ABSTRACT

Introducción: El aumento de los conocimientos científicos y sus aplicaciones tecnológicas repercuten en un conjunto de esferas de la vida, particularmente la educativa. Objetivo: Analizar las principales tendencias de la formación pedagógica y científico- investigativa en los profesionales de enfermería y tecnología de la salud. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio educativo, descriptivo, de corte longitudinal y prospectivo, que incluyó a 45 docentes de la Facultad de Enfermería-Tecnología de la Salud de Santiago de Cuba vinculados al proceso docente-educativo, desde septiembre del 2021 hasta julio del 2022, para lo cual se utilizaron métodos teóricos y prácticos. Resultados: En la serie predominaron los docentes formados en el sector de la salud (93,3 %) en relación con los graduados por el Ministerio de Educación Superior (6,7 %). Todos habían recibido preparación pedagógica y científico-investigativa, pero consideraban que aún era insuficiente su arsenal pedagógico. Conclusiones: La integración de la docencia con la asistencia y la investigación fue la tendencia más evidente en los integrantes de la casuística.


Introduction: The increase in scientific knowledge and its technological implementations has an effect on a group of spheres of life, particularly education. Objective: To analyze the main tendencies of the pedagogic and scientific - investigative training in nursing and health technology professionals. Methods: An educational, descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study was carried out that included 45 professors from the Health Nursing-Technology Faculty of Santiago de Cuba, linked to the teaching educational process from September, 2021 to July, 2022, for which theoretical and practical methods were used. Results: In the series, there was a prevalence of the professors trained in the health sector (93.3%) in connection with those graduated from the Ministry of Higher Education (6.7%). All of them had received pedagogic and scientific-investigative training, but they considered that their pedagogical arsenal was still insufficient. Conclusions: The integration of teaching with attendance and research was the most evident tendency in members of the case material.

Introducción: A la Universidad del siglo XXI le corresponde ser consecuente con los procesos derivados del desarrollo social, lo cual debe ser atendido desde la formación de posgrado. A tales efectos, se diseñó y ejecutó una estrategia de superación en la Facultad de Tecnología de la Salud de La Habana, según las necesidades de aprendizaje de los profesionales. Objetivo: Describir los principales resultados de la generalización de la escalera de superación académica con enfoque interdisciplinario. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, longitudinal y retrospectivo, en el periodo 2017-2022, en la Facultad de Tecnología de la Salud de La Habana. Las 5 variables identificadas fueron la superación por tipo de actividad de posgrado según año, los artículos científicos publicados por año en la Revista Cubana de Tecnología de la Salud, la formación de doctores en educación médica, los doctores en educación médica graduados según universidades y centros de salud, así como la promoción de profesores a la categoría docente superior. Resultados: Se apreció un incremento de las formas de superación desarrolladas. En el 2019 la cifra de autores y coautores con publicaciones en la revista de la Facultad ascendió a 219; asimismo, en la formación de grado científico hubo considerables resultados, tanto en profesores como en otros profesionales de la salud, y aumentó el número de docentes que ascendieron a la categoría superior. Conclusiones: Como resultado de la superación académica escalonada se destacó la elaboración de 5 maestrías para el área de las tecnologías de la salud y se apreció un incremento sostenido en la promoción de profesionales de la educación médica a categorías docentes superiores.


Introduction: The University of the XXI century is in charge of being consequent with the processes derived from the social development, which should be assisted from the posdegree education. To such effects, a training strategy was designed and implemented in the Health Technology Faculty of Havana city, according to the learning necessities of professionals. Objective: To describe the main results of generalization of the academic training steps with interdisciplinary approach. Methods: A descriptive, longitudinal and retrospective study was carried out in 2017-2022 in the Health Technology Faculty of Havana city. The 5 variables identified were training by type of posdegree activity according to year, the scientific works published per year in the Cuban Journal of Health Technology, training of doctors in Medical Education, doctors in Medical Education graduated according to universities and health centers, as well as the promotion of professors to the superior teaching category. Results: An increment in the developed ways of training was appreciated. In 2019, the number of authors and joint authors with publications in the Faculty's journal has reached 219; also, there were considerable results in the scientific degree education, either in professors or in other health professionals, and there was a higher number of professors that reached the superior category. Conclusions: As a result of the staged academic training, the elaboration of 5 masters՚ degree for health technologies area was notable and a sustained increment was appreciated in the promotion of professionals from the medical education to superior educational categories.

