ABSTRACT

Background: Trauma induced by endoscopic surgery may inhibit erythrocyte immune function and activate inflammatory responses, however, there are certain differences between different surgical methods. Aims: To investigate the effect of endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) on erythrocyte immune function and inflammatory cytokines in patients with gastrointestinal polyps. Methods: A total of 315 patients with gastrointestinal polyps in Meishan People's Hospital from Jan. 2011 to Dec. 2016 were collected and randomly allocated into EMR group (n=160) and control group (n=155), and underwent EMR and routine endoscopic electrocoagulation resection, respectively. The resection rate, postoperative erythrocyte immune function, including peripheral blood red-cell membrane complement 3b receptor rosette (C3bRR), immune complex rosette (ICR), CD58 and CD59, as well as serum inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-6, IL-8 and IL-12 were compared between the two groups. Results: All gastrointestinal polyps were removed successfully in both groups. Less intraoperative complications were observed in EMR group than in control group (3.1% vs. 20.0%, P<0.05). The postoperative levels of C3bRR, CD58 and CD59 on red-cell membrane in EMR group were significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.05), while the postoperative levels of ICR, and serum IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8 and IL-12 were significantly lower in EMR group than in control group (P<0.05). Conclusions: EMR is effective for treatment of gastrointestinal polyps with lower intraoperative complications. Furthermore, it may protect the erythrocyte immune function and suppress the inflammatory responses caused by surgery.

ABSTRACT

Eccrine spiradenoma is a rare adnexal tumor of the skin and its cytomorphology has seldom been described in literature. To evaluate the cytologic features and diagnostic pitfalls of eccrine spiradenoma, we report a case of 33-year-old male whose clinical presentation was a painful subcutaneous mass at the right preauricular area. Fine needle aspirates revealed tight clusters of multilayered, uniform, cuboidal cells arranged around hyalinized perivascular spaces. Some epithelial cells showed tubules or rosette formations. The background showed scattered, naked nuclei. The histologic findings confirmed the eccrine spiradenoma. The recognition of peculiar cytologic features and clinical correlation could be helpful in the diagnosis of skin adnexal tumors.

ABSTRACT

Using complement coated Baker's yeast as a ligand to identify complement -receptor bearing cells and E-rosette forming technique, a combined E and YC rosette formation test was established. This technique is a simple useful method to detect E~+, YC~+ and D cells, and also monocytes or phagocytes simutaneously in a single test. The application of this technique to 81 adult peripheral blood and 13 cord blood samples demonstrated that a mean of 61.9 per 100 lymphocytes ( ?10.9) formed E-rosettes, 8.2 ?3.4% formed YC-rosettes and 1.07?1.27% was D cells. The application to immunological classification of the perpheral blood lymphocytes of 12 patients with acute lymphocytic leukemia disclosed a case of B-cell lymphosarcoma-leukemia, a case of T cell leukemia, 4 cases of non-E~+ non-YC~+ lymphocytic leukemia and a case of mixed T cell-non-T non-B lymphocytic leukemia. The other 5 cases appeared to have malignant cells with different markers and need further studies.

ABSTRACT

The concentration of the cyclic nucleotides and its relation with the E-RFC were determined by using ginseng rhizome saponin in human peripharal leukocytes.Result were compared with the ckange of the E-RFC by using cAMP.cGMP and theophylline. Experiments proved that girseng rhizome saponin mainly affected the lymphocytes and significantly increased the concentration of cAMP and cGMP,especially, the cAMP. Lymphocytes were incubated with ginseng rhizome saponin to form Et-RFC. It is different where lymphocytes were incubated in diffierent times. cAMP and theophylline reduced the Ea-RFC and Et-RFC, cGMP increased the Ea— RFC,but no effect to the Et-RFC. Ginseng rhizome or root saponin could promote the Ea-RFC,but inhibited the Et-RFC. It is consistent with the effect of both cAMP and cGMP. Experiments showed that ginseng rhizome saponin increased the concentration of cAMP and cGMP in human lyphocytes followed by that of E-RFC.It was suggested that the change of cyclic nucleotides in lymphocytes may be a mechanism of adjusting the immunity on cell level.
