ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo prepare oral nanoemulsions encapsulating essential oil from Alpinia zerumbet fructus(EOFAZ) and to investigate its pro-absorption effect in vitro and distribution in vivo. MethodThe proteoglycan conjugate polysaccharides of vinegar-processed Bupleuri Radix-bovine serum albumin(VBCP-BSA) was prepared by Maillard reaction of VBCP and BSA. Taking VBCP-BSA as emulsifier, vitamin B12(VB12) as absorption enhancer, and medium chain triglycerides mixed with EOFAZ as oil phase, the nanoemulsions loaded with EOFAZ was prepared by high energy emulsification method. The particle size, particle size distribution, surface Zeta potential, EOFAZ content and appearance and morphology of the nanoemulsions were characterized, and fluorescein tracer method was used to investigate the absorption effect of fluorescein-labeled EOFAZ nanoemulsions in vitro and their distribution in vivo. ResultVBCP-BSA was formed by Maillard reaction for 48 h with high grafting rate. Using VBCP-BSA as emulsifier, the homogeneous pink nanoemulsions was prepared and denoted as EOFAZ@VBCP-BSA/VB12. The particle size of the nanoemulsions was less than 100 nm and the particle size distribution was uniform. The surface of the nanoemulsions was a weak negative charge, and the shape was spherical. The encapsulation rate of the nanoemulsions for EOFAZ was greater than 80%, which had a good absorption effect in vitro and could enhance liver accumulation after oral administration. ConclusionThe designed proteoglycan nanoemulsions can effectively load EOFAZ, promote oral absorption and enhance liver distribution, which can provide experimental basis for the development of oral EOFAZ liver protection preparations.

ABSTRACT

BackgroundHome-based intervention occupies a prominent place in the treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children, whereas previous studies on the effect of home-based early intensive behavioral intervention on verbal ability of children with ASD are somewhat inadequate. ObjectiveTo study the effects of intensive family behavioral of intervention based on Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) on the language ability of children with ASD, so as to provide references for the development of family intervention strategies for children with ASD. MethodsChildren aged 2 to 3 years old who attended the Children's Rehabilitation Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College from September 2020 to December 2021 and met the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM-5) diagnostic criteria for ASD were selected as the study objects. A non-randomized concurrent control trial was conducted to compare a study group (n=24) receiving home-based early intensive behavioral intervention using VB-MAPP with a control group (n=14) receiving training from other special institutions or early childhood education institutions. The intervention lasted for 6 months in both groups. Before and after the intervention, the VB-MAPP milestone assessment was performed in the two groups, and the VB-MAPP milestone score, mand, trac and listener responds were selected as the study indicators. Then the intervention effect was compared between two groups, and the multiple linear regression was performed to screen the related influencing factors. ResultsAfter intervention, the total milestone assessment score, mand, tact and listener responds scores of study group were higher than those of control group, with statistical difference (Z=-4.339~-2.195, P<0.05 or 0.01). Multiple linear regression analysis denoted that the average weekly hours of home-based intervention in the first three months had certain effect on listener responds (β=1.029, P<0.05). ConclusionApplication of home-based early intensive behavior intervention using VB-MAPP may contribute to the improvement of verbal abilities such as mand, tact and listener responds in children with ASD. ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the detection and segmentation of ischemic core infarct volume of the acute stroke in diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) images using cascaded VB-Net.Methods:MRI data of 1 500 patients (2 456 lesions) with acute ischemic stroke in Henan Provincial People′s Hospital from December 2016 to December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Firstly, manual segmentation of ischemic core was performed on DWI images (b=1 000 s/mm 2), and then all data were divided into training set, validation set and independent test set by 8∶1∶1. Then, the cascaded VB-Net was constructed, and the core infarct was automatically detected and segmented in the test set. Interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to evaluate the consistency of volume size measured by manual segmentation and cascaded VB-Net. The patients were divided into large ischemic core lesion group (ischemic core volume ≥10 ml) and small ischemic core lesion group (ischemic core volume<10 ml), and the Dice coefficient difference between the two groups was compared using Mann-Whitney U test. Results:In independent test set, cascaded model had the detection rate of 94.6% (243/257) with Dice coefficient of 0.76 (0.68, 0.84). The agreement of cacade VB-Net segmented [4.19(1.21,14.13)ml] and manual segmented ischemic core infarct volume [4.08(1.19,17.92)ml] was high (ICC=0.97, P<0.001). There was no significant difference in Dice coefficient between large and small lesion groups [0.76 (0.69, 0.85), 0.76 (0.67, 0.84), Z=-0.44, P=0.657]. Conclusions:The cascaded VB-Net model provided a tool to realize automatic detection, segmentation, and calculation of ischemic core infarct volume. It has good segmentation accuracy and high consistency with manual segmentation, which can provide an auxiliary decision-making tool for the selection of treatment plans.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective: To determine the prevalence of potentially pathogenic microbiological agents in vaginal exudates in a sample of asymptomatic pregnant women in the Department of Atlantico, Colombia. Materials and Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study of a sample of asymptomatic pregnant women who attended a private primary healthcare institution in Barranquilla, Colombia, between 2014 and 2015. Pregnant women having received antimicrobial treatment within the last 30 days, with vaginal bleeding, mental disability or immunosuppression, were excluded. Consecutive sampling was performed. The prevalence of colonization time by some of the microbiological agents as well as specific prevalence were estimated: number of women with infection by agent type/number of women at risk assessed. Results: Overall prevalence was 24.8% (56/226); 55.4% (31/56) was due to vaginitis causal agents, and 44.6% (25/56) to vaginosis. The specific prevalence by type of pathogen, 13.3% (30/226) was vaginitis due to colonization by Candida spp. and 0.4% (1/226) was vaginitis due to T. vaginalis. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) was found in 8.0% (18/226). Conclusion: Substantial colonization of the lower genital tract by potentially pathogenic germs is found in pregnant women between 35 and 37 weeks of gestation. Further studies are required in order to determine the benefit of population screening in terms of avoiding poor maternal and perinatal outcomes, and the impact on the resulting overcosts.

