ABSTRACT

Metastases Pilomatrix carcinoma is a rare locally aggressive hair-follicle tumor. We report a 54-year-old man who presented with a tumor in the left flank that was found by skin biopsy to be pilomatrix carcinoma. A contrast-enhanced computed tomographic scan of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis showed multiple small nodules in both lungs and lymphadenopathy in the abdomen. Video-assisted thoracoscopic biopsy of the lung lesions was consistent with metastatic pilomatrix carcinoma. After intravenous cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil, the skin, lung, and lymph node lesions shrank

ABSTRACT

Pilomatrix carcinoma, the malignant counterpart of pilomatrixoma, is very rare. The tumor is locally aggressive with a great tendency for recurrence, but the metastatic potential is limited. Here we present a case report of pilomatrix carcinoma from left flank region with lung and lymph node metastasisn in 53-year-old male. Histologically, it has nuclear pleomorphism and blood vessel infiltration in contrast to pilomatrixoma. Both skin and lung lesions have been improved by 6 cycles of systemic chemotherapy with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil.

ABSTRACT

Pilomatrix carcinoma is a rare malignant neoplasm. It can develop de novo or by a malignant transformation from an existing pilomatricoma. Clinically, it presents as an asymptomatic, variable sized, firm, deep seated nodule on the posterior neck and upper back of middle-aged men. Histologically, it has features of pilomatricoma as well as nuclear atypia and more numerous mitoses. It is a locally aggressive tumor that has a tendency to recur. We report a case of pilomatrix carcinoma in 46-year-old woman who presented a 1.5 X 1cm sized, hard and movable nodule on her neck for 1 month.
