UNLABELLED@#AbstractObjective: To analysis the clinical data of patients after single-center hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and construct a predictive model for metabolic syndrome (MS) diagnosis.@*METHODS@#Ninety-three hematology patients who underwent HSCT at the First Hospital of Lanzhou University from July 2015 to September 2022 were selected to collect basic data, transplantation status and postoperative data, the clinical characteristics of patients with and without MS after transplantation were compared and analyzed. Logistic regression model was used to analyze the influence fators of MS after transplantation, and a predictive model of HSCT-MS diagnosis was constructed under the influence of independent influence factors. The model was evaluated using the ceceiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve).@*RESULTS@#Metabolic syndrome occurred in 36 of 93 HSCT patients and did not occur in 57. Compared with non-HSCT-MS group, HSCT-MS had significantly higher fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels before transplantation, shorter course before transplantation, and higher bilirubin levels after transplantation (P<0.05). The statistically significant clinical indicators were subjected to multi-factor logistic regression analysis, and the results showed that pre-transplant high FBG, pre-transplant short disease course and post-transplant high bilirubin were independent influence factors for HSCT-MS. The standard error of predicting the occurrence of HSCT-MS based on the clinical model was 0.048, the area under the curve AUC=0.776, 95% CI :0.683-0.869, the optimal threshold was 0.58 based on the Jorden index at maximum, the sensitivity was 0.694, and the specificity was 0.772, which has certain accuracy.@*CONCLUSION@#A clinical prediction model for HSCT-MS based on logistic regression analysis is constructed through the analysis of clinical data, which has certain clinical value.

RESUMEN

Gut microbiome sequencing studies have great potential to translate microbial analysis outcomes into human health research. Sequencing strategies of 16S amplicon and whole-metagenome shotgun (WMS) are two main methods in microbiome research with respective advantages. However, how sample heterogeneity, sequencers and library preparation protocols affect the sequencing reproducibility of gut microbiome needs further investigation. This study aims to provide a reference for the selection of sequencing technologies by comparing differences in microbial composition from different sampling sites. The results of three widely adopted sequencers showed that the technical repetition correlation (r= 0. 94) was high in WMS method, while the biological repetition correlation (r = 0. 69) was low. Bray-Curtis distance identified that dissimilarity from biological replicates was larger than that of technical replicates (P<0. 001). In addition, dissimilarity and specific taxonomic profiles were observed between 16S and WMS datasets. Our results imply that homogenization is a necessary step before sample DNA extraction. The sequencers contributed less to taxonomic variation than the library preparation protocols. We developed an empirical Bayes approach that " borrowed information" in calculations and analyzed batch effect parameters using standardized data and prior distributions of (non-) parameters, which may improve population comparability between 16S and WMS and provide a basis for further application to fusion analysis of published 16S and microbial datasets.

RESUMEN

Danggui Liuhuang Tang, as one of classical traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions, has been used by major medical experts in clinic since Jin and Yuan dynasties. After review and summarization of relevant literatures on the pharmacological effects and clinical application of Danggui Liuhuang Tang, it was found that Danggui Liuhuang Tang has a wide range of pharmacological activities, and exerts its anti-inflammatory and anti-insulin resistance effects mainly by inhibiting the production of inflammatory factors, such as tumor necrosis factor and interleukin and activating related pathways. In addition, Danggui Liuhuang Tang inhibits the occurrence and development of hepatic fibrosis by attenuating proinflammatory signaling and extracellular matrix accumulation with multiple components, multiple targets, and multiple pathways. Danggui Liuhuang Tang has been widely used in sweat syndromes, with an obvious effect in the treatment of thyroid diseases, diabetes, respiratory tract and other diseases. This paper reviews and summarizes the pharmacological effects and clinical application of Danggui Liuhuang Tang,in an attempt to provide some valuable clues for the subsequent development of Danggui Liuhuang Tang.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the microtensile bond strength of resin composite to glass ceramic, and the effect of surface treatment of resin composite and thermal cycling aging on the microtensile bond strength.@*METHODS@#Rectangular blocks were made with dentin of extracted molars, resin composite or feldspathic glass ceramic respectively. The bonding surfaces of these rectangular blocks were sanded by 600-grit silicon carbide paper before luting. A self-etching resin cement was used as luting agent. The specimens were divided into groups according to the types of substrates of adhesion (dentin/glass ceramic or resin composite/glass ceramic), the way of surface treatments and whether thermal cycling aging ocurred. The dentin blocks were adhered to ceramic blocks as controls (group A1 and A2). The resin composite blocks were adhered to the ceramic blocks as experiment groups. The resin composite surfaces were treated by different ways before luting: no extra surface treatment (group B1 and B2), treated by ethyl methacrylate solution (group C1 and C2) or silane coupling agent (group D1 and D2), coarsened by 360-grit silicon carbide paper (group E1 and E2) or polished by 1 200-grit silicon carbide paper (group F1 and F2). After luting, the microtensile bond strength of the specimens were tested before (group A1-F1) or after (group A2-F2) thermal cycling aging. After microtensile bond strength test, the fracture bonding surfaces of the specimens were observed by a scanning electron microscopy to determine the type of bonding failure. The data were statistically analyzed using one-way analysis of variance.@*RESULTS@#The microtensile bond strength of resin composite to glass ceramic with no extra treatment achieved high bond values before and after thermal cycling [B1 (30.02±3.85) MPa, B2 (26.83±3.14) MPa], which were statistically different from those of the control groups [A1 (20.55±4.51) MPa, A2 (12.94±0.69) MPa, P < 0.05]. The microtensile bond strength between the glass ceramic and resin composite did not increase after different surface treatments of resin composite.@*CONCLUSIONS@#The microtensile bond strength between resin composite and glass ceramic achieved as similar bond strength as that between dentin and glass ceramic and even better. Surface treatment of resin composite via methyl methacrylate solution, silane coupling agent, coarsening, or polishing did not increase the microtensile bond strength effectually.

