ABSTRACT

@#Persistent corneal epithelial defect(PED)can occur after corneal herpes simplex virus infection, corneal transplantation, and intraocular surgery in diabetic patients. Although the incidence is not high, it can cause serious consequences if not properly managed, such as corneal infection or exacerbation, stromal ulcers, perforation, scarring, and even loss of vision. The pathogenic causes of PED are diverse and can be mediated by multiple mechanisms. In clinical practice, even with aggressive treatment, the corneal epithelium in PED eyes is difficult to heal and presents a challenge for treatment. At present, the standard treatment for PED management mainly includes the use of bandage soft contact lenses and artificial tears, aiming at the barrier protection for the corneal epithelium. The new treatment mainly focuses on epithelial regeneration and corneal nerve re-innervation. In addition, several drugs and methods with potential therapeutic value have emerged in recent years. In this review, we talk about how are the PEDs spread, what causes them, how are they diagnosed and how are they treated. We also talk about some new therapies and research process.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the short-term efficacy and adverse reactions of dicycloplatin in the treatment of malignant tumors. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed in our hospital from January 2017 to August 2018 using dicycloplatin to treat patients with malignant tumors. The efficacy and adverse reactions were evaluated after at least 2 cycles of chemotherapy. Results Among the 20 patients with an average of 4 cycles of chemotherapy, 1 had complete remission (CR), 4 had partial remission (PR), 7 had stable diseases (SD), 8 had progression (PD). The total efficacy was 25%. The control rate was 60%. The KPS scores for quality of life was higher than that before treatment (P<0.05). The main adverse effects during chemotherapy were bone marrow suppression, gastro-intestinal reactions. The incidence of leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, reduced hemoglobin, nausea vomiting and liver damage was 45%, 35%, 50%, 20%, and 5%, respectively. Conclusion Dicycloplatin-based chemotherapy has a good curative effect on malignant tumors, and the adverse reactions are mild and tolerable, which deserves further clinical observation and application.

ABSTRACT

To explore the therapeutic effect and security of Zisheng decoction recipein treatment of the chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) with intestinal metaplasia(IM). A total of 147 eligible cases were randomly divided into the traditional Chinese medicine group, Western medicine group and the combined group,47 cases in each group. Zisheng decoction recipe, famotidine, as well as Zisheng decoction recipe + famotidine were respectively given in the above three groups, with a treatment course of 30 d. The symptoms of traditional Chinese medicine, pathological score of gastric mucosa and the negative rate of Helicobacter pylori before and after treatment were observed in each group. The changes in pepsinogen Ⅰ (PGⅠ), pepsinogen Ⅱ (PGⅡ), gastrin-17 (GAS-17) and endothelin-1 (ET-1)were also detected to compare the efficient and safety indexes in the three groups. The combined group was better than the traditional Chinese medicine groupand the Western medicine group in total effective rate (P<0.05), pathological score of gastric mucosa and the negative rate of Helicobacter pylori, and serum indexes improvement (P<0.05). The improvement in TCM symptom score was more obvious in traditional Chinese medicine group and combined group than the Western medicine group (P<0.05). In the comparison ofincidence of complications, heart, liver and renal dysfunction, the traditional Chinese medicine group (2 case,4.8%)< the combined group (7 case,15.2%) <the Western medicine group (20 case,41.3%) (P<0.05). In the comparison of the blood and urine routine: the traditional Chinese medicine group (7 case,16.7%)< the combined group (14 case,30.4%) < the Western medicine group (24 case,52.2%) (P<0.05).The results showed that there was no significant difference in total effective rate between Zisheng decoction recipe and Western medicine in the treatment of CAG with IM, indicating Zisheng decoction recipe was effective; meanwhile, it had higher safety than famotidine. Zisheng decoction recipe combined with famotidine showed synergistic effect in the treatment of CAG with IM, can reverse the pathological changes of gastric mucosa in a certain extent, and the effect was better than that of Zisheng decoction recipe alone and famotidine alone.

ABSTRACT

Herba Epimedii is widely used as a traditional Chinese medicine for "strengthening the kidney" and "reinforcing bone" for a long time in China and other Asian countries. In this study, based on the large number of domestic and international references and research results, the authors reviewed pharmacological effects and the clinical application of species in genus Epimedium L. Meanwhile, chemical conversion and biotransformation of the major active compounds during the processing of the plants in Epimedium L. and their metabolism in vivo were summarized. This provides a guidance for the application and development in clinical therapy in the future.

ABSTRACT

In recent years, continuous progress has been made in the induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) research. iPSC can differentiate into many kinds of expected neural cells to treat nervous system diseases which lack of neural cells, and play relevant functional roles. Since the iPSC are generated from the somatic cells, they do not have the problems of the ethics and immune rejections and open the windows for their clinical applications to study the mechanisms, drug screening and autotransplantation therapy of the human diseases. Here we reviewe the recent research and application of iPSC on some neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease (PD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALC) and Huntington's disease (HD).

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore a reasonable therapeutic plan for treating HIV/AIDS with traditional Chinese medicine plus western medicine. Methods Twenty-nine patients with HIV/AIDS were selected and recruited into a HIV group and a AIDS group according to the clinical diagnosis. Each group was further divided into comparison stage and treatment stage. In HIV group, observations and statistics of observation indexes were performed during the comparison stage; while TCM treatment was applied in the treatment stage. In AIDS group, HAART was applied in the comparison stage, and HAART combined with TCM therapy were used in the treatment stage. Both comparison stage and the treatment stage lasted 12 months. Results In HIV group, self control results showed that immune and virus indexes did not have significant changes, but also with no side or toxic effects, In the AIDS group, contrasting between the comparison stage and the treatment stage showed that there were significant improvement of symptoms (χ2=4.9231, 2.5000, P<0.05) , anti-toxic effects (χ2=9.333、 16.4091、10.2273, P<0.01) and immune indexed(t=3.1990,P<0.01) after treated additionally with traditional Chinese medicine. Conclusion Traditional Chinese medicine could improve the immunity function and clinical symptoms, reduce side effect of HAART medicine and stabilize CD4+ T cells of patient with HIV/AIDS.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the medicine curative effect about unstable angina therapy and prevent from coronary infarction. Methods A total of 80 UA patients in hospital recently years were divided into treated group(Clopidogrel and Low molecular weight heparin) and control group(Aspirin and Xiangdan injection) witheach group 40 cases. Patients in Two group s were treated for a week and the curative effect was compared. Results There was no difference in baseline clinical data between two groups. Patients in The treated group were improved fast in clinical symptom and cardiogram ST - T segment. Conclusion Clopidogrel and Low molecular weight heparin can prevent from thrombus forming and have good effective in UA patients.
