ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Background Bietti crystalline dystrophy (BCD) is a congenital and autosomal recessive hereditary eye disease characterized by multiple glistening intraretinal crystals scattered over the fundus.Studies determined abnormality of fatty acid metabolism probably is associated with BCD.However, the study on the alteration of blood lipid level in BCD patients is rare. Objective This trail was to study the change of serum lipids in BCD patients. Methods A total of 50 patients with bilateral BCD and 50 matched healthy volunteers were included from November 2011 to March 2013 in Beijing Tongren Eye Center with the approval of Ethic Committee of Beijing Tongren Hospital.Written informed consent was obtained from each subject before any medial examination.Peripheral blood of 3 ml was collected from the subjects. The serum concentrations of triglyceride (TG),total cholesterol (TC),low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were measured and analyzed. The examination outcome was identified based on the criteria of China Adult Dyslipidemia Prevention Guideline (Version 2007).Results Abnormality of serum lipid content was detected in 58.00% patients (29/50),and hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesteremia were in 34.48% (10/29),respectively,and mixed hyperlipidaemia was in 27.59 % (8/29).The serum levels of TG,TC and LDL-C were (1.63± 1.19) mmol/L,(5.10±1.05) mmol/L and (3.27±0.97) mmol/L in the BCD group, which were significantly higher than (0.93± 0.33) mmol/L,(4.33 ±0.56) mmol/L,(2.63 ±0.51) mmol/L of the normal group (t =4.036,4.496,4.095,all at P=0.000).Conclusions The serum lipid levels elevate in BCD patients, which might be related to the occurrence of BCD.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the lipid metabolism in patients with hypertension and obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome. Methods A total of 896 patients (655 cases of male; 241 cases of female) was recruited who were hospitalized in our department, and were classified into four groups based on the finding of polysomnography (PSG):hypertensive without obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAS) (n =243),hypertensive with mild OSAS (n =245),hypertensive with moderate OSAS (n =195),and hypertensive with severe OSAS (n =213).Multiple indices including apnea-hypopnea index (AHI),lowest arterial oxygen saturation(lowest SaO2),body mass index (BMI),blood pressure, total cholesterol (TC),high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C),low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC),triglycerides (TG),fasting blood glucose(FBG),uric acid (UA),and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP) were assessed, and the relevant risk factors of lipid metabolism were analyzed. Results (1)Male patients had more opportunities to suffer OSAS than female (P <0.01).Compared with the group without hypertensive, patients in severe OSAS group had higher levels of AGE (48.09 ± 9.48,BMI (29.46 ±3.83),AHI[45.90(37.55,63.65)],MSpO2 (89.08 ±4.93),LSpO2 (67.36 ± 12.60),TC (4.68 ±1.00),TG[2.03(1.54,2.88)],UA (371.85 ±99.29),and hs-CRP[1.43(0.82,3.056)] (P <0.05),and had lower levels of HDL-C (1.09 ± 0.28).(2) Two and more than two lipids abnormal metabolic indices increased prevalence with the increase of the severity of OSAS.(3)The prevalence of high TG,high TC in AHI ≥ 15/h was significantly higher than AHI < 15 group.(4) After adjustment for BMI,gender, age and other common risk factors,it confirmed that AHI was still related to lipid metabolism.AHI was an independent risk factor for abnormal lipid metabolism. Conclusions AHI was an independent risk factor for abnormal lipid metabolism. With increasing severity of OSAS,the levels TC,TG,and the category of abnormal lipid metabolism were also increased.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) within the Uyghur people with abnormal glucose metabolism in Xinjiang province according to three different diagnostic criteria and effects of accumulation of MS components on blood lipid profile. Methods Components of MS and blood lipid profile were observed with 666 Uyghur people with abnormal glucose metabolism after cluster randomized sampling method for selecting in Xinjiang province, and analyzed with the recommended diagnostic criteria by the National Cholesterol Education Program-Adult treatment Panel Ⅲ(NCEP-ATP Ⅲ,2001),the Chinese Diabetes Society under Chinese Medical Association (CDS,2004) and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF,2005).Results Prevalence of MS was 21.92% (14.67%),23.72% (15.88%),57.51% (38.48%) with the criteria by NCEP-ATPⅢ,CDS,and IDF,respectively.IDF was the best among three criteria. The most combination was the abnormal glucose metabolism, dyslipidemia and obesity. In the ATPⅢ (2001),with the increase of number of components of metabolic syndrome, highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) drop, low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) increased; there was not significant difference in the CDS.Conclusions The incidence of MS was high in the Uyghur people with abnormal glucose metabolism in Xinjiang province. Most of them complicated with dyslipidemia. One of common components of MS included the elevated triglycerides, decreased HDL-C,and increased size of LDL-C particles, which could easily cause cardiovascular disease.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effects of aminoguanidine and Vitamin C on lipid of streptozotocin-induced didbetic rats. Methods Diabetic nephropathy rats were induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin.Fifty Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats were randomly divided into normal control group, model group,Vitamin C group, aminoguanidine group and Vitamin C associated with aminoguanidine group. All the rats were treated for 16 weeks.During and after the treatment, the general state of the rats was observed and the levels of blood sugar, triglyceride, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, high density lipoprotein, glycosylated hemoglobin, and glycated low density lipoprotein in different groups were detected. Results The rats in the four groups suffered diabetes mellitus and renal function lesion.Aminoguanidine and Vitamin C could improve the general state of the rats, but had no effect on the blood sugar.Vitamin C could decrease the levels of triglyceride, serum cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, glycosylated hemoglobin, and glycated low density lipoprotein, and increase the level of high density lipoprotein. There was a synergistic effect with the combination of the two drugs. Conclusion Aminoguanidine and Vitamin C have no effect in the decrease of blood sugar level but have a certain effect on regulating blood lipid. There is a synergistic effect with the combination of the two drugs.