Introducción: El profesor, docente o enseñante es quien se dedica profesionalmente a la enseñanza y, además, a la transmisión de valores de conducta, técnicas y conocimientos; facilita el aprendizaje para que el alumno lo alcance de la mejor manera posible. Objetivo: Describir las características fundamentales de las funciones y el trabajo de profesores consultantes. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo en la Clínica Estomatológica Provincial Docente Mártires del Moncada de Santiago de Cuba, durante diciembre de 2018, cuyo universo estuvo formado por los 29 profesores consultantes, adjuntos a la Facultad de Estomatología hasta ese año. Como variables de interés se consideraron la edad, el sexo, la especialidad, la categoría docente y su año de otorgamiento, así como los grados académico y científico. Resultados: Los años con mayor asignación de profesores titulares y auxiliares fueron 1998 y 2009, respectivamente. En general, la mayoría de los docentes correspondieron al grupo etario de 65-70 años y al sexo femenino, en tanto la categoría de profesor auxiliar la ostentaban 82,8 % y la de titular 17,2 %. En cuanto al grado académico, el mayor número de profesores titulares y auxiliares eran especialistas de segundo grado, muy pocos de los docentes titulares habían cursado maestrías y ninguno de los profesores auxiliares había optado por el doctorado. Conclusiones: La condición especial de profesor consultante representa y continúa siendo un reconocimiento a la labor académica desplegada en la asesoría de las tareas docentes, asistenciales e investigativas durante la vida profesional.


Introduction: The professor, teaching staff or teacher is the one professionally devoted to teaching and, also, to the transmission of behavior values, techniques and knowledge; that facilitates learning so that the student reaches it in the best possible way. Objective: To describe the fundamental characteristics of consultant professors functions and work. Methods: A descriptive study was carried out in Mártires del Moncada Teaching Provincial Stomatologic Clinic in Santiago de Cuba, during December, 2018, which universe was formed by the 29 consultant professors, associated to the Stomatology Faculty until that year. The age, sex, specialty, teaching category and granting year were considered as variables of interest, as well as the academic and scientific degrees. Results: The years with more assignment of associate or instructor professors were 1998 and 2009, respectively. In general, most of the teaching staff corresponded to the 65-70 age group and the female sex, as long as instructor professor category constituted the 82.8 % and associate professor 17.2 %. As for the academic degree, the highest number of associate and instructor professors was second degree specialists, very few of the associate professors had studied masters degrees and none of the instructor professors had applied for the doctorate. Conclusions: The special condition of consultant professor represents and still is a recognition to the academic work showed in the consultancy of the teaching, assistance and investigative tasks during the professional life.

ABSTRACT

La profesionalización en los docentes de las carreras de Enfermería y Tecnología de la Salud es el proceso de formación continua compuesto por las dimensiones docente, investigativa, asistencial, gerencial, bioética y de actuación profesional, que posibilitan la conjugación armónica entre el "saber", "saber hacer" y "saber ser". Dicha profesionalización constituye una herramienta que puede proveer un modo de hacer y un lenguaje común para el desarrollo de estos profesionales. Por ello, en el presente artículo se exponen algunos aspectos de interés sobre el tema y se ofrecen los principales resultados de una evaluación realizada a este proceso de formación.


The professionalization in the teaching staff of Nursing and Health Technology careers is the process of continuous training composed by the educational, investigative, assistance, management, bioethics and professional performance dimensions that facilitate the harmonic conjugation between "knowledge", "know how to do" and "know how to be". This professionalization constitutes a tool that can provide a way of making and a common language for the development of these professionals. That is the reason why, in this work some aspects of interest on the topic are exposed and the main results of an evaluation carried out to this training process are offered.

