RESUMEN

This study comprised 52 cases of FNA biopsy specimens of breast lumps. The smears were stained by H and E and a modified silver one step staining technique for demonstration of AgNORs. A correlation was done between the number, size and distribution of AgNOR and the cytological findings shown by H and E stained FNA specimens. Using t-test AgNOR revealed a significant difference between the total number of AgNORs of 12 benign breast lesions [3.82] and of those 36 malignant cases [11.27]. Silver staining AgNOR results of the 4 suspicious cases were in favor of malignancy

RESUMEN

Formaldehyde-fixed and paraffin embedded tissues of four cases of true-cut needle biopsy of retroperitoneal round cell tumors of children of debatable nature were studied by transmission electron microscopy to evaluate its role in the resolution of the problems. Transmission electron microscopy appeared useful in the different diagnosis of such neoplasms through demonstration of specific features. The fixative used and paraffin-embedding caused little alteration of fine structures that were generally preserved. Hence, direct correlation of light and electron microscopic findings was feasible

RESUMEN

The pattern of Leu M1 distribution was studied in 20 cases of Hodgkin's lymphoma, 5 cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, 5 cases of carcinoma, and 2 cases of infectious mononucleosis. Leu M1 was detected in the cytoplasm of Reed-Sternberg cells of all cases of Hodgkin's lymphoma. In the 5 cases of carcinoma, all the malignant cells showed both nuclear and cytoplasmic Leu M1 staining. In contrast, Leu M1 staining was absent in all cases of non- Hodgkin's lymphoma and infectious mononucleosis
