ABSTRACT

Student's feedback is one of the most important considerations in health profession quality management. One of the most popular approaches for receiving feedback from students within individual institutions is the Student Satisfaction Approach. The aim of this study was to measure the satisfaction with educational services among health profession students and the determinants of satisfaction. Cross-sectional study was conducted in the main campus of the High Institute of Health Sciences in Yemen, including its eight branches. A self-directed questionnaire was distributed to 327 students who were randomly selected. The participation rate was very high: 94% (309/327); 57.9% were male and 42.1% were female. Overall, 59% of students were totally satisfied, 35% were partially satisfied; however only 6% of them were not satisfied. Results showed that personal development was the highest component of satisfaction among students, while the research subjects showed less–satisfaction with the learning resources. The findings provide valuable insights and offer recommendations for improvement in terms of quality management in health profession education.

ABSTRACT

Continuing Medical Education is an indispensable part of physician's learning. Well designed program based on andragogy principles can enhance learning by motivating the learner and providing platform to encourage self directed learning. The present study aimed to explore the impact of program “NAMS-AIIMS Regional Symposium on Sleep Medicine” in changing the behavior and attitude of participants using “Satisfaction Index” and descriptive analysis of responses as evaluation tools for program effectiveness. This descriptive cross sectional study captured the response of participants through a pre-tested and validated questionnaire administered at the end of symposium. The result showed almost equal sex distribution (M: F- 27: 34) with majority being UG students (86%). Reliability of data showed Cronbach's Alpha of 0.98 indicating high reliability. Satisfaction index (SI) calculated as per WHO Educational Handbook for Health Personnel showed highest satisfaction for conducive environment of symposium (87.87 %) followed by provision for time to seek clarifications (87.21%), provision of appropriate Learning Resource material (85.90 %) and handling of critical comments by organizers (85.57%). Descriptive analysis showed majority responses as highly positive to our questionnaire with suggestions for more such activity, inclusion of clinical cases and other aspects of practical relevance.

In the evaluation of student satisfaction with the education received by planning, in the basic area predominated a medium degree, in pre-clinic one, the 51,7 percent of students made reference to a high level of satisfaction. About the teaching carrying out and the strategies in the basic one prevailing a medium degree of satisfaction, in the pre-clinic one there was a high level. About evaluation, in both areas there was a marked level of medium satisfaction. From motivation to learning and the expectation coverage in basic area a medium level of satisfaction prevailed, and in the pre-clinic one there was a high level of satisfaction. CONCLUSIONS: Teaching function from the mentioned strategies is based on a knowledge transmission pattern and not in its production. Mediation and motivation for features production mainly in the basic area are neglected.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Small group discussions are useful tools in medical ethics education. We aimed to assess student satisfaction with specific components of a small group discussion and to evaluate student self-assessment of the objectives of education. METHODS: A structured questionnaire was developed after a literature review and a focus group interview. Components of the small group discussion were categorized by discussion case (self, other), individual activities (self-study, making materials, presentation experience), and group activities (preclass/in-class/postclass/plenary discussion, instructor's comments). The items for student self-assessment were: "To specify ethical issue in actual practice", "To get new knowledge", "To consider doctor's entity", "Empathy to others", "To get multidimensional viewpoint", "Viewpoint change", "To deliver my thought clearly", and "Ability to confront the medical ethics dilemma in the future". After the survey, an in-depth interview was performed to determine the reason behind the students' answers. RESULTS: A total of 121 students responded, for whom overall satisfaction and self-assessment were high. Students reported greater satisfaction with self-case, presentation experience, in-class discussion, and instructor's comments but less satisfaction with self-study before class and postclass discussion. Student self-assessment was highest in the ability to specify an ethical issue and lowest for viewpoint change and self-confidence. After multivariate analysis, higher student self-assessment was associated with greater satisfaction with the small group discussion. CONCLUSION: To improve the quality of medical ethics education, close investigation and monitoring of each component of the small group discussion and student achievement are essential, as is continuous feedback.

ABSTRACT

A study about the satisfaction of school lunch program was performed to 591 students and 541 parents in 5 middle schools by FS management system. The FS systems of the participating schools were 3 type of self-operating/traditional, self-operating/commissary and catering/delivery systems. Most joyful mealtime to students were identified as lunch because of eating with friends. Satiety after school lunch and leftover were different by FS system, such as adquate satiety greater in self-operating one and leftover food more in catering one than in the others. Foods tasted better in self-operating system than in catering one. The later was very poor for keeping soup hot and found more salty, more sweet and hotter than home meal. Students showed no difference in nutrition education but agreed greater to learning etiquette and to habit of various foods in self-operating system than in catering one. Students concluded they prefered school lunches to home-prepared lunches. Less work to prepare lunches home, better taste and nutrition, same meals to all students and nurition education were main reasons for parent to need school lunch program and they showed higher satisfaction of present school FS in self-operating system than in catering one. Parents claimed hygiene, taste, nutrition, nutrition education, food amount and service should be improved, especially in case of catering system and stressed on hygiene as the most important criteria for good school FS Management. They supported strongly school lunch program to coninue and prefered self-operating system than the others.
