ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of thread embedding at Back-Shu points in treating stroke-associated pneumonia.Method Seventy patients with stroke-associated pneumonia were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 35 cases in each group. The control group was intervened by regular medications, while the treatment group was additionally intervened by thread embedding at the Back-Shu points. Before and after the intervention, C-reactive protein (CRP), white blood cell (WBC), neutrophil ratio (NE%), and symptoms and signs scores were observed, and the clinical efficacies were compared between the two groups.Result The CRP, WBC, NE%, and symptoms and signs scores were significantly changed after intervention in both groups (P<0.05). After intervention, the CRP, WBC, NE%, and symptoms and signs scores in the treatment group were significantly different from that in the control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate was 91.4% in the treatment group, versus 82.9% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion Thread embedding at the Back-Shu points can promote the treatment of stroke-associated pneumonia.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effect of digital acupressure plus mechanical sputum expectoration on the rehabilitation of patients with stroke-associated pneumonia. Method Forty-six patients with stroke-associated pneumonia were randomized into a treatment group of 22 cases and a control group of 24 cases. The treatment group was intervened by digital acupressure plus mechanical sputum expectoration, while the control group was by mechanical sputum expectoration alone. The simplified version of Clinical Pulmonary Infection Score (CPIS), Fugl-Meyer assessment scale, and modified Barthel Index (BI) were adopted for evaluation before and after intervention. Result After treatment, CPIS, Fugl-Meyer and BI scores were changed significantly in both groups (P<0.01). There were significant differences in comparing the CPIS, Fugl-Meyer and BI scores between the two groups after intervention (P<0.05). After intervention, the two groups showed a negative correlation between CPIS score and Fugl-Meyer score, as well as between CPIS score and BI score. Conclusion Digital acupressure plus mechanical sputum expectoration can effectively improve the pulmonary symptoms in patients with stroke-associated pneumonia, benefiting the rehabilitation of the post-stroke patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the pathogens distribution and drug resistance in acute stroke with stroke associated pneumonia (SAP) patients, and provide references for proper clinical application of antibiotics. Methods A retrospective investigation was performed to analyze the pathogens and the drug resistance of 131 acute stroke with SAP patients. Results Among 148 strains of isolated pathogens, the Gram-negative bacteria accounted for 66.22% (98/148),including Klebsiella pneumoniae,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Escherichia coli,Acinetobacter baumannii,Enterobacter cloacae and so on.Gram-positive bacteria accounted for 26.35% (38/148).Staphylococcus aureus ranked the first, followed by Coagulase negative staphylococcus and Enterococcus faecalis.Fungi accounted for 7.43% (12/148),mainly including Candida albicans. They had varying degrees of resistance to commonly used antibiotics. Conclusions Gram-negative bacteria are predominant in SAP.Drug resistance is very serious, and the antibiotics should be selected in clinic according to the result of drug susceptibility test.
