ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the characteristics of prescription about Lingnan Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) masters for Biqiu treatment based on data mining, so as to provide reference for the clinical practice and patent drug research and development of rhinorrhea in Lingnan district. Methods:By searching journal documents and medical records in CNKI, VIP, Wanfang, Chinese BioMedical Database (SinoMed) and Duxiu Data Retrieval Platform, we selected the articles and famous TCM medical records that met the criteria on the TCM medical rules of treating Biqiu. We screened database in strict accordance with inclusion and exclusion criteria and extracted prescription information from medical cases. The software Ancient and Modern Consilia Cloud Platform (V 1.5) was used for data mining analysis and medical case standardization, and SPSS Clementine 12.0 software were used to conduct frequency statistics, association analysis and cluster analysis of drugs in medical cases. Results:A total of 31 articles and 42 medical cases including 73 prescriptions were screened. The frequency results showed that there were 40 kinds of high frequency TCMs (frequency more than 5), mainly including drugs for benefiting the qi and strengthening the spleen, medicine to relieve cold and promote nasal passages, which was the same as the frequency statistics of the effects of herbal medicine. Seven drug groups were obtained by cluster analysis. The results of rule analysis showed that 16 association rules for drug pairs and 18 association rules for 3 TCMs pairs were obtained. Conclusions:While treating allergic rhinitis, Lingnan medical doctors focus on tonifying spleen qi, dispersing wind and cold, and promoting the nasal passages, which reflect the treatment theory of cultivating earth and generating gold, and attacking and tonifying. Lingnan medical doctors commonly used Guangdong medicinal herbs, which have distinct regional characteristics. The data mining methods can comprehensively summarize and explore the potential rules of Lingnan prominent practitioners' treatment of allergic rhinitis, and provide reference for guiding the treatment of congested nose and congested nose in TCM.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the somatotype characteristics of Dong adults in rural areas of Hu'nan province. Methods The Heath-Carter somatotyping method was used to study the somatotype of 749 adults (304 males and 445 females) of Dong in the rural areas of Hu'nan. Results The mean somatotype in males of Dong was endomorph- mesomorph category (4.83-4.95-1.80) and was mesomorphic endomorph category (6.09-4.68-1.37) in females. With their age increasing, the values of endomorphy decreases gradually in males, the values of endomorphy of females and mesomorphy of males and females increased at first and then decreased gradually, the values of ectomorphy of males and females decreased at first and then increased. The values of endomorphy of males were significantly lower than those of females with the same age groups, and the values of mesomorphy and the values of ectomorphy of males were significantly higher than those of females in some age groups. Compared with other ethnic groups, the values of endomorphy of Dong were larger, the values of mesomorphy were smaller, and the values of ectomorphy were in a middle level. Conclusion Adults of Dong in Hu'nan have thick subcutaneous fat, underdeveloped skeletal and muscular systems, and medium linearity. The somatotype of Dong adults in Hu'nan is close to that of Jiangsu Han, Fujian Han and Liaoning Han.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Schisandra sphenanthera and S. chinensis are the two important medicinal plants that have long been used under the names of “Nan-Wuweizi” and “Wuweizi”, respectively. The misuse of “Nan-Wuweizi” and “Wuweizi” in herbal medical products calls for an accurate method to distinguish these herbs. Chloroplast (cp) genomes have been widely used in species delimitation and phylogeny due to their uniparental inheritance and lower substitution rates than that of the nuclear genomes. To develop more efficient DNA markers for distinguishing S. sphenanthera, S. chinensis, and the related species, we sequenced the cp genome of S. sphenanthera and compared it to that of S. chinensis. Methods: The cp genome of S. sphenanthera was sequenced at the Illumina HiSeq platform, and the reference-guided mapping of contigs was obtained with a de novo assembly procedure. Then, comparative analyses of the cp genomes of S. sphenanthera and S. chinensis were carried out. Results: The cp genome of S. sphenanthera was 146 853 bp in length and consisted of a large single copy (LSC) region of 95 627 bp, a small single copy (SSC) region of 18 292 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats (IR) of 16 467 bp. GC content was 39.6%. A total of 126 functional genes were predicted, of which 113 genes were unique, including 79 protein-coding genes, 30 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and four ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. Five tRNA, four protein-coding genes, and all rRNA were duplicated in the IR regions. There were 18 intron-containing genes, including six tRNA genes and 12 protein-coding genes. In addition, 45 SSRs were detected. The whole cp genome of S. sphenanthera was 123 bp longer than that of S. chinensis. A total of 474 SNPs and 97 InDels were identified. Five genetic regions with high levels of variation (Pi > 0.015), trnS-trnG, ccsA-ndhD, psbI-trnS, trnT-psbD and ndhF-rpl32 were revealed. Conclusion: We reported the cp genome of S. sphenanthera and revealed the SNPs and InDels between the cp genomes of S. sphenanthera and S. chinensis. This study shed light on the species identification and further phylogenetic study within the genus of Schisandra.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Taking Henan province as an example, the index system of rural hollowing was constructed from three aspects of economy, population and land. Using the entropy weight method, hollowing index method, spatial autocorrelation analysis and Geo detector, spatial-temporal evolution characteristics and influencing factors of county rural hollowing from 2000 to 2013 in Henan province were analyzed. Results showed that the gap of rural hollowing between counties in Henan province expanded first and then decrease, and the whole province was at the middle level of rural hollowing, so the development of rural hollowing in Henan province was stable and positive. Spatial variation characteristics of different degrees rural hollowing during 2000-2013 were obvious, and the overall spatial pattern was higher in the northwest-southeast direction and lower in the northeast-southwest direction. There was a strong spatial positive correlation in rural hollowing, and spatial agglomeration was slightly weakened; the number of counties in H-H and L-L agglomeration areas was large and its agglomeration characteristics were obvious; the H-L agglomeration areas started from zero with a small number and scattered distribution. Influence of different factors on rural hollowing was quite different, and the per capita homestead area, the proportion of secondary and tertiary industries, the investment in fixed assets and the per capita net income of farmers were the dominant factors.

ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the relationships between qi-arrival and mind-control, qi-arrival and qi-regulation, and to define qi-arrival by tracing the relevant records in Nei Jing (Classic of Internal Medicine) and Nan Jing (Classic of Difficult Issues). Method Thirty-seven relevant ancient books of the two classics were reviewed and the notes by WANG Bing, MA Shi, and YANG Shang-shan were referred. Result Mind-control requires the spirits of the practitioner, patient and environment, as well as observing and waiting for the arrival of qi. Regarding qi-regulation, theories involve that qi-arrival achieves same reinforcing and reducing effect as qi-regulation, qi-regulation is elucidated from the correct location of acupoint, proper needling depth and direction, and to regulate qi by observing the arrival of qi. Besides, the changes of internal and external environments also influence qi-arrival via qi-regulation and mind-control. Conclusion Qi-arrival is closely related to mind-control and qi-regulation in obtaining, differentiation, and adjustment. Mind-control and qi-regulation assist each other through the whole acupuncture process, which is the core of qi-arrival.

ABSTRACT

This study was aimed to investigate the effect of Nan-She-Teng (Celastrus orbiculatus) extract on epithe-lial-mesenchymal transition(EMT) in HepG2 cells. Except the control group, human hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cells in other groups were treated with Celastrus Orbiculatus extract in different concentrations (10, 20, 40, 80, and 160 μg·mL-1). The protein expression levels related to EMT were detected by western blotting. At 48 h after fertiliza-tion, the zebrafish embryos were randomly assigned to 7 groups as follows: untreated control group (E3 buffer), DMSO group (E3 buffer with 1% DMSO), and different dosages treatment of C.orbiculatus extract (10, 20, 40, 80, and 160μg·mL-1) for 24 h. The protein expressions of mTOR signaling pathways were detected by western blotting. The re-sults showed that compared with the control group, C.orbiculatus extract significantly increased E-cadherin protein expression. Simultaneously, C.orbiculatus extract inhibited vimentin and mTOR signaling pathways at protein levels. It was concluded that to a certain extent, C.orbiculatus extract prevented EMT in HepG2 cells by modulating the mTOR signaling pathway. Therefore, it suggested that mTOR can be chosen as a new therapeutic target for clinical treatment of hepatic carcinoma.

ABSTRACT

[Objective]Although “If it is not thriving but it is surviving, maintain it with Sutra ”is considered the most important treatment principle in acupuncture, its interpretation is confusing and inconsistent. Thus, in order to clarify this principle, we examined its original meaning and report the results here.<BR>[Method]After investigating the source of “If it is not thriving but it is surviving, maintain it with Sutra ”within the “Huang-di nei-jing”(traditional Chinese medical text) and revealing the state of past research regarding this principle and its associated problems, we identified its background and used the “Zhangjiashan Han bamboo text Maishu”and “Dashu ,”which are only quoted in the “Jin fu” chapter of the Huangdi Neijing-Lingshu (the Yellow Emperor’s Canon), to trace a path back to the roots of “If it is not thriving but it is surviving, maintain it with Sutra ”and to elucidate its original meaning.<BR>[Results]We were able to confirm that although there have heretofore been a total of four theories and 13opinions, none have been rationally interpreted. <BR>[Conclusion]The facts that 1. “If it is not thriving but it is surviving, maintain it with Sutra”is based on a method of diagnosing pulses across the entire body, 2. the interpretation of the “Jin fu”chapter of the Huangdi Neijing-Lingshu contradicts the “Dashu ,”which is quoted in this text, and 3. the statement in the “Zhangjiashan Han bamboo text Maishu”that “when it is calm, then maintain it ”is the original form of “If it is not thriving but it is surviving, maintain it with Sutra ,”suggest that the original meaning of “If it is not thriving but it is surviving, maintain it with Sutra ”was likely that in cases where the form and rhythm of a pulse were normal, it should not be treated but instead addressed as usual.

ABSTRACT

In oriental medicine, we consider the living body to be a microcosm and understand it as a general complex of systems. The rhythm of the five basic elements in the living body controls these complex systems and maintains the whole by adding restrictions to chaos. Therefore, when distortion of the five basic elements occurs, the living body develops disease. Under these conditions, the first, 69th chapter of “Nan Ching” describes the therapy principle useing the mother and child relationship of the creative cycle in the five basic elements, and the second describes the therapy principle of individual meridian diseases. Accordingly, we developed a therapy model for deficiency-pathogen, excess-pathogen and original-pathogen and tried to interpret the 69th chapter.<BR>The results showed that there is no distortion in relationship of the destructive becoming successful condition of therapy in these models. In addition, it was thought that the original-pathogen is the therapy principle of individual meridian diseases, and these changes suggested the formation of assumptions regarding tonification and sedation therapy for deficiency-pathogen and excess-pathogen. These results suggest that the 69th chapter is a therapy principle based on the relationship of the creative cycle through the whole organism.