Introducción: La profesionalización de los docentes universitarios cobra particularmente importancia en la universidad actual. Objetivo: Diagnosticar las evidencias de las competencias profesionales de los docentes titulados en maestrías de la salud. Métodos: Se efectuó una investigación cualitativa, descriptiva y transversal, de abril a junio del 2018, de 59 docentes titulados en maestrías de la salud, pertenecientes a la Facultad de Enfermería-Tecnología de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Santiago de Cuba, a los que se les aplicó un test de autovaloración para determinar sus experiencias relacionadas con la especialidad de base y las manifestaciones de las competencias profesionales. Resultados: De las 4 competencias profesionales preestablecidas en los programas de maestrías de la salud, solo se pudo identificar la investigativa en las evidencias del desempeño. Igualmente, se observó que la mayoría de los profesores tenían más de 3 años de graduados como másteres y, por ende, se les consideró como "con experiencia" para ejercer las competencias. Conclusiones: Los docentes con diferentes especialidades de base reflejaron las dificultades que pudieran existir en su profesionalización, las que serán validadas en otra fase del estudio.


Introduction: Professionalization of the university teaching staff has particular importance in the current university. Objective: To diagnose the evidences of the professional competences of the teaching staff graduated as health masters. Methods: A qualitative, descriptive and cross-sectional investigation was carried out, from April to June, 2018, to 59 members of the teaching staff, belonging to the Nursing-Technology Faculty of the Medical Sciences University in Santiago de Cuba, to whom a self-evaluation test was applied to determine their experiences related to the main specialty and the professional competences manifestations. Results: Of the 4 preset professional competences in the health masters programs, just the investigative one could be identified in the evidences of their performance. Equally, it was observed that most of the professors had more than 3 years of graduate as masters and so, they were considered as "professionals with experience" to exercise the competences. Conclusions: The teaching staff with different main specialties showed the difficulties that could exist in their professionalization, which will be validated in another stage of the study.

ABSTRACT

Based on career cycle theory, this paper mainly discussed the training system of teachers in colleges and universities. Considering the teachers' teaching and scientific research development, tachers' career in colleges and universities can be divided into four stages: adapting transition stage, growth stage, stable contribution stage and regression stage. From the perspective of the above-mentioned analysis of the characteristics in different stages, well-directed training schemes should be set up. The practice results show that the teacher' training system has promoted the growth of teachers, strengthened the competitive power of teachers, and achieved good training results.

La consolidación del trabajo docente, asistencial, investigativo y administrativo es un elemento de vital significación en la formación profesional pedagógica, que incide en el desempeño como futuro profesional. Con este trabajo se busca analizar algunas consideraciones epistémicas para la formación profesional pedagógica de los tecnólogos de la salud; por lo que se consideran los principales conceptos y las consideraciones para el trabajo de las habilidades pedagógicas y su importancia en el tecnólogo de la salud; asimismo, se revela que se carece de una sistematización lógica que favorezca la adquisición de las herramientas para la formación profesional pedagógica en los estudiantes.


The consolidation of the teaching, assisting, investigative and administrative work is an element of vital significance in the pedagogical professional training that impacts in the acting of students as future professional. With this work it is planned to analyze some epistemic considerations for the pedagogical professional training of the health technologists; for which they are considered the main concepts and the considerations for the work of the pedagogical skills and their importance in the health technologist; also, it is revealed that there is no logical systematizing offering the obtention of tools for the pedagogical professional training in the students.

ABSTRACT

En la presente investigación se elaboró el microdiseño curricular de la unidad didáctica Metodología de la investigación educativa en salud y se evaluó la factibilidad de su aplicación en el marco de la ejecución del Diplomado en Educación Médica efectuado en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Santiago de Cuba durante el curso escolar 2016-2017, para lo cual se realizó un estudio exploratorio con el total de docentes matriculados en este. Como criterios evaluativos se emplearon las variables pertinencia y coherencia, y los datos se obtuvieron mediante el análisis documental y la encuesta. Los resultados fueron analizados a través de la frecuencia relativa. La factibilidad de aplicación de la unidad didáctica, demostrada a través de su pertinencia y coherencia, hace de esta propuesta una alternativa para el perfeccionamiento didáctico de la metodología de la investigación en salud para la formación de posgrado de dichos docentes


In this investigation the curricular microdesign of the didactic unit Methodology of the educational investigation in health was elaborated and the feasibility of its implementation was evaluated during the Certification in Medical Education that took place at the University of Medical Sciences in Santiago de Cuba during the school course 2016-2017, for which an exploratory study was carried out with all the teachers registered. The variable relevance and coherence were used as evaluative criteria, and the data were obtained by means of the documental analysis and survey. The results were analyzed through the relative frequency. The feasibility of implementation of the didactic unit, demonstrated through its relevancy and coherence, makes of this an alternative proposal for the didactic improvement of health investigation methodology in the postgraduate training of these teachers

