RESUMEN

Implants have had a significant impact on current prosthodontic treatment of edentulous patients.as a result of the development of osseointegrated dental implants, new treatment options have become available and new prosthetic designs have emerged. Overdentures supported by few implants dramatically improve patient comfort and acceptance as well as oral function compared to conventional denture. Different type of attachment was introduced for implant-supported overdenture that improves quality of life of geriatric populations in both function and esthetic

RESUMEN

The aim of this preliminary study was to obtain information on the dentists' perception concerning amalgam safety and their general attitude towards mercury hygiene practice in selected private dental clinics in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A questionnaire of 28 items was distributed to each dentist in a random sample of 94 dentists working in private clinics in Riyadh City, and collected by the investigator to ensure accuracy of responses. The results showed that reaction to the mercury debate and safety continues to be controversial. As anticipated, the recent debate on the local media has influenced dentist's opinion regarding this issue. Thirty-seven percent of the respondents asserted amalgam risk towards the patient health, while 40% of them did not agree that amalgam is hazardous to the dental personnel. Dentists in the private practice were satisfactorily adopting universal barrier techniques. However, some of the standard mercury hygiene recommendations were markedly deficient

RESUMEN

The objective of this study was to assess the clinical productivity of dental interns at King Saud University's College of Dentistry [KSU-CD] in Riyadh [KSA] by setting a numerical target to drive clinical activity, monitor performance, and establish future trends. The clinical records of seventy interns of the Interns' Training Program at KSU-CD, were analyzed in this study over a six-month period. Great variations in productivity exist among dental interns. Female interns received more patients and spent less treatment time with them. Interns performed tooth extractions, pulpotomies, and restorations most frequently, whereas prosthodontics, periodontics and preventive dentistry were the least practiced. It can be concluded that performance and productivity of dental interns need to be revised in general, as they did not completely fulfill the listed objectives of interns' training program. Thus, corrective measures should be taken into consideration to improve the clinical performance, and treatment outcomes, based on preventive approaches

RESUMEN

Success is a relative term in social life but it is objectively defined in scientific arena. There are various objective measures to assess the success of clinical procedures, clinical outcomes and long-term maintenance of treatment items. Those measures not only help in the quality care but also improve the quality of social and functional life of our patient. Various factors are responsible for implant failure. These factors may influence failure directly or indirectly. Improper patient selection, accumulation of bacterial plaque because of poor oral hygiene, traumatic occlusion, debris retention resulting from improper prosthetic restoration, and bone preparation without the sufficient cooling, low torque, slow-speed hand pieces, have been the factors contributing to the failure of dental implants. The aim of this article is to highlight the reasons of dental implants failure, their classification, prevention and management. Finally, a dental implants failure checklist is adopted to guide the practitioner in defining the cause of implants failure. It is hoped that implant practitioners will be benefited from the article and optimize the quality of dental implants, service, and care of their patients
