ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the outcome of an absorbable bioactive bone-inducing material for the treatment of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH).Methods Thirty rabbits were randomly, evenly divided into three groups, experience group with bioactive bone-inducing material planted into bone collapse, control group 1 with oral ShengMaiJiaoNang and control group 2 with no implantation in the bone necrosis. Results In experiment group, bone necrosis was halted and the collapse was repaired.Meanwhile, cancellous bone and cortical bone were regenerated, necrotic bone was basically healed, and bioactive bone-inducing material was gradually degraded and absorbed. In control group 1,part of the bone marrow vascular was repaired and regenerated, and a little new bone grew, which delayed the process of necrosis. In control group 2,there was no bone tissue regeneration in the bone collapse and further deterioration was observed. Conclusions The bioactive bone-inducing material can not only replace autologous cancellous bone, but also halt the progress of osteonecrosis, which may become an alternative treatment for the stage Ⅱ and early stage of ONFH.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study examined the osteoinductive activity of demineralized human dentin matrix for nude mice. METHODS: Twenty healthy nude mice weighing about 15 to 20 g were used for study. Demineralized human dentin matrix was prepared and implanted into the dorsal portion of nude mice (subcutaneous), which were sacrificed at two, four, and eight weeks after demineralized dentin matrix grafting and evaluated histologically by H&E and Masson trichrome staining. The specimens were also evaluated histomorphometrically. RESULTS: The demineralized dentin matrix induced bone and cartilage formation independently in soft tissues. Histological examination showed bone-forming cells such as osteoblasts and fibroblasts at two, four, and eight weeks. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that demineralized human dentin matrix has osteoinductive ability, and is a good alternative to autogenous bone graft materials.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Adipose tissue-derived stem cells(ADSC) has an osteoconductive potential and demineralized bone matrix(DBM) is an osteoinductive material. A combination of DBM and ADSC wound probably create osteoinductive properties. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the combination of DBM and ADSC mixture on healing of rat calvarial defect. METHODS: Thirty adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized into 3 groups(n=10) as 1) Control, 2) DBM alone, 3) DBM with ADSC mixture. DBM with ADSC mixture group has had a 3-day preculture of ADSC from groin fat pad. An 6 mm critical size circular calvarial defect was made in each rat. Defect was implanted with DBM alone or DBM with ADSC mixture. Control defect was left unfilled. 6 and 12 weeks after the implantation, the rats were sacrificed and the defects were evaluated by histomorphometric and radiographical studies. RESULTS: Histomorphometric analysis revealed that DBM with ADSC mixture group showed significantly higher bone formation than DBM alone group(p<0.05). Although radiographs from DBM alone group and DBM with ADSC group revealed similar diffuse radiopaque spots dispersed throughout the defect. Densitometric analysis of calvarial defect revealed DBM with ADSC mixture group significantly higher bone formation than DBM alone(p<0.05). There was correlation of densitometry with new bone formation(Spearman's correlation of coefficient=0.804, 6 weeks, 0.802, 12 weeks). CONCLUSION: The DBM with ADSC mixture group showed the best healing response and the osteoinductive properties of DBM were accelerated with ADSC mixture. It will be clinically applicable that DBM and ADSC mixture in plastic and reconstructive surgery, such as alveolar cleft and congenital facial deformities that bone graft should be required.

ABSTRACT

[Objective]To observe the curative effect of ectogenic bone inductive factor in treating osteoporotic frature, and provide feasibility pathway and method for clinical treatment.[Method]Sixty cases of osteoporotic fracture from Febuary 2002 to May 2005 were randomly divided into experimental group(30 cases) and control group(30 cases). The experimental group were given 4 ml osteotide a day by intramuscular injection, and 15 days were a course of treatment. The second course of treatment went on after 15 days later when the first course ended. At the same time,no any medicine was given to the control group. The biochemical indicators were detected 2 months later. And after 2,4 and 6 months the union of fracture was observed through radiology.[Result]Four months after operation, radiology examination showed that the rate of union of fracture was 93% and 67% respectively. There was significant difference between the two groups(P

ABSTRACT

[Objective]To investigate effects of surgical treaments applying different fixation apparatus and bone inducing material on atlanto-axial unstableness.[Method]Twenty-four cases of Afianto-axial unstablmaess were treated by posterior internal fixatiun and bono grafting,19 cases were operatad with Apofix instrument system and 5 cases with AOSYS instrument system, bone grafting was used with artificial bone inducing material. The fusion rate, physical curve of cervical vertibrae and side-effect of implantation were observed and function were evaluated.[Result]The follow-up period was from 6 months to 36 months. The average was 18 months.Bony implanting side-effect was not found.Pre-operative symptoms of nervours systems disappeared in 18 cases, diminished in 5 cases, improved in 1 case after operation.Function evaluation:excellent 20 casas, good 2 cases, better 2 casas, excellent rate 92.4%.[Conclusion]Authors consider that odontoid fracture with atlantoaxial unstabilization can be treated by surgical operation of posterion fusion appling Apofix,AOSYS systems with osteoinduction active materials to obtain instant stabilization and permanent arthrodesis, which is an effective method to re-establish the stableness of upper cervicals.

ABSTRACT

With special biochemical methods, low—antigenic porcine bone matrix gelatin (PBMG) containing bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) and from which antigenic components were extracted was prepared. The article introduces the applied method and some experiences in treating fractures and bone defects with it. We believe that PBMG could improve fracture healing and replace autograft.