OBJECTIVE: To study the prevalence of metabolic syndrome( MS),and disease components among teaching staffs in a traditional Chinese medicine college.METHODS: A total of 993 teaching staffs of a traditional Chinese medicine college who participated physical health examination were selected as study subjects by convenience sampling method.The detection of MS,characteristics of MS related diseases and aggregation were analyzed.RESULTS: The incidence of MS was 19.2%( 191/993).It showed a linear upward trend with the increase of age( P < 0.01).The incidence of MS in male members was obviously higher than that in female members( 28.1% vs 9.5%,P < 0.01).The risk indexes of MS in staffs,including overweight and/or obesity, hyperglycemia, hypertension, triglyceride( TG) abnormality and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol( HDL-C) abnormality were 3.44,13.61,9.94,14.72 and 12.06 times of those with normal indexes respectively.The abnormal ratio of hyperglycemia,hypertension and TG was the highest( 13.7%) in different types of MS,and the incidence of MS on staffs was the highest( odds ratio 5.86).CONCLUSION: The detection rate of MS showed an upward trend with the increase of age among teaching staffs in this traditional Chinese medicine college,and there is a gender difference.TG and HDL-C abnormality,hypertension and hyperglycemia are the key points of prevention and treatment of MS in this population.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: relacionar a qualidade de vida e o consumo alimentar de professores de rede privada. Métodos: Estudo transversal que avaliou a qualidade de vida, o consumo alimentar e a classe econômica. Resultados: Em relação à qualidade de vida dos 107 professores, 64,5% foram classificados como boa e 19,6% como muito boa, 70,1% pertencem à classe C e 64,5% mostraram consumo alimentar satisfatório. Os escores de alimentação correlacionaram-se significantemente com os domínios da qualidade de vida, físico, psicológico, social e ambiental, e com a qualidade de vida geral. Quanto maior o escore de alimentação nos quartis, melhor os domínios físico, psicológico e ambiental. Conclusão: Quanto maior o escore de alimentação, melhor a qualidade de vida dos professores. Assim, a alimentação saudável pode contribuir com a promoção da saúde, refletindo em melhor qualidade de vida.


Objective: to relate the quality of life (QOL) and food consumption (FC) of teachers from private network. Methods: Cross-sectional study that evaluated QOL, FC and economic classes. Results: Regarding the QOL of 107 teachers, 64.5% were classified as good and 19.6% very good, 70.1% belongs to the class C and 64,5% showed FC satisfactory. The scores of feed were significantly correlated with the QOL, physical, psychological, social and environmental domains, and with overall QOL. The higher the scores of feed, the best quartiles of physical, psychological and environmental domains. Conclusion: The higher scores of feed, the better QOL of teachers. Thus, a healthy diet can contribute to health promotion reflecting better QOL.


Objetivo: relacionar la calidad de vida (CV) y el consumo de alimentos (CA) de la red privada de los maestros. Métodos: Estudio transversal que evaluó la CV, CA y clase económica. Resultados: En cuanto a la CV de 107 profesores, el 64,5% se clasificaron como buena y El 19,6% muy buena, el 70,1% pertenece a la clase C y 64,5% mostró CA satisfactoria. Las puntuaciones de la alimentación (PA) se correlacionaron significativamente con los ámbitos de la CV, físico, psicológico, social y ambiental, con la calidad de vida en general. Cuanto mayor sea La PA la mejor cuartiles los dominios físicos, psicológicos y ambientales. Conclusión: Cuanto mayores sean las PA de los maestros, mejor la CV. Por lo tanto, una dieta saludable puede contribuir a la promoción de La salud refleja una mejor calidad de vida.

