ABSTRACT

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory disease. In addition to subjective evaluation, some objective quantifiable indices are needed for the diagnosis and treatment of rosacea. Some skin imaging and noninvasive measurement tools have been applied to clinical practice, and can provide quantitative or semi-quantitative indices to assist the diagnosis and treatment of rosacea. This review summarizes relevant research progress to provide evidence for clinical standardized application.

ABSTRACT

Along with the high prevalence of obesity in children and adolescents, obesity can lead to im-paired glucose tolerance, dyslipidemia, elevation of blood pressure, the risk of metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases gradually increases. As end-event cardiovascular disease(CVD)is hardly present in childhood, there is a critical need for early markers to assess, predict, and treat the children who are vulnerable to developing CVD.For mitigating the incidence of future CVD through early detection and pre-vention programs, this paper reviews the relationship between endothelial dysfunction and immunologic dysfunc-tion,chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, insulin resistance. And it also provides a critical overview on early-noninvasive measurements about endothelial function in obese children.

ABSTRACT

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is the most common severe gastrointestinal emergency in neonatal period. Searching biomarkers to identify infants at greatest risk of developing NEC might be of importance for early diagnosis, effective treatment and better prognosis of NEC. Biomarkers from stool and urine attract great attention due to non-invasiveness and easy availability of fecal and urinary sampling. This article reviews the latest research progress of non-invasive biomarkers including intestinal fatty acid binding protein, serum amyloid A, complement C3a and C5a in urine;fecal lactoferrin, intestinal bacteria spectrum, fecal calprotectin, S100A12 and high mobility group box-1 protein.

ABSTRACT

Objective To dynamically measure cardiac output in shock neonates and to explore its clinical values. Methods The cardiac output and stroke volume of left ventricle in 30 shock neonates and 30 normal neonates were measured by noninvasive ultrasonic cardiac output monitor (USCOM) and the measurement was repeated in shock neonates after volume expansion and dopamine(2-4μg/(kg·min))treatment.Results The cardiac output and stroke volume of left ventricle in shock neonates ((0.36 ± 0.24) L/min,(3.5 ± 1.5) cm~3) were significantly lower than those in normal neonates ((0.49 ± 0.15) L/min,(2.7 ± 1.6) cm~3)) and however were improved significantly after volume expansion and dopamine treatment ((0.52 ± 0.28) L/min,(3.8 ± 1.8) cm~3).The urine volume was also increased significantly after treatment (P < 0.05).Conclusions Dynamic measurement of the cardiac output in early shock neonates might offer guidance on clinical fluid resuscitation.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the non-invasive cardiac output measurements by electric impedance in critically illpatients. Methods Cardiac output measurements by impedance and Doppler ultrasonography were performed in 38 pa-tients in ICU. Results There was a significant correlation (r =0. 908 ) between impedance and ultrasonography for car-dio output measurement. Conclusion There is close agreement between electric impedance and ultrasonography in themeasurement of cardiac output in the patients. The electric impedance measurement is a noninvasive, feasible, handy, con-tinuous and cheap measurement of cardiac output.