ABSTRACT

Skin exposure to acute or repetitive ultraviolet light induces risks which are now well identified. An efficient photoprotection is thus required for both UVB and UVA radiation. In particular, increasing evidence of the detrimental effects of UVA on skin has led to the development of a new generation of sunscreens that provide effective protection throughout the whole UV radiation spectrum. Many new UV filters have been introduced in the last decade, particularly UVA filters, with improved efficacy and safety. Sunscreen filters must be carefully combined to achieve esthetically pleasing products offering photostable and well-balanced photoprotection.

ABSTRACT

A total of 681 unitary activities were recorded extracellularly in the thalamic ventrobasal complex (VB) of anesthetized and immobilized cats, of which 67 units were synchronized with heart beat (HB) with some relative latency. HB discharges were divided into six types according to the shape in their post Rwave time histogram (PRTH) analysis, however some HB changed in both the number and relative latency of the discharge, and were identified their receptive fields (Rfs) on or in the bodies, of 35 units of the 681 (5.1%). These HB Rfs were distributed widely from the tip of auricula to the toe of hindlimb. The lateralities of their HB Rfs were all contralateral to recording sites in the thalamic VB. In general, the HB Rfs of the thalamic VB were distributed on upper half of the bodies much more than the lower half; especially on the upper cervix, the chest and the forelimbs. The somatotopic organization of HB units in thalamic VB showed the same tendency. The relative latencies between the R-wave of ECG and HB activities showed the tendency to be dependent on the distances from the Rfs to the recording sites in thalamic VB. Some HB activity was followed by a silent period when the background activities disappeared during several tens of milliseconds which was presumably caused by a feedback inhibitory mechanism consisting of the axon collateral of the thalamocortical cell and the inhibitory interneuron.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the cross protective effects of folic acid,VB6,VB12 on rat aortic endothelial cells(RAEC) from injury induced by DL-homocysteine(Hcy).Method:RAEC were cultured in vitro, and the cross effects of folic acid,VB6,VB12 were studied by MTT.According to the results of orthogonal design, the activities of SOD,GSH-PX,NOS and the contents of MDA,NO in the media were compared. Results:The results of orthogonal design indicated that the inhibition of Hcy to RAEC could be relieved by folic acid,VB12 excluding VB6.The interaction existed between folic acid and VB12,as well as VB6 and VB12.The inhibition of Hcy to the enzymes(SOD、GSH-PX、NOS) could be relieved by three vitamin projects.Folic acid,VB12,VB6 could inhibit the reduction of NO and decrease the production of MDA.Conclusion:The simultaneous addition of folic acid,VB6 and VB12 may be an excellent strategy for protection of RAEC injury induced by DL-homocysteine.