ABSTRACT

El momento histórico que viven los países en Latinoamérica, está reclamando con urgencia el aporte de la educación superior. En este sentido el presente trabajo muestra los resultados de una investigación llevada a cabo con un grupo de actores universitarios, personal no docente, de cinco universidades de América Latina. El objetivo fue conocer las creencias que sobre el ámbito organizacional de la RSU, tienen 350 personas vinculadas al sector administrativo de cinco universidades de América Latina: Católica de Colombia, Loja de Ecuador, Tecnológica de Paraguay, Yucatán de México y Francisco Gavidia de El Salvador. Se aplicó la encuesta elaborada para tal fin, por Valleys, De la Cruz y Sasia (2009) de cinco dimensiones, ajustada para este propósito. Los resultados muestran que la valoración más positiva de los participantes, se ubica en el componente denominado relaciones interpersonales con 4.71 en la opción de acuerdo. Este proceso básico y fundamental en la vida y construcción socio- afectiva de las personas, da cuenta del grado en que influimos y somos influidos por el comportamiento de los demás, de ahí su importancia para la materialización de los planteamientos de la Responsabilidad social universitaria.


The historical moment that countries live in Latin America, is calling urgently the contribution of higher education. In this sense, the present work shows the results of a research carried out with a group of university actors, non-teaching staff, five universities in Latin America. The objective was to know the beliefs about the organizational environment of the RSU, 350 people linked to the administrative sector of five Latin American universities: Catholic of Colombia, Loja of Ecuador, Technological of Paraguay, Yucatan of Mexico and Francisco Gavidia of El Salvador. The survey developed for this purpose by Valleys, De la Cruz and Sasia (2009) of five dimensions, adjusted for this purpose. The results show that the most positive evaluation of the participants is located in the component called interpersonal relations with 4.71 in the agreement option. This basic and fundamental process in the life and socio-affective construction of people accounts for the degree to which we influence and are influenced by the behavior of others, hence their importance for the materialization of the approaches of university social responsibility.

Los riesgos ocupacionales a los cuales están expuestos los docentes del área de salud, aumentan con el desempeño de sus actividades asistenciales y prácticas formativas con estudiantes, por esto durante su formación profesional se exigen conocimientos, juicio crítico, desarrollo de habilidades y destrezas en el cumplimiento de sus funciones. Objetivo: evaluar el conocimiento en riesgo biológico y el cumplimiento de las prácticas de bioseguridad en el personal docente, responsable de la formación clínica de los estudiantes de los programas académicos de la Facultad de Salud de una Institución de Educación Superior. Metodología: estudio descriptivo, de corte transversal, con una muestra de 78 docentes, entrevistados personalmente y en sus áreas de trabajo. Se evaluaron variables de conocimiento respecto al concepto que tienen los docentes sobre riesgo biológico y bioseguridad y la variable de prácticas respecto al cumplimiento de normas de bioseguridad. Resultados: la tercera parte de los docentes evaluados conocen sobre riesgo biológico y bioseguridad y en un porcentaje menor se evidenció la aplicación de prácticas de bioseguridad. No se observaron relaciones estadísticamente significativas entre conocimiento en riesgo biológico y bioseguridad y tipo de vinculación y antigüedad docente. Discusión: los docentes reconocen la exposición al riesgo biológico, pero preocupa la baja utilización de medidas de bioseguridad y de procedimientos recomendados para prevenir accidentes. Conclusiones: se espera que los docentes del área de la salud tengan un alto conocimiento sobre riesgo biológico y aplicación de normas de bioseguridad, pero esta investigación demostró las deficiencias en este tema por la población estudiada.


Professors working in the field of health are exposed to occupational risks that increase as they perform their care and teaching activities with students. Thus their professional training demands they acquire the knowledge, critical judgment, and skills to carry out their tasks. Objective: To assess the knowledge on biological risk and the compliance with biosafety practices among the teaching staff responsible for the clinical training of the students from the academic programs offered at the Faculty of Health of a Higher Education Institution. Methodology: a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a sample of 78 professors who were interviewed personally at their workplaces. Variables regarding knowledge of the concept that the teachers have of biological risk and biosafety were evaluated. Likewise, the variable of practices with regards to biosafety regulation compliance was also evaluated. Results: One third of the assessed professors are familiar with biological risks and biosafety. A lesser percentage applies biosafety practices. No statistically significant relationships between knowledge of biological risks and biosafety and the type of contract and seniority were observed. Discussion: professors are aware of their exposure to biological risk; however, the low usage of biosafety measures and procedures recommended to prevent accidents is a matter of concern. Conclusions: Professors working in the field of health are expected to have a deep understanding of biological risks and the application of biosafety standards, yet this study showed a lack of knowledge of this issue among the studied population.


