RESUMEN

This study was carried out on ninety neonates, seventy cases with Established sepsis based on clinical and laboratory criteria and twenty cases were normal or non-septicemic as a control group. A complete blood picture was performed for each case to assess the hematological scoring system [HSS]. Bacterial cultures of blood were also performed as well as assessment of serum levels of C- reactive protein [CRP] by radial immunodiffusion and soluble interleukin-2 receptor [SIL2R] by INNO test which is enzyme immunoassay. Urine samples were taken and tested for group B Streptococcal [GBS] antigen using latex particle agglutination [LPA]. The results showed highly significant differences between both groups as regard the hemoglobin concentration, RBCs count, platelet counts, immature polymorphonuclear counts and its relation to the mature ones [I/M ratio] and the immature to the total polymorphonuclear cells [I/T ratio]. There was also a significant difference as regard the total leukocytic and polymorphonuclear counts. It was found that sensitivity and specificity of HSS were 97% and 100% and 84.29% and 100% for CRP and 100% and 95.77% for LPA and 64.29% and 95% for SIL2R, respectively

RESUMEN

This work was carried out on 50 individuals divided into three groups. Group A included 20 volunteers without colorectal disease, group B included 20 patients with schistosomal colorectal polyps and group C included 10 patients with colorectal carcinoma. Histopathological and histochemical studies were done on the endoscopically obtained colorectal specimens from all 50 individuals. Periodic acid Schiff's reagent/Alcian blue stains [PAS/AB], Alcian blue [PHI] and mucicarmine stains were used to identify different types of mucosal mucin with qualitative estimation of the mucin content determined by the degree of reaction. The results showed that control cases have predominantly sulfated mucin with little amount of sialo mucin. Schistosomal polyps showed moderate increase in sialo mucin and transitional zone mucosa in malignant cases proved to have marked increase of sialo mucin

RESUMEN

"A trial of application of nodal lymphography for the cervical region was done in twenty patients with enlarged cervical lymph nodes. Contrary to the other techniques previously used, the present procedure proved to be simple, rapid and safe. It leaves no scars and needs no local anaesthetics, and succeeded in opacifying pathological lymph nodes which were not felt clinically. Both unilateral and bilateral injections showed evidences of contralateral flow, and communication between the lymphatics of both sides, particularly in cases with lymphostasis. Also collateral channels from the jugular chain to all groups of deep cervical lymph nodes and to the pretracheal nodes were observed"