RESUMEN

Objectives To provide theoretical basis for the clinical rational using of drugs, biochemical characteristics of the liver injuries induced by the atorvastatin, simvastatin and lovastatin were analyzed and compared by replicating the rats model of liver injuries induced by statins, Methods 80 SPF SD rats (8 weeks of age), half male and half female, were divided into four groups randomly: control group, simvastatin group, lovastatin group, atorvastatin group. Human equivalent doses were administered to the latter three groups of rats which were sacrificed to draw blood on the 10 th, 35 th and 55 th day respectively (via the femoral artery) for testing liver function index, including total bilirubin (TBIL), direct bilirubin (DBIL), indirect bilirubin (IBIL), aspartateaminotransferase (AST), alanineaminotransferase (ALT), alkalinephosphatase (ALP). Results (1) The increases in TBIL, DBIL, IBIL for treatment group in comparison with control group had statistical significance (P<0.01).2) At the 55 th day of administration, there was a significant statistical difference between the simvastatin group and the lovastatin group in AST (P<0.05);3) Meanwhile, there was great statistical difference between the atorvastatin group and lovastatin group in ALP (P<0.01). Conclusion The rats in the three experimental groups suffered from minor to moderate liver injuries, most of which being cholestasis type. It is speculated that this kind of liver injuries are closely related to the obstacle of transfering bile.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUNDCoronary artery perforation (CAP) is a rare but severe complication of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The aim of our study was to evaluate the effect and safety of transcatheter embolization by autologous fat particles in the treatment of CAP.

METHODSOnce the CAP was confirmed, a little autologous subcutaneous fatty tissue was obtained from the groin of the patient and then was made into 1 mm × 1 mm fat particles. The perforated vessel was embolized by fat particles via a micro-catheter. There were eight patients undergoing transcatheter embolization by autologous fat particles in the treatment of CAP during PCI in Peking University Third Hospital from February 2009 to June 2014, and the clinical data of these patients were collected and analyzed retrospectively.

RESULTSThe lesion morphology of the patients was classified based on the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Task Force classification, there were one patient with Class B2 lesion and seven patients with Class C lesions (there were five patients with chronic total occlusion lesions). According to the Ellis classification of CAP, there were six patients with Class II perforations and two patients with Class III perforations. The causes of perforation included that seven patients induced by guide wire and one patient by balloon predilation. Three patients had pericardial effusion. All of the eight patients with CAP underwent transcatheter embolization by autologous fat particles. Coronary angiography confirmed that all of them were embolized successfully. There was no severe complication after the procedure. The coronary angiography of one patient at 1 week and another patient at 2 years after the embolization showed that the embolized arteries had recanalized. The median follow-up time was 20.3 months (8.8-50.2 months), the event-free survival rate was 100%.

CONCLUSIONSTranscatheter embolization by autologous fat particles was an effective, safe, cheap, and easy way to treat the perforation of small vessels during PCI.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUNDAs an adipocytokine, resistin has been proposed as a link between inflammation, metabolic disorder and atherosclerosis. The aim of the study is to evaluate whether serum resistin is associated with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) among postmenopausal women with ACS undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

METHODSA total of 106 consecutive postmenopausal women who underwent coronary angiography for evaluation of suspected myocardial ischemia were enrolled. Pre-procedure serum resistin, inflammatory and metabolic biomarkers were measured. All participants were followed for seven years for MACEs, including cardiovascular death, recurrent nonfatal myocardial infarction, and re-PCI.

