ABSTRACT

Biochemistry is a very important basic course for biology and medical disciplines, and it is one of the most rapidly developing and dynamic disciplines since the 21st century. Since theoretical teaching of biochemistry is very abstract, experiment teaching is an important part of understanding relevant theories and mastering practical skills. In the process of experiment teaching, it is always a key concern for teachers to keep abreast of new teaching concepts, new teaching methods, new teaching hotspots, and keep up with teaching trends. To this end, in this paper, the annual number of published papers, periodical distribution, research keywords, current status of research, hotspots and development trends of biochemical experiment teaching and research in China from 2011. 1. 1 to 2020. 12. 31 were visualized and analyzed by using CiteSpace with China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) as the data source. It was found that the number of articles published in each year remained basically stable, and the high frequency words were " biochemistry", " experimental teaching", " teaching reform", " biochemistry experiment", " reform", " teaching method", " innovation ability" and " teaching mode". The words with higher intensity are " flipped classroom" and " microlearning". Through timeline analysis, we found that the identities of " teaching" and " learning" are being exchanged, and improving students' independent learning ability has become the mainstream. The teaching mode combining advanced technology such as " virtual simulation" and " online teaching" has become the development trend and frontier of biochemistry experiment teaching. This paper aims to provide reference for the sustainable development of biochemistry experiment teaching in China through the above analysis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To assess the academic influence of schistosomiasis control and research institutions in China. Meth-ods The papers (including original articles and reviews) pertaining to schistosomiasis in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)of Web of Science(WOS)during the period from 2002 to 2012 were searched. The number of published papers,h index and citation frequencies of the papers of Chinese institutes and authors were analyzed by a bibliometric method, and the academic influences of the institutes and authors were assessed according to the number of published papers and h index. In addition, the scientific knowledge network map was plotted by using the CiteSpace II software to analyze the inter-institution academic collabora-tion network. Results From 2002 to 2012,totally 610 papers pertaining to schistosomiasis were published by Chinese scholars, accounted for 16.7%of the published papers in global, and the quantity increased year by year. The number of published papers and h index of the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases(NIPD),China Center for Disease Control and Prevention(China CDC) were 114 and 27,respectively,both of which were ranked at the first position among all the Chinese institutes, and in the academ-ic collaboration network, the NIPD played a central and dominate part. Xiao-Nong Zhou with the h index of 17 became the out-standing academic leader in the research field of schistosomiasis control. Conclusions Both number of published papers in SCIE and h index of the Chinese institutes for schistosomiasis control are far inferior to the leading institutions in the world. It suggests that when strengthening the research and control of schistosomiasis,we should pay an attention to the output and sharing of the control experience and achievements.

ABSTRACT

The global resurgence of interest in the social determinants of health provides an opportunity for determined action on unacceptable and unjust health inequalities that exist within and between countries. This paper reviews three categories of social inclusion policies: cash-transfers; free social services; and specific institutional arrangements for programme integration in six selected countries—Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe. The policies were appraised as part of the Social Exclusion Knowledge Network (SEKN) set up under the auspices of the World Health Organization’s Commission on Social Determinants of Health. The paper highlights the development landscape in sub-Saharan Africa and presents available indicators of the scale of inequity in the six countries. A summary of the policies appraised is presented, including whether or what the impact of these policies has been on health inequalities. Crosscutting benefits include poverty alleviation, notably among vulnerable children and youths, improved economic opportunities for disadvantaged households, reduction in access barriers to social services, and improved nutrition intake. The impact of these benefits, and hence the policies, on health status can only be inferred. Among the policies reviewed, weaknesses or constraints were in design and implementation. The policy design weaknesses include targeting criteria, their enforcement and latent costs, inadequate participation of the community and failure to take the cultural context into account. A major weakness of most policies was the lack of a monitoring and evaluation system, with clear indicators that incorporate system responsiveness. The policy implementation weaknesses include uneven regional implementation with rural areas worst affected; inadequate or poor administrative and implementation capacity; insufficient resources; problems of fraud and corruption; and lack of involvement of civil servants, exacerbating implementation capacity problems. The key messages to sub-Saharan African governments include: health inequalities must be measured; social policies must be carefully designed and effectively implemented addressing the constraints identified; monitoring and evaluation systems need improvement; and participation of the community needs to be encouraged through conducive and enabling environments. There is a need for a strong movement by civil society to address health inequalities and to hold governments accountable for improved health and reduced health inequalities.
