ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the bacteriostatic effect of ε-polylysine( ε-PL) on four common putrefactive bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus,Enterococcus faecalis,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,and E. coli and its effect on urine lead level. METHODS: Broth dilution method was used for the determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration( MIC) ofε-PL on the four kinds of putrefactive bacteria; the inhibitory effects of ε-PL with final mass concentration of 40. 000 mg / L on the urine sample were observed; graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry was used for determining the lead level in the 40. 000 mg / L( mass concentration) ε-PL solution and the urine lead level in normal healthy groups; the bacteriostatic effects of ε-PL and nitric acid were compared. RESULTS: The MIC of ε-PL on Staphylococcus aureus,Enterococcus faecalis,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,and E. coli was 40. 000 mg / L. There was no bacterial growth in the urine sample with40. 000 mg / L( mass concentration) ε-PL when urine was kept at room temperature for 24 hours to 15 days. The lead level was < 2. 0 μg / L in the 40. 000 mg / L( mass concentration) ε-PL solution. When the ε-PL with final mass concentration of 40. 000 mg / L and the nitric acid with a volume fraction of 1. 0% were respectively used as the antiseptics,the descending rates of the lead levels in the urine samples were similar,and after the urine sample was preserved for 15 days,the descending rates of the urine lead were both smaller than 10. 0% after be stored for 15 days. CONCLUSION: ε-PL can substitute nitric acid as a new natural preservative for preservation of samples for urine lead determination.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To use the extracts from traditional Chinese medicinal materials (TCMM) for reduction of Ag+ to obtain the corresponding silver nanomaterials and study its antibacterial activity. Methods: Nano-silver solution was prepared by Rhei Radix et Rhizoma and other 15 kinds of TCMM extracts, the size and distribution of silver nanoparticles were studied using HPPS, TEM, and UV. The antibacterial activities of silver nanoparticles were investigated by disk agar diffusion method and double dilution method. Results: Preparation rate and reaction rate of silver nanoparticles prepared with the water extract of Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata, Moslae Herba were ideal. Prepared silver nanoparticles with diameter about 100 nm, good uniformity, and good dispersibility have the obvious inhibitory effect on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Among them, Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata-silver nano has the strongest bacteriostatic effect. Conclusion: TCMM as a natural bio-reducing agents, can be used to prepare the silver nanoparticles.

ABSTRACT

Background: Clinical evidences suggest antimicrobial activities of a new oil extract mixture of Hypericum perforatum and Azadirachta indica, included in a polymeric scaffold (or Hyperoil™ Polimeric Substrate - HPS). Methods: Bacteriostatic activity was investigated on selected strains of Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC® 12598™), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC® 10145™) and Klebsiella ozaenae AM through standardized in vitro tests. Results and Conclusion: All bacterial strains were stabilized or reduced in size after 3 and 24 hours contact with the HPS if compared to the empty polymeric scaffolds. Results showed the bacteriostatic effect of HPS that, added with its anti-inflammatory properties, could explain its tissue repair effects observed in vivo.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To appraise the bacteriostatic and blocking effect and cost construction of different kinds of materials.METHODS To divide all items into three parts at random:cotton fabric,paper-plastic package,and medical grade wrinkle paper and to study the bacteriostatic and blocking effect and cost construction of them.RESULTS Paper-plastic package and medical grade wrinkle paper had better bacteriostatic and blocking properties than cotton fabric.Comparing with cotton fabric,paper-plastic package and medical grade wrinkle paper could reduce the cost separately by 27% and 50%;the cost of wrinkle paper was lower than paper-plastic package by 32%.CONCLUSIONS Paper-plastic package and wrinkle paper have better effect on blocking bacteria and less cost than cotton fabric,which deserve more extensive application in clinic.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To study the litholytic,bacteriostatic and spasmolytic effects of Baoganxiaoshi capsule(BXC) in vitro.METHODS:Observed the effects of BXC on human bile pigmental and cholesterol gallstone, bacteria, duodenum smooth muscle of rabbits in vitro.RESULTS:The litholytic concentration of 7.568,15.135 and 30.270g(crude drug)/ml solutions of BXC on human bile pigmental gallstone were 5.4mg,8.3 mg and 14.7 mg respectively,and on human bile cholesterol gallstone were 2.9mg,5.1 mg and 7.1 mg respectively.So BXC have the litholytic function of bile pigmental and cholesterol gallstone.It can strongly inhibit or sterilize staphylococcus aureus, enterococcus, diphtherial bacillus, hemo1ytic streptococcus, and the MICs were 23.65mg(crude drug)/ml ,23.65mg(crude drug)/ml,23.65mg(crude drug)/ml and 47.297mg(crude drug)/ml respectively, and all of the MBCs were 47.297mg(crude drug)/ml.It can inhibit or sterilize coliform,salmonella and pneumococcus, and all of the MICs were 378.375mg(crude drug)/ml, and all of the MBCs were 756.75mg(crude drug)/ml.5.3 414mg(crude drug)/ml solutions of BXC could obviously inhibit the average tension amplified,the frequency accelerated,and the activity increaced,on the duodenum smooth muscle induced by ach(P
