 1381, made available in this center. We excluded 27.3% (n = 519) There was agreement between clinical and histopathological diagnosis in 50% (n = 690) of cases, there was greater coincidence (60%) between the diagnoses in the group normal standard and greater divergence in the group of benign neoplasms (59.8%). The lesion was found more fibrous hyperplasia with 16.3% followed by mucocele (8.7%) and fibroma (8.6%). It was concluded that the group of normal is more easily while the benign neoplasms have a more complex clinical diagnosis, justifying a biopsy and histopathological analysis to obtain a definitive diagnosis. Also given the large number of injuries may affect the maxillofacial complex with similar affect the maxillofacial complex with similar characteristics that can induce the professional error.

ABSTRACT

The improvement of diagnostics teaching system, including the establishment of curriculum system and evaluation system,is the base of promoting clinical- medicine teaching. Our study showed that the theoretical knowledge and clinical skill of medical students could be improved by constructing clinical diagnostics curriculum system and improving organization management and assessment system, which could pave the way for the transition from medical students to clinicians.
