ABSTRACT

Background: The cessation of ovarian functions at menopause and the accompanying decline in the production of ovarian steroid hormones creates a unique set of health concerns for women. Reductions in sex steroid levels, particularly oestrogen, have been associated with various diseases and conditions, including bleeding disorders, coronary heart disease (CHD), osteoporosis, cognitive dysfunction, urinary incontinence, hot flushes, and mood changes, among others. Objective: To determine changes in haemorheological and clotting profile in post-menopausal women. Methods: Two hundred participants comprising one hundred and fifty post-menopausal women and fifty healthy pre-menopausal control subjects were studied. The investigations carried out include whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, fibrinogen concentration, Prothrombin time (PT), Activated partial thromboplastin time with kaolin (APTTK) levels and complete blood count using standard methods. Results: The mean age (p=0.01), platelet count (p= 0.013), neutrophil (p= 0.03), neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (p= 0.045) and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (p=0.044) in postmenopausal women were significantly higher while lymphocyte count (p= 0.004) was significantly lower in postmenopausal compared to premenopausal women. Similarly, plasma oestradiol (p= 0.001), plasma viscosity (p= 0.03), relative blood viscosity (p= 0.03), whole blood viscosity (p= 0.03) and PTTK(p= 0.04) were significantly lower among postmenopausal women compared to premenopausal control subjects. Conclusion: Relative plasma viscosity correlated positively with age. There were significantly lower levels of haemorheological and clotting profile in post-menopausal women. These changes may be due to age or a decline in circulating oestrogen levels.

ABSTRACT

@#AIM: To investigate the effect of puerarin combined with lecithin complex iodine tablets on hemostasis in patients with fundus hemorrhage. <p>METHODS: Totally 66 patients with fundus hemorrhage who entered into our hospital from April 2016 to March 2017 were collected and randomly divided into 2 groups: group A and group B, 33 cases(50 eyes)in each group. Group A was treated with lecithin complex iodine tablets, and group B was treated with puerarin combined with lecithin complex iodine tablets. Plasma viscosity index, serum homocysteine(Hcy), total cholesterol(TC)and triglyceride(TG)were measured and compared within 2 groups. The therapeutic effects and adverse reactions were compared between 2 groups. <p>RESULTS: Before treatment, there were no significant differences in plasma viscosity, serum Hcy, TC and TG between 2 groups(<i>P</i>>0.05). After treatment, the high blood viscosity, low blood viscosity, low plasma viscosity, plasma viscosity, Hcy, TC and TG in 2 groups had decreased than before treatment(<i>P</i><0.001). Compared with group A, the high blood viscosity, low blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, Hcy, TC and TG had decreased(<i>P</i><0.05). The total effect of group B were better than group A(<i>P</i><0.05). The adverse reaction like thyroid changes, gastrointestinal reactions, mental excitement and bloating happened in 2 groups. There was no significant difference in the adverse reaction rate between 2 groups(<i>P</i>>0.05).<p>CONCLUSION: The efficacy of puerarin combined with lecithin complex iodine tablets in the treatment of fundus hemorrhage is significant, which is related to improving plasma viscosity and decreasing serum Hcy, TC and TG.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effects of four kinds of extracts of Crataegi Folium on hemorheology, erythrocytes, platelets, coagulation time, and other indicators of 27 indicators in blood stasis rats from the aspects of whole and local double aspects by using the combination method of principal component and one-way ANOVA, and analysis of indicators contained in the information, in order to provide new analytical ideas for the mechanism of Crataegi Folium extract on activating blood and resolving stasis. Methods Forty-eight wistar rats were randomly divided into blank group, model group, and drug group. Blood stasis model was prepared by using adrenaline in ice water bath. Both blank group and model group were given normal saline, and drug group was given hawthorn leaves extract aqueous solution. Blood samples were collected and 27 indicators such as hemorheology, erythrocyte, platelet, and prothrombin time were selected. The principal component analysis (PCA) was used to decompose all the index data by dimensionless treatment and dimensionality reduction, and then the principal components were generated. The new variables (ie, principal component scores) were subsequently analyzed by one-way ANOVA. The results combined with the contribution rate of principal components and the correlation coefficient of each index was analyzed. Finally, the index groups and individual indexes in each group were analyzed synthetically, and the regularity conclusions were drawn. Results Eight principal components were extracted by principal component analysis, and the contribution rate was 77.992%. The results of theprincipal component analysis combined with the ANOVA showed that nine main components in the first principal component could replace the original 27 indicators to reflect the effect of Crataegi Folium extract on blood circulation and blood stasis, namely FIB, total number of red blood cells, total platelet count platelet volume, platelet count, blood viscosity at low shear rate, blood viscosity at middle shear rate, blood viscosity at high shear rate, and plasma viscosity. The results showed that the effects of the four extracts of Crataegi Folium on the index components were different. Conclusion The effect of activating blood and resolving stasis is mainly by reducing blood viscosity and plasma viscosity, promoting hemoglobin degradation and increasing the number of platelets, shortening the blood clotting and so on to achieve.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the characteristics of hemorheologic changes of hyperlipidemia rats at an early stage and to explore the mechanism of myocardial ischemic injury. Methods Seventy-two SD rats which were fed with high cholesterol diet(cholesterol+lard+pig bile salt) to result in hyperlipidemia model fell into HC group.Thirty-six SD rats which were fed with common diet fell into control group. The rats were fed for 10 to 90 d.At an interval of 10 d,9 time points were set. Therefore the 2 groups were randomly divided into 9 subgroups. At each time point, the changes of plasma lipids,cTnI,hemorheologic parameters, and pathological change of the rats’ myocardium and coronary vessel were assayed. Results The main characteristic of our models was hypercholesterolemia and high low-density-lipoproteins(LDL).With the extension of feeding time, plasma viscosity of HC group increased significantly, and erythrocyte deformability decreased. After fed with cholesterol for 50 d,myocardial ischemic injury occurred in the HC group.Correlation analysis revealed that the incidence of myocardial ischemic injury in hyperlipidemia rats was closely related with hypercholesterolemia and high low-density-lipoproteins.Conclusion The abnormal change of hemorheologic characteristics of hypercholesterolemia is a cause of myocardial ischemic injury.

ABSTRACT

Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and plasma viscosity (PV) are non-specific indices for screening, diagnosis and follow up to some disease. This prospective study of ESR and PV reports on 21 patients of pulmonary tuberculosis and 45 healthy. The mean and standard deviation of ESR in diseases and healthy were 80.1+35.4 and 11+7 mm/hr compared with PV 2.07+0.17 and 1.69+0.07 mPaS. After three months of complete treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis in six patients, the ESR returned from 69.2+25.9 to 21.3+16.8 mm/hr, the PV returned from 2.08+0.22 to 1.75+0.15 mPaS. Both tests gave good result in supporting diagnosis and follow up, however the PV is probably superior to ESR because of better quality control and precision, longer plasma reservation in room temperature. It is recommended that PV may have a role in clinical practice as well as ESR.
