RESUMEN

Acute diverticulitis of terminal ileum is extremely rare in children. This paper reviews the literature about the incidence, etiology, pathology, clinical features, and complications of this condition. Also it reports a case of acute diverticulitis of the terminal ileum in childhood presented as acute appendicitis and treated successfully by diverticulectomy. In the discussion some of the features of the previous reported cases are compared with the above case. In conclusion, acute diverticulitis of terminal ileum should be thought of, if the appendix is found normal during surgery for a presumed case of acute appendicitis