Os riscos ocupacionais que os docentes da área de saúde estão expostos, acrescentam com o desempenho das suas atividades assistenciais e práticas de formação com estudantes, isso durante sua formação profissional se exigemconhecimentos, pensamento crítico, desenvolvimento de habilidades e destrezas no cumprimento de suas funções. Objetivo: Avaliar o conhecimento em risco biológico e o cumprimento das práticas de biossegurança no pessoal docente, responsável pela formação clínica dos estudantes dos programas acadêmicos da Faculdade de Saúde de uma Instituição de Educação Superior. Metodologia: Estudo descritivo, de corte transversal, com uma amostra de 78 docentes, entrevistados pessoalmente e em suas áreas de trabalho. Foram avaliadas variáveis referentes ao conhecimento que os docentes têm respeito ao conceito sobre o risco biológico e biossegurança. . Também foram avaliadas variáveis práticas com respeito ao cumprimento de normas de biossegurança. Resultados : A terceira parte dos docentes avaliados conhecem sobre risco biológico e biossegurança e em uma percentagem menor evidenciou-se a aplicação de práticas de biossegurança. Não houve relações estatisticamente significativas entre conhecimento em risco biológico e biossegurança e entre o tipo de ligação e antiguidade docente. Discussão: os docentes reconhecem a exposição ao risco biológico, mas preocupa a baixa utilização de medidas de biossegurança e de procedimentos recomendados para prevenir acidentes. Conclusões: Espera-se que os docentes da área da saúde tenham um melhor conhecimento sobre risco biológico e aplicação de normas de biossegurança, mas esta pesquisa demonstrou as deficiências neste tema com a população estudada.

Se realizó una investigación cualitativa durante 2014, que contempló a los 57 docentes de la carrera de trabajo social, pertenecientes a la Universidad "Eloy Alfaro" de la República de Ecuador, con vistas a realizar un diagnóstico para identificar el nivel de preparación cognoscitivo de los profesores sobre la educación en valores y, a partir de los resultados, implementar posteriormente una estrategia educativa, teniendo en cuenta que el carácter complejo, multifacético de la educación en valores exige del claustro de profesores una preparación especial.


A qualitative investigation was carried out during 2014 including the 57 members of the teaching staff from the social work career, belonging to "Eloy Alfaro" University at the Republic of Ecuador, with the aim of carrying out a diagnosis to identify the cognitive preparation level of the professors on the values education and, from the results obtained, to implement an educational strategy later on, keeping in mind that the complex and multifaceted character of the education in values demands a special preparation from the professor's board.

Se realizó una caracterización del claustro de profesores que desarrollaron acciones directas con el estudiante, para su formación, en el último curso concluido y se compararon los resultados con los datos contenidos en el informe de autoevaluación de la carrera de 2008. Se seleccionaron las variables edad, sexo, categoría docente e investigativa, formación académica además de indicadores de la guía de evaluación de las carreras universitarias. Las edades que predominaron fueron de los grupos de más de 55 años y de 46-55, en ambos años con 39, 23 por ciento y 30,76 por ciento en 2013. Predominó el sexo femenino con 56,89 por ciento y 64,23 por ciento respectivamente. Prevalecieron las categorías docentes titulares y auxiliares con un 13,27 por ciento y 44,69 por ciento en 2013. Se incrementaron los profesores que ostentan grados académicos y científicos. Se incrementó el número de investigaciones y el índice de publicaciones por profesor fue de 4,04. Se concluyó que predominó el sexo femenino y los grupos de edades de más de 55 años y de 46-55. Se incrementó el número de titulares y auxiliares y doctores en ciencias, másteres y especialistas de II grado, además de investigadores en el año 2013. El índice de publicaciones por profesor se consideró una fortaleza. Estos resultados evidenciaron un salto de calidad en esta importante variable.


