RESUMEN

The present work was carried out to evaluate the effect of occlusal reactive distal extension removable partial denture on the underlying supporting structures, clinically, cytologically and histopathologically. The subjects of this study were divided into two groups Group [A]: Includes patients with Cobalt-chromium conventional partial denture with PRI clasp system design. group [B]:Includes patients with same design as those of Group [A] but the introduction of a resilient Supersoft layer between acrylic artificial teeth and rigid denture base [occlusal reactive partial denture]. Each patient was examined clinically for plaque index, gingival index, tooth mobility denture bearing area, before and after 3 months of denture use for both groups Cytological study for denture bearing area were made before and after 3 months of denture use Histopathological study was done for patients to show any mucosal alteration under dentures. The results obtained showed that although occlusal reactive partial denture showed good retention stability comfort as well as better function. No apparent increase in abutment tooth mobility, less feeling of denture movement during function and non-function tooth contact, were observed, yet, this denture also showed leaching out of some artificial teeth increased plaque and gingival indices and more inflammatory response in denture-bearing. While, on the other hand conventional partial dentures showed least changes in plaque accumulation and gingival and mucosal inflammation. From this study, one can conclude the following:1-Conventional removable partial denture showed less gingival mucosal inflammation and plaque accumulation than occlusal reactive partial denture which showed increased plaque index and gingival, inflammation index 2- Mobility of the abutment teeth decreased in occlusal reactive partial denture than in conventional denture 3-Cytological and histopathological that conventional removable partial denture preserved and stimulated the under supporting oral mucosa than occlusal reactive partial denture.4-Occlusal reactive partial denture recommended if there are maintenance and extensive care

RESUMEN

This study was done to evaluate two techniques for restoring the occlusal vertical dimension in 12 old complete denture patients with reduced vertical dimension. Evaluation included recordings of clinical manifestations [symptoms and signs] and EMG activities of both masseter and temporalis muscles, one and two months after reestablishing the vertical dimension either suddenly [group I] or incrementally [group II]. From the results obtained, it can be concluded that sudden restoration of correct vertical dimension was untolerable to the patients in the first month, while their adaptive response was after two months. An incremental increase in vertical dimension was more acceptable, although EMG activities of masseter and temporalis muscles decreased after one month. EMG activities of muscles increased after two months following restoration of vertical dimension

RESUMEN

This study was designed to evaluate the Pantographic Reproducibility Index [PRI] of patients with myofacial pain dysfunction syndrome [MPD] before and after application of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation [TENS] in comparison with control group. It was conducted on 12 dentulous subjects. Six patients were suffering from MPD syndrome [studied group], while the other six subjects were the control group. For each subject, mandibular movements were recorded graphically using Denar Pantograph to obtain pantographic tracings, which were quantitated by PRI scores. After application of TENS, another pantographic tracings were recorded for both groups

RESUMEN

Seven patients with lower anterior and /or premolar teeth indicated for extraction free from periapical infections were included in this study. They were free from serious medical problems. Postoperative sequelae of seven patients [5 men and 3 women] whose extraction sockets were filled with Kiel bone root substitutes were recorded. Regarding postoperative infection and allergic reaction, no cases had been reported. One root implants were extruded after 7 days, two after 14 days, and one after 1 month. No root extrusion occurred after two months. As regards radiographic follow-up, all implants sites were filled with Kiel bone root implants immediately post- operatively, after 7 and 14 days. After one month, root extrusion was evident in one case. The results obtained that Kiel bone root implants are well tolerated by the human alveolar bone. Implantation of Kiel bone into fresh extraction sockets of m and ibular teeth was effective in minimizing alveolar ridge resorption. Although implantation of Kiel bone is simple, some root implants showed exfoliation

RESUMEN

This study measured the amount of tooth movement in two types of semiprecision attachments, intracoronal attachments [Minicon] and extracoronal attachments [Pin Dalbo] in m and ibular distal extension removable partial dentures in case of application of dislodging forces. The m and ibular canines and premolars were prepared to receive two porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns splinted together to decrease the undesirable horizontal forces applied to the teeth. The amount of teeth movements was recorded with dial gauges [0.01 inch] mounted to dial gauge magnetic holders. By the application of displacing forces, the amount of tooth movement was recorded on the premolars and canines while using the two types of semiprecision attachment. It was concluded that Minicon retained partial dentures gave more retention than Pin Dalbo removable partial dentures. Distal abutments were subjected to higher movements in Pin Dalbo attachment removable partial dentures. Minicon retained partial dentures produced more stresses on mesial abutments

RESUMEN

From the previous results, it can be concluded that: 1 - The most common sites of pressure areas under maxillary complete denture are in the following order: [a] Disto-buccal surface of maxillary tuber osites. [b] Labial surface of alveolar ridge. [c] Rugae area 2 - There was a high corelation between mucosal irritation and pressure areas in disto-buccal and labial surfaces of alveolar ridge

RESUMEN

1 - No significant difference of immunoglobulins level were found between denture and ono denture wearer.2 - Significant increase of immunoglobulins [G and E] level of palatal mucosa with papillary hyperplasia. 3 - In inflammatory papillary hyperplasia, synergistic activity may be present between inflammation and immunity where inflammation may enhance the immune response by maintaining a tissue environment of increased vascularity and permeability

RESUMEN

From this study the following may be concluded: 1 - Reduction of serum immunoglobulins level was observed in patients treated from denture stomatitis when using tissue conditioners with and without antibacterial additives for two weeks. 2 - From immunological point of view, it is preferable to use tissue conditioning lining material incorporating Nystatin powder as an-tifungal agent for treatment of denture stomatitis

RESUMEN

40 edentulous maxillary casts were obtained by standard technique. The area of the basal seat was outlined and estimated using the suggested wax and graph paper method in comparison to two other usable methods [emperical equation and replication methods]. Results were analized and compared. It can be concluded that: 1. Wax and graph paper method is considered as valid method for estimating the maxillary basal seat for complete denture. 2. It can be applied to measure the area of the mandibular basal seat. 3. Evaluating the area of basal seat for cases of extensive partial dentures can be done by this method
