RESUMEN

Fifty blood donors coming to Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore were assessed to ascertain the prevalence of Anti-HCV and HBsAg in general population. Four% of blood donors were found to be positive for Anti-HCV while 8% were positive for HBsAg. None of them showed simultaneous co-infection with Anti-HCV and HBsAg. Highest percentage of donors [33.33%] was positive in the 41-60 years of age while in the 0-20 range of years of life, maximum% [20%] of donors were positive for HBsAg. The prevalence was significantly high in 0-20 years of life for HBsAg as compared with anti-HCV [20% vs 0%] whereas the prevalence of anti-HCV was significantly high in 41-60 years of life as compared with HBsAg [33.33% vs 0%]. The prevalence was not significantly different in 21-40 years of life. We concluded that HbsAg was alarmingly higher though the rising rate of Anti-HCV was still more striking