This paper characterized the teaching staff which implemented direct actions with the students aimed at their formation in the last course and it compared the results with the data from the self-assessment report of the medical career in 2008. The variables were age, sex, teaching and research category, and academic formation in addition to the evaluative guide indicators of university careers. The prevailing ages were over 55 years-old and 46-55 y ears-old in both academic years, with 39.23 percent and 30.76 percent in 2013. Females prevailed with 56.89 percent and 64.23 percent, respectively. The predominant teaching categories were full and associate professor for 13.27 and 44.69 percent of the total in 2013. The number of professors who hold scientific and academic degrees increased. There were more research studies and the index of publications per professor was 4.04. It was concluded that females and age groups over 55 years and 46-55 years predominated. The number of full professors, associated professors, PhDs, Masters and Second-degree specialists and of research works also rose. The index of publications per professor was considered as strength. These results showed a leap in quality for this important variable.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To understand the proportion of university faculty suffering from hypertension,and the regularity,ratio-nality and affordability of antihypertensive drugs under closed medical environment. METHODS:Empirical research and research methods were adopted to collect indicators during 2011-2014,such as average daily wage in Wuhan,the total number of staff in Wuhan University,the number of staff with hypertension,antihypertensive drugs amount/DDDs ranking ratio,affordability ratio,relative av-erage affordability, etc. The rationality and affordability of antihypertensive drug prices were evaluated. RESULTS:During 2011-2014,the prevalence rate of hypertension in the staff were about 23%,and the proportion increased year by year;the annual in-crease of antihypertensive drug amount was larger than that of the number of patients;the type of antihypertensive drugs with affordabil-ity ratio>1 in 4 years was ARB varieties,and affordability ratio of other drugs was less than 1. CONCLUSIONS:More than half of drugs is high in price,that result in heavy burden of patients receiving ARB;on the whole,antihypertensive drugs are affordable of the teaching staff of Wuhan University.

ABSTRACT

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection remains a public health challenge and Nigerian universities are not immune to the effect of the epidemic. Despite the fact that non academic junior staff constitute a significant proportion of the workforce and are at risk due to their lower level of education and socio-economic status, few studies have focused on them. The broad aim of this study is to assess the HIV knowledge, risk perception and behaviours of junior staff of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 700 junior staff of the University of Ibadan. Respondents were selected using multistage sampling technique and completed structured interviewer-administered questionnaires. The quantitative data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (version 17) to generate frequencies and cross tabulations of variables. The mean age of the respondents was 38.89.9 years, 74.6% were males, 76.4% were married and 51.6% had post secondary education. Majority identified blood transfusion 94.4% and sexual intercourse 97.3% as the main routes of transmission. The commonest methods of prevention known were condom use 79.6% and mutual fidelity 89.7%. Respondents aged 20-29 years, the single and those with post-secondary education (P=0.000) had higher HIV related knowledge. Only 10% of the respondents perceived that they were at risk of contracting the disease; 30.3% did not think People Living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHAs) should continue to work. Fifteen percent reported sexual intercourse with a non-regular partner in the previous 12 months and 30.8% of this group did not use a condom. Workplace health education programmes to reduce HIV risk behaviours and stigmatizing attitudes are recommended.

ABSTRACT

Objetivos: explorar el nivel de conocimientos, acerca de la función investigativa, de 41 profesores de la Especialidad de Medicina General Integral e identificar sus necesidades de aprendizaje. Métodos: estudio descriptivo, prospectivo y de corte transversal en el que se aplicó una encuesta, previo consentimiento informado. Resultados: se detectó desconocimiento de los tipos de muestras existentes en la investigación cuantitativa y de las fases de la investigación cualitativa, de las conductas inapropiadas que pueden conllevar connotaciones jurídicas y éticas, de las fases del ensayo clínico controlado y de la clasificación de los diseños de investigación. Conclusión: se hace necesaria la exploración sistemática de las necesidades de aprendizaje en los profesionales vinculados a la atención primaria de salud.


Objectives: to explore the level of knowledge on the research function of 41 professors in the general integral medicine specialty and to identify their learning requirements. Methods: prospective, cross-sectional and descriptive study based on the administration of a survey after informed consent of participants. Results: this study revealed that the professors did not know the different types of samples existing in the quantitative research, the phases of qualitative research, the inappropriate behaviors that may have legal and ethical consequences, the phases of the controlled clinical assay and the classification of the research designs. Conclusion: it is necessary to systematically explore the learning requirements of the professors linked to the primary health care.
