ABSTRACT

In this paper, the film City of God, by Fernando Meirelles, is the trigger for a reflection on barbarism in Brazilian outskirts. Captured in its narrative plot, the middle-class spectator is encouraged to move from a passive position, insofar as he is entangled in the violence that the film denounces. From a methodological point of view, this film analysis consists of a psychoanalytic research supported on the way Freud listens to a visual work in The Moses of Michelangelo. In this sense, a formal element of the City of God's composition - a 360º panoramic view - seems to allude to the genocide of the country's black youth. From a psychoanalytical reading, we suggest that this circuit of repetition indicates the filicide in culture: the extermination of new generations orchestrated by power structures in order to sustain positions of jouissance. In the deadly circuit in which young black Brazilian people from the periphery are swallowed, it is a matter of describing what is regularly repeated, but also the possibilities of inscribing a difference.(AU)

ABSTRACT

This paper is a psychoanalytic exercise encouraged by the reading of the book Indignation by Philip Roth (2008). In light of the psychoanalytic field theory, the authors discuss the organization of a conflictual generational field that eventually leads the novel's hero to a tragic outcome. Inspired by field theory (Baranger & Baranger, 1961-62), they start by imagining how the two main characters of the book would talk about themselves to an analyst in a psychoanalytic session. Next, some thoughts about Phillip Roth and his work are presented, as well as the field that was created between the reader and the reading process. Finally, moved by the dramatic richness of the novel, the authors investigate some of the psychoanalytical aspects about the hero´s trajectory, whose deliberate departure from his family was an unconscious disguise for the difficulty in facing the generational confrontation. The hypotheses of filicide and father-son symbiosis are considered.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Parricide, the crime of murdering a parent, accounts for about 5% of all homicides. Filicide is the crime of murdering one's own child. This study aimed to review demographic features and criminal characteristics of individuals who committed parricide and filicide in Republic of Korea (ROK). This study is based on data from the Korea Police Crime Analysis System, from 2006~2013. We assessed the diverse characteristics of both victims and perpetrators. Over the selected period, 381 parents were killed by their children and 230 children were killed by parents in the ROK. Parricides caused by schizophrenic murders accounted for 39.6% of all cases. Moreover, approximately 44.4% of the perpetrators attempted suicide following the maternal filicide. In our findings, psychiatric illness was a very important predictor in parricide, and these further suggest that young mothers with severe mental illness require careful monitoring by mental health support service.

ABSTRACT

There are forms of child mistreatment that culturally are not considered as such by being seemingly harmless, but Raskovsky (1975[1970]) called them attenuated forms of filicide. Although its effects vary according to particular circumstances, it may be supposed that it means an excess of Qή (Freud, 1895) for the psychic apparatus that must be drained out anyhow: often, through aggressive behavior. Here we report the case of a 5 years old boy exposed to the mother’s anger; she left him helpless against his tension states or intensified them through her scolding, leaving no chance to metabolize the tension. This paper analyzes the child history and his productions through observation ant treatment sessions following Bleichmar’s (1993, 1999) views.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Filicide, the murder of a child by his or her own parent, is a multifaceted phenomenon with diverse causes and characteristics. This study aimed to review the present state of knowledge regarding demographic, psychosocial, clinical, and legal characteristics of filicide. METHODS: Domestic and International database were systematically searched with keyword of "filicide" for studies published until October, 2010, in English or Korean. Of the 107 searched articles, those that were overlapped in contents or out of the scope of this review were excluded. Finally, total 88 literatures were included in this review. RESULTS: The characteristics of the parents who committed filicide varied greatly by the type of the sample enrolled in studies. The results of the review suggested that little is known about the factors that confer victimization risk to children. The legal punishment was also different by nations. CONCLUSION: Given the range of capability of filicide, mental health professionals should be alert to the possibility of filicide in a variety of parents. A systematic and more focused research to elucidate reliable predictors of filicide is needed to better prevent these tragic events.

ABSTRACT

In Chile, legally commits parricide the one that, knowing the relationships that binds them, kills his/her father, mother or child, or any other of his/her ascendants or descendants, or spouse or couple. It is a rare crime, being around 4 percent of the homicides. The objective of this review is to characterize parricide psychiatrically, which is done basically using international literature. There are different profiles of parricides depending on the characteristics of the situation in which the crime is committed. The most frequent profile is that of a young male adult, with acute psychotic pathology, associated to drug and alcohol abuse. A second type is represented by adolescents in three situations: the severely abused child, the severely mentally ill child, and the dangerously antisocial child. To kill own children is a form of parricide as well, and there are differences between the psychiatric profiles of neonaticide, infanticide and filicide committers. Femicide is the murder of women committed by men on grounds of gender, and legally constitutes parricide. The most frequent is the intimate femicide, and it is associated with prior violence and drug and alcohol abuse. Parricide, even though it is an infrequent event, it is an important fact between psychiatric patients, being, in consequence, very relevant for the psychiatrist and mental health workers, the knowledge of this issue.

ABSTRACT

The authors propose to rethink the validity of Freud’s ideas about the importance of the analyst’s unconscious and, after all, his personal analysis on the psychoanalytical process. Facing this premise, they focus on the tanatic consequences of their work, when it doesn’t happen on the analyst the acquisition of a “certain psychological condition in a high degree”. They take as a target the symbolic happening of the child’s murder. Postulate that the destination of all transference, that is perpetuated by the rejection of the analyst’s feminine, will determinate the murder of the analysand autonomy. Therefore, they enforce the endless character of every analysis and the importance that every analyst doesn’t live with the narcissic injury of his desire and/or the need to go back to the couch.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Filicide is the extreme domestic violence against the child. To study the subject and draw attention to its importance, the authors present the description of a forensic-psychiatric investigation that was performed at Instituto Psiquiátrico Forense Dr. Maurício Cardoso, in Porto Alegre, Brazil. This investigation refers to a double filicide followed by a suicide attempt. The legal context and a literature review on the subject are briefly presented in this work. The role of severe mental disease is stressed as a factor associated with certain cases of filicide behavior. The authors report the importance of early diagnosis and the need to implement appropriate treatment. Attention by mental health professionals is necessary to identify likely cases of violence against the child, since these cases are known to be underreported.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The main objective of this work is to analyse the histories of filicidal women who are unimputable due to mental illness, and also to determine if there is a characterization in this group of women, if there is a meaning to the act, and if it fits in personal and family histories. Methods: This is a qualitative investigation by means of semi-structured interviews of filicidal women in the unimputables’ program of the Ministry of Social Protection in Colombia. Eight cases are analysed from 1997 to 2003. Personal interviews, audio taping and further categorisation by deductive and inductive methods was performed. Cases are shown with clinical vignettes, general data and qualitative analysis. Imputable women or cases not yet judged were excluded. The women signed an informed consent form, and data was kept confidential and will not be used in the legal process. Results: This sample was characterized by adult age (mean 26.5 years), low education level, dependence on a masculine figure, devaluation of the feminine role, history of childhood abuse, and death or absence of one or both parents. Two multiple filicide cases are shown and one case of neonaticide; child characteristics vary from wanted to unwanted pregnancies, and from only child to children with siblings. Victims are of both genders equally. Conclusion: There is not an only profile of mother, child, or type of crime.

ABSTRACT

Infanticide has been classified into two groups-neonaticide and filicide. A case study of filicide had been demonstrated by psychotic woman in Suratthani. She was investigated as throwing her own baby from the window. The psychological test revealed that she was thought – disordered and withdrawal. She also had an evidence to make an attempt on her first baby.