RESULTSPatients with ACS (n = 69) had significantly higher resistin levels than those without coronary artery disease (CAD) (n = 37) (4.61 (1.79 - 10.80) ng/ml vs. 2.36 (0.85 - 4.15) ng/ml, P = 0.002). Correlation analysis revealed positive correlations between resistin levels and inflammatory and metabolic factors (P < 0.05). A follow-up of a mean of 83.4 months showed that patients with ACS suffered more MACEs than those without (13.0% vs. 2.7%, P = 0.05). Adjusted for cardiovascular risks, inflammatory and metabolic factors, multiple Logistic regression analysis indicated that an elevated resistin level was an independent predictor of ACS onset (OR = 1.139, 95%CI 1.024 - 1.268, P = 0.017) and of MACEs after PCI (OR = 1.099, 95%CI 1.015 - 1.189, P = 0.019). To clarify the association between resistin levels and MACEs, ACS patients were divided into two subgroups on the basis of resistin levels. Compared with the low resistin subgroup (≤ 4.35 ng/ml, n = 32), patients in the high resistin subgroup (> 4.35 ng/ml, n = 37) were more prone to suffer MACEs (21.6% vs. 3.1%, P = 0.015). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed a significantly lower event-free survival rate in ACS patients with high resistin levels than in the low resistin subgroup (78.4% vs. 96.9%, Log rank 5.594, P = 0.018).

CONCLUSIONAn elevated serum resistin level is associated with ACS and cardiovascular events and acts as a predictor in progression of ACS in postmenopausal women.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUNDCoronary artery disease is the leading cause of death in China. Percutaneous coronary intervention is a recent milestone technology for treatment coronary artery disease. However, clinical decision making for patients with intermediate coronary stenosis is still controversial. We designed this study to assess the optimal intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) criteria for predicting functional significance of intermediate coronary lesions.

METHODSWe enrolled 141 patients with 165 intermediate coronary lesions located in vessels with a diameter ≥ 2.50 mm. IVUS of intermediate coronary lesions were performed before intervention. Pressure-derived fractional flow reserve (FFR) was measured at maximal hyperemia induced by adenosine infusion. An FFR < 0.80 was considered as abnormal functional significance.

RESULTSFor the overall 165 lesions, the mean FFR value was 0.84 ± 0.09. The diameter of the stenosis by visual estimation on angiogram was (59.63 ± 11.29)%. Minimum lumen diameter (MLD), minimum lumen area (MLA) and plaque burden (PB) were (2.00 ± 0.36) mm, (3.88 ± 1.34) mm(2), (67.28 ± 9.89)% respectively by IVUS measurements. An FFR < 0.80 was seen in 43 lesions (30.5%). There was a moderate correlation between IVUS parameters and FFR, including MLD (r = 0.372, P < 0.001), MLA (r = 0.442, P < 0.001) and PB (r = -0.172, P < 0.05). MLA was a predictor for FFR as a continuous variable independent of possible confounding variables (P < 0.05), and MLA and PB, were predictors for FFR < 0.80 as binary variables (P < 0.05). The best cutoff value of MLA to predict FFR < 0.80 was < 3.15 mm(2), with a 73.6% diagnostic accuracy; sensitivity 71.4%, specificity 67.0%, AUC = 0.709, and P < 0.001. The cutoff value of the PB to predict FFR < 0.80 was 65.45%; sensitivity 82.6%, specificity 41.2%, AUC = 0.644, and P < 0.01. If both MLA and PB were taken into account, the negative predictive value and the positive predictive value were 88.7% and 64.8% respectively.

CONCLUSIONSAnatomic measurements of intermediate coronary lesions obtained by IVUS showed a moderate correlation to FFR values. IVUS-derived MLA ≥ 3.15 mm(2) may be useful to exclude FFR < 0.80, but poor specificity limits its applicability for physiological assessment of lesions < 3.15 mm(2). MLA was one of many factors affecting coronary flow hemodynamics. Both MLA and PB should be taken into account when determining functional ischemia.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo explore the relationship between quantitative coronary angiography (QCA) parameters and fractional flow reserve (FFR) for identifying ideal angiographic parameters predictive of myocardial ischemia.

METHODSThe study included 121 lesions with QCA and FFR data from 106 patients [mean age: (63 ± 10) years]. The lesions were grouped into FFR > 0.75 group and FFR ≤ 0.75 group. Assessed parameters by QCA included percentage diameter stenosis, minimum luminal diameter (MLD), percentage area stenosis, minimum luminal area (MLA), reference vessel diameter (RVD) and lesion length (LL). Correlation analysis was used to identify the relationship between QCA parameters and FFR value, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to determine parameters predictive of FFR ≤ 0.75.

