O olhar da imprensa sobre o vôlei feminino: quando a sombra se destaca / The look of the sports press at women's volleyball: when the shadow plays the main role

O esporte vem sendo uma instituição que (re)produz a masculinidade, o patriarcalismo e o sexismo, privilegiando homens em detrimento da figura feminina. A mídia, nessa esteira, contribui para a construção e reconstrução dessas representações culturais na sociedade contemporânea. Objetivo: propusemo-nos a analisar a cobertura das finais da Superliga feminina de vôlei de quadra. Métodos: reunimos as fotos divulgadas no Caderno de Esportes de um jornal de alta circulação no país durante a disputa do título pelas equipes Osasco/SP e Rexona/RJ, no ano de 2007, e procedemos a técnica da Análise de Imagens. Resultados e Discussão: mulheres não são fotografadas executando saque; não são mostradas fazendo levantamentos ou defesas individuais; as adversárias são exibidas simultaneamente cortando/bloqueando com a rede cobrindo-lhes o rosto e; a maioria das fotos sugerem as formas corporais das atletas de costas, explorando o erotismo e fetiche. Conclusão: inferimos que a cobertura jornalística evidencia os atributos físicos das atletas em detrimento do desempenho, quando correspondem ao padrão de beleza convencionado...

The sport has been an institution that (re) produces masculinity, patriarchy and sexism, favoring men over the female figure. The media, in that way, contributes to the construction and reconstruction of these cultural representations in contemporary society. Aim: We set out to analyze the media coverage of the finals of the women's volleyball Superliga in Brazil. Method: The photographs analyzed were taken from the sports pages of high circulation newspaper in Brazil during the competition for title by the teams Osasco/SP and Rexona/RJ in 2007, and then, we proceeded the analyses of images. Results and Discussion: the women athletes weren't photographed while serving; the women athletes were not shown individually either digging or defending; the opponents were shown simultaneously attacking/blocking with the net covering their faces and; most of the photographs displayed the backs of the athletes, exploring the eroticism or fetishism. Conclusion: We inferthat the midia coverage highlights the physical attributes of women athletes while push into the background their sports performance, nevertheless, when they are within the agreed standard of beauty...

Mulher e Vôlei de Praia: memórias de Tia Leah / Woman and beach volleyball: memories of Tia Leah

O estudo buscou, na memória de pioneiros e nas lembranças dos que viveram o Vôlei de Praia lazer nas décadas de 1930 e 1940, delinear o perfil de Tia Leah na gestão, divulgação e visibilidade do Vôlei de Praia no Rio de Janeiro, através de entrevistas e recortes encontrados na literatura. O resgate dos depoimentos de oito pioneiros da modalidade à época tem na abordagem da História Oral seu aporte teórico e metodológico. A partir da reorganização do passado, houve a possibilidade de mostrar uma identidade sociocultural do Vôlei de Praia no seu início. A sociabilidade entre os jogadores foi fundamental para o convívio de diversas gerações. A gestão de Tia Leah na rede do Posto Seis em Copacabana, foi um marco do Vôlei de Praia, promovendo a equidade esportiva entre os homens e as mulheres que participaram nos jogos da rede.

From the memory of the pioneers and from the remembrance of those who had experienced the Beach Volley for leisure, the study tried to outline Aunt Leah’s profile in the management, disclosure and visibility of the Beach Volley in Rio de Janeiro, through interviews and newspaper cuts found in the literature. The retrieval of the testimonies of eight pioneers of that modality at that time has in the approach to the Oral History its theoretical and methodological contribution. From the reorganization of the past, it was possible to show a socio-cultural identity of the Beach Volley from its very beginning. The sociability among the players was critical to the relationship of several generations. Aunt Leah's management of the net at Posto Seis in Copacabana was a milestone of the Beach Volley as it promoted equal roles among men and women who participated in the games in that net.

Este texto aborda o voleibol feminino na cidade de Porto Alegre na década de 50 e 60 do século XX. Apresenta como aporte teórico-metodológico a História Oral, cujas fontes primárias foram entrevistas realizadas com mulheres praticantes desta modalidade no período em questão. A essas fontes somaram-se textos de jornais e periódicos, fotografias, diários, bem como publicações referentes ao contexto cultural e esportivo de Porto Alegre. Após a análise das fontes foi possível identificar que o voleibol feminino constitui-se como espaço de sociabilidade dessas mulheres ampliando, significativamente, sua participação num campo considerado de domínio masculino

This text discusses the womens volleyball in the city of Porto Alegre, more specifically in the 50s and 60s. It presents as theoretical-methodological support the oral history, of which primary sources were interviews performed with women that practiced the sport in such time. Among with those sources there are texts from newspapers, photographs, diaries, as well as publications regarding the sportive and cultural context of the city of Porto Alegre. After the analysis of the sources it was possible to recognize that the womens volleyball is constituted of a space of socialization to those women, increasing significantly their participation in a field considered as of male domain

Este texto discute el voleibol feminino en la ciudad de Porto Alegre en la decada de 50 y 60 del siglo XX. Presenta su aporte teórico y metodológica en la Historia Oral, cuyas fuentes primarias fueram entrevistas con mujeres atletas de esta modalidad en el periodo. A esos fuente sumaram-se textos de periodicos y revistas fotografias, así como publicaciónes a respecto del contexto cultural y deportivo de Porto Alegre. Después del análisis de las fuentes fue posible identificar que el voleibol feminino es un espacio de sociabilidad de las mujeres, ampliando, significativamente, su participación en un campo considerado de dominio masculino