RESULTSLL was significantly higher [(14.8 ± 7.9) mm vs. (10.7 ± 5.4) mm, P = 0.024] while MLD [(1.47 ± 0.31) mm vs. (1.82 ± 0.51) mm, P = 0.028], RVD [(2.30 ± 0.50) mm vs. (2.81 ± 0.64) mm, P = 0.036], and MLA [(2.30 ± 1.50) mm(2) vs. (3.60 ± 2.30) mm(2), P = 0.038] were significantly lower in FFR ≤ 0.75 group than in FFR > 0.75 group. LL (r = -0.209, P = 0.040) was negatively correlated with FFR, and MLD (r = 0.414, P = 0.040), RVD (r = 0.303, P = 0.000) and MLA (r = 0.315, P = 0.002) were positively correlated with FFR. ROC analysis showed that MLD ≥ 1.6 mm was the best cut-off value to predict FFR > 0.75 with sensitivity 63%, specificity 82%, and positive predictive value 96%.

CONCLUSIONSQCA derived anatomic parameters of intermediate coronary lesions correlate to FFR value in some extent. RESUMEN

OBJECTIVETo explore the short-term impact of ambient PM(10) on daily non-accidental death, cardiovascular and respiratory death of residents in Beijing.

METHODSMortality data of residents in Beijing during 2006 to 2009 were obtained from public health surveillance and information service center of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, contemporaneous data of average daily air concentration of PM(10), SO(2), NO(2) were obtained from Beijing Environment Protection Bureau (year 2005 - 2006) and public website of Beijing environmental protection (year 2007 - 2009), respectively, contemporaneous meteorological data were obtained from china meteorological data sharing service system. Generalized addictive model (GAM) of time serial analysis was applied. In additional to the control of confounding factors such as long-term trend, day of the week effect, meteorological factors, lag effect and the effects of other atmospheric pollutants were also analyzed.

RESULTSDuring year 2006 to 2009, the number of average daily non-accidental death, respiratory disease caused death, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases caused death among Beijing residents were 140.1, 15.0, 65.8, respectively;contemporaneous medians of average daily air concentration of PM(10), SO(2), NO(2) were 123.0, 26.0, 58.0 µg/m(3), respectively;contemporaneous average atmosphere pressure, temperature and relative humidity were 10.1 kPa, 13.5°C and 51.9%, respectively. An exposure-response relationship between exposure to ambient PM(10) and increased daily death number was found as every 10 µg/m(3) increase in daily average concentration of PM(10), there was a 0.1267% (95%CI: 0.0824% - 0.1710%) increase in daily non-accidental death of residents, 0.1365% (95%CI: 0.0010% - 0.2720%) increase in respiratory death and 0.1239% (95%CI: 0.0589% - 0.1889%) increase in cardiovascular death. Ambient PM(10) had greatest influence on daily non-accidental and cardiovascular death of the same day, while its greatest influence on respiratory death occurred 5 days later.

CONCLUSIONThe ambient PM(10) pollution increased daily non-accidental, respiratory disease caused, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases caused deaths among residents in Beijing, and lag effect existed as for the effect of ambient PM(10) pollution on respiratory disease caused death.

RESUMEN

Objective To measure the shear modulus of biological tissues by using Zener model so as to overcome the limitation of Voigt model-based ultrasound vibrometry, and to provide effective approaches of tissue characterization. Methods The mechanical constitutive relation-based shear wave propagation velocity formula was utilized to estimate the shear modulus in terms of the velocities at multiple frequencies via mathematical methods. To obtain shear wave velocities in different objects, experiments were conducted by using different consistencies-based gelatin models and thermally damaged porcine livers as subjects, in which shear waves were induced by ultrasound radio forces. Results Voigt and Zener models were utilized to fit the velocities respectively. The Zener model exhibited higher fitting accuracy than the Voigt model, and the shear modulus could well distinguish gelatin models with different consistencies or porcine livers of different damage degrees. Conclusions The method in this paper provides a potential means of measuring the shear modulus of biological tissues non invasively, which is very promising for tissue characterization and disease diagnosis in medicine.

RESUMEN

Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are large super-gene family. It is traditionally thought to be a kind of electrophilic detoxification substance. However, recent research showed that it has a powerful antioxidant role, but its gene polymorphism is also a risk factor of variety diseases.Researches verified that GSTs are widely found in the epithelial tissue in human and eye tissues, such as iris, ciliary, trabecular meshwork, lens, macula and retina.GSTs play strong preventive and treating roles for many oxidative-induced eye diseases, including primary open-angle glaucoma ( POAG),age-related cataract and age-related macular degeneration ( AMD ).The antioxidative mechanism of GSTs to eye diseases is in study. The current researches about the element concept, distributions in eye tissues, gene polymorphism of GSTs and its relationship with eye oxidative damage were reviewed.
